Someone invoke the Story Curse!. I love EvaJacks and always will but this book fell all KINDS of flat… *SPOILER REVIEW* Stephanie set herself up perfectly for INFINITE ENDINGS and she really went and picked the most boring one 😭 So the book was good BUT it PALES in comparison to The Ballad of Never After. Evangeline has always had to WORK to get anything done or to get any info and someone is always tricking her, AND tricking us. And I didn’t feel tricked, like there were no big discoveries or realizations. So it just seemed almost too easy… Especially because we don’t even know HOW they broke the curse? They were just like “no” and she didn’t die? Huh? ALSO there was SO much opportunity to make Aurora the “big bad” and really make her a key player with big betrayals that Stephanie just didn’t capitalize on. Not to mention ALL the theories that Evangeline wasn’t entirely human or is descended from a magical line or something. It makes sense! Bc why does her blood open stuff?? We never got that answer than that “she’s the key” but like WHY HER. It’s random? I feel like I had big expectations on twists and turns based on the last 2 books and I just didn’t get what I was hoping for in that regard. Like she coulda made it SO much longer and more complex! I also still have SO MANY questions that are unanswered. I want to know more about Jacks’ past, Evangeline’s heritage, and why the Valors played no part in the story like at all? Why did none of them tell her? Like… I’m confused. Also, SG created one HUGE plot hole with the whole Aurora casting the kissing curse… in OUABH, Lala tells Eva that the driving force of a Fate is to fulfill their “thing” like hers is to fall in love but never get married as the Unwed Bride. The same is true for Jacks, as a FATE, he has the compulsion to kiss and kill girls looking for his true love. Lala REALLY drives this point home to Eva for her safety. But then we learn that that kiss curse is SEPARATE from the Fate Compulsion thing??? HUH?! Then what even makes him the Prince of Hearts?! I also wish there were more Jacks POVs bc he was BARELY there and Apollo got real old real fast

In love. I’ve been waiting for this book for months. And it was perfect. I laughed, and cried and cried some more. Stephanie you are a brilliant author. And this series will forever hold a special place in my heart.

So sad to say .. fell flat. Oh my goodness how I LOVE these characters. The first two books blew me away. But this just made me sad and disappointed after MONTHS of anticipation. Spoiler alerts As I read I kept hoping it was going to get better and instead it kept getting messier and less impactful. Forever will be one of my favorite series. I still liked the end but everything felt rushed and less planned. Two different random tree story lines? Jacks just punching aurora to get his heart? The bracelet not actually keeping Evangeline from harm? After all that Apollo did to keep Evangeline his wife he just decides to kill her so he can be immortal? Nothing made sense. Didn’t live up to the standard of the others

Honest. I’m happy there was a happy ending, but this book was a disappointment. Unsatisfying. Something went wrong here. Perhaps her attention was on a different story. I’m shocked that this was the final version.

Ugh. This series was sooo good! Such a unique story line, with unique characters & a unique plot. No spice but you almost didn’t care because the story was so good. Seriously. This author is a gem and so is her mind. Love you girl

Jaw dropping amazing. I took me a while to get into this series but I’m so glad I did. It’s absolutely amazing! The feeling of being close to the end but still having no clue of the ending it’s all just so perfect it’s perfect love story in my opinion 10/10 definitely recommend

I love the characters but I needed more. I wanted more Jacks, I wanted a bigger finale, more fireworks. It ended a little flat. Am I glad I read it? Yes do I wish I had gotten one more chapter with a little more of what came next… yes.

the second one was better but…. i liked the first and second one better. the kiss between eva and jacks felt a little rushed. i feel like we should have gotten an extra 50 pages but it was stii good.

Perfection in Words!. An amazing ending to this series and I don’t say this lightly as I am usually the one hoping a series goes to book 20. The same suspense is found in all three book and I would venture to say the level of intensity and adventure though was magnified and very well deserving of the ‘Magnificent North’. There is never a dull moment, repetitive moment, or missed moment. From page one to the epilogue you are transfixed and holding your breath, all the while trying to solve the mysteries and truly hoping for the best. DON’T MISS OUT!!

True Love. HEARTBREAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL “💗”

Prose and characters A+, arc and plot could have been stronger. I really wanted to love this book but after months of waiting and counting down to its release it honestly fell a bit flat for me. Overall, a well executed albeit bland conclusion to the trilogy. In my opinion this third book had a challenge living up to the amazing standards set by the first and second novels. Stephanie's writing is beautiful and the characters were very well developed so no problems there. That said however, it is hard not to feel underwhelmed by the lack of emotional depth I was expecting in this book following the heart-wrenching climax from the last book. POTENTIAL SPOILER WARNING It would have been nice to have more of Jacks' perspective (I was honestly thinking most of this book would be from his POV and was a bit shocked that it wasn’t). The small degree of confrontation between all the characters in the story (emphasis on Jacks and Apollo) also seems like a missed opportunity (especially considering the synopsis/description that hyped up the two villains fighting). Last nit pick, there were more loose ends than ideal…particularly chafing: the apples.

Many unanswered questions…. My most anticipated book of the year had the same impact as a dull punch. Many questions were left unanswered, such as where was Marisol and Luc? And the most important one being—how could Jacks get side-charactered in his own story?

More Dark. Apollo’s POV chapters tarnished this last book. But I was so ready for the series to be over already. (I’ve read all over the the past 3 years as they were released) I thought SG would include more of Castor as a potential third love interest for Eva. Seemed like Aurora’s story line came from nowhere. There should have been more tied into Eva’s past from Valenda and some of the originals from the first two books. Side note: all of these Trees literally were involved with this book and it got confusing. I hope SG can write another trilogy following the Valors storyline maybe as a prequel to all of her books. Still, I love reading these books and the writing is extraordinary! God Bless you SG

Letdown. Like many other have said, it fell flat. SG set the series up perfectly with the other two books. I expected so much more out of this one. The way she tied things together in this one felt sloppy and rushed. There were infinite possibilities and so many things she should’ve explained. The things she did explain just felt like she threw it together on a whim and many things were left unanswered altogether. It was a great series (I devoured it in two days) but I almost wish I had never started it.

Idk about this one. Caraval is one of my favorite world building books. I was so excited when the first of this series came out bc we finally got a glimpse into the Fates but this was altogether predictable and unimagined. Barely ANY jacks and since we all knew what had happened the entire first half of the book was just drawn out. Maybe the curse of the North got its hand on this too. Disappointed. It’s not terrible but I feel it’s lackluster and I don’t actually know any more about jacks than I already did.
