Something like Hate by Piper Rayne Book Summary

I love him.
I loathe him.

It’s like plucking daisy petals in my head, but he’ll never know.

When Miles Cavanaugh, the best safety in the league, was traded to the Chicago Grizzlies football team last year, I could finally breathe. Temptation was miles away.

How naïve to think it would end there because when the opportunity to write for a national magazine based in Chicago lands in my lap months later, I can’t turn it down. Sure, it’s a big city, but the sexual energy feels like a beacon between us the minute my plane lands.

To make matters worse, I end up having to take over the job of reporting exclusively on the Chicago Grizzlies. Which means traveling with the team, interviewing players, and pretty much having an all-access pass to their lives during the season.

Miles and I put up a great front, quickly hating on one another, but we both know it’s a lie. We also know the rules are simple. For me, don’t sleep with the subject of your articles. For him, don’t sleep with the journalist who can make or break your career.

I thought straight-laced Miles Cavanaugh followed all the rules… oh how wrong I was.

Banter and Tension. These two hate each other and now they have no choice but to work together. As Miles joined the Chicago Grizzlies, he left his old life behind and tried to start all over again. On the other hand, Bryce had to move to Chicago, reporting for a hockey team. Something happened and now Sportsverse wants her to work with the Grizzlies instead. Inevitably, the archnemeses will meet frequently now. Their hatred for each other is nothing more than a way to bury their feelings. This enemies to lovers sports romance is the first book in the series. Filled with banter and sexual tension between the two main characters. This book will hook you in from the first chapter. The story follows the main characters as they struggle to overcome their differences and fall in love. It is a heartwarming journey that will tug at your heartstrings and make you root for them to end up together. These two say they hate each other, but it’s not that simple. Their tension is scorching. The tension between these two has captivated me for a long time, so I couldn’t wait to read this book and see how it unfolds. And it didn’t disappoint. They fell hard. Their constant banter was one of my favorite things about them. Miles is sarcastic and smart, which matches Bryce’s personality perfectly. He’s a perfectionist and wants to play every game perfectly. He couldn’t help but be hard on himself when Bryce pointed out every mistake he made. Leashing out and blaming her article for all the negativity he’s getting. But having to spend time together, their hatred turns into something else. After all, there’s a fine line between love and hate. This book won’t just hook you into reading Miles and Bryce’s story. It’ll leave you wishing the other books in the Chicago Grizzlies series came out faster.

Great Audio. I really enjoyed this one! I’m such a huge grab of the enemies to lovers trope and this one had a plot twist I didn’t see coming! The audio was great! Looking forward to the rest of this series.

Where there are sparks there is fire. Something Like Hate is an enemies to lovers romcom by Piper Rayne. This book is about Miles Cavanaugh, a professional football player who had traded from the San Francisco Kingsmen to the Chicago Grizzlies during th previous season. Miles was a repeating character from the Kinsmen trilogy and older brother of Twyla from Over My Brother’s Dead Body, Chase Andrews. Bryce, who also appeared in the Kingsmen series, was the sports journalist who had reported on the Kingsmen to a local San Francisco newspaper. She and Miles had both been part of the same friend group there, but had loathed each other. Bryce also moved to Chicago when she got the opportunity to write for a national sports magazine and the two found themselves in each others’ orbit again. It was really great to read this book, since it was obvious there was a story waiting for Miles and Bryce. It was sexy, steamy, filled with tension and sparks, funny and sweet, and an all around perfect Piper Rayne story. It kicked off a new sports romance series which shows great promise. I recommend that readers of contemporary, sports, and romcom books grab this one today. It doesn’t disappoint. I am voluntarily submitting this honest review after reading an advanced complementary copy of this book thanks to Valentine PR.

Enjoyed it!. Something Like Hate is the first book in the new Chicago Grizzlies series. This enemies to lovers, sports romance had plenty of steam and drama. Miles and Bryce have always had an intense connection, despite their bickering. Their chemistry can be felt throughout the story. This book was very entertaining and I enjoyed getting glimpses of the other characters from previous series. Tim Paige and Stephanie Kay did a great job portraying these characters.

Finally getting Miles and Bryce’s story. I’m so excited that Bryce and Miles finally are getting their story told. Having met them in the Kingman series, I thought for sure they’d find their HEA in California, not the Windy City. But it honestly doesn’t matter where it happened because it’s about dang time! Miles is that antithesis of the sorts “player”. He’s focused on his career and more than a little too hard on himself, but he’s ready for a relationship and he wants Bryce. Bryce is a complete ball buster at times, and it conflicted me occasionally. While she’s looking at this move at her big break, she’s annoyed that she can’t escape Miles, because she “hates” him, you know! The chemical reaction from these two is crazy. There really is a fine line between love and hate. We’re introduced to Miles teammates Damon and Cooper, as well as Bryce’s college besties, Ellery and Connor. Yup, same guy! Another overlapping friend group…and Bryce isn’t thrilled. But I loved them and can’t wait to read their stories as well. Great start to this fun new series…I dare say I might even like it better than the Kingsmen. Just don’t tell the, okay!?

New series. This is the first book in the new series about the Chicago Grizzlies football team and it’s off to a great start. Miles and Bryce had a contentious relationship when Miles was with the Kingsmen. Bryce hardly ever had a good thing to write about his playing. Now that he's been traded to Chicago, he thinks he's rid of Bryce. Little does he know that Bryce is now working for a sports magazine based into Chicago. He isn't thrilled when he finds that out. Bryce is unexpectedly now reporting on the Grizzlies and even has to travel with the team. On the away trip, Bryce's room isn't available and Miles offers to share his room. This puts them in close contact and the real feelings come out. They try to keep their relationship a secret but it comes out. Bryce is taken off reporting on the Grizzlies. What will happen to their relationship now? Miles is a wonderful guy and treats Bryce really nice. Will that continue? I really like this new series and can't wait for the next book.

Fun enemies to lovers sports romance. This is the first book in the new Chicago Grizzlies football series. We met Miles Cavanaugh and Bryce Burns in the San Francisco Kingsmen series. Throughout that series they were completely antagonistic towards each other, but you were never sure why. Well, Miles has been traded to the Grizzlies, and Bryce has a new job at Sportsverse, a sports magazine that just happens to be in Chicago as well. So, will we find out why they hate each other? And when Bryce is temporarily embedded with Grizzlies, will that hatred change? Miles is a really great guy, and I loved getting to know his teammates Damon and. Cooper (who will be in the next two books). Bryce was a little harder to like. Her dislike of Miles seemed over the top. Also, I am not a big fan of the inappropriate relationship that will jeopardize your career trope, so I did have a bit of a problem with that aspect of the story. If you enjoy a football/enemies to lovers romance, this is a really fun read. I received an arc of this book from the author for my honest review.

Expectations obliterated!. I’ve been waiting for Miles to get his HEA with Bryce & this series opener for the a Chicago Grizzlies did NOT disappoint. I knew from the second we met Miles & Bryce that their disdain for each other had sooooo much more to be discovered. Their underlying animosity was fueled by a tension that was so palpable, they didn’t stand a chance of staying away from each other. Miles Cavanaugh is the guy that all of them can rely on. He’s the protective brother, the loyal teammate, & the reliable friend. He’s just, overall, a good man. He’s the all-American boy next door. He’s also an easy target for the media if he messes up, because he’s a bit of a people pleaser sometimes too. Bryce Burns is the girl who is committed to giving the real story. And she’s not afraid to step on some toes to get it. She’s the girl who’s happy & good at her job, but she’s got dreams of bigger and better things. When Bryce gets the chance to write for Sportsverse Magazine, she jumps on this dream job opportunity. Only problem, their headquarters happens to be based in Chicago, where her arch nemesis from the San Francisco Kingsmen, Miles, just got traded. But she’s not following him! Besides, she’ll be the covering the minor league hockey team in Chicago, she won’t even have to see Miles. Miles & Bryce tend to find themselves in the same friend circle often. As they’re constantly thrown together in social situations, they finally succumb to their attraction. But due to unforeseen circumstances, their relationship now how a bit of a forbidden factor at play. There’s a bit of a twist that threw me for a loop, but kept me wanting so much more. This enemies to lovers, one night stand, sneaking around, forbidden love had me swooning, laughing, and gasping. The banter between Bryce & Miles was hilarious & so very fueled with bangxiety. And when they came together…WOW! They weren’t just a spark, they were an explosion of epic proportions. I absolutely devoured this book in mere hours. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I was hooked from the very start & once the banter started, you couldn’t pull me away! And the setup for the rest of the series has me on the edge of my seat.

Absolutely Amazing and Addictive Read. This is book one in The Chicago Grizzlies series and it is Miles and Bryce’s story and omg it is definitely a must read. Miles and Bryce have a past and history that ended with them not really liking each other now and if you have been waiting to not only find out why or what happened between them well the wait is finally over because this book this story is a reveal and tell and o’ boy I am totally in love with this couple and not disappointed by there story at all. The attraction, connection and chemistry Miles and Bryce is so hot, intense and strong that sparks fly and sizzle all around them and the snark, banter and conversations between them will have you laughing so much because they are absolutely hilarious but they both have there own problems to overcome which will bring out the good and bad side in them when ever they are near each other and that is a lot because not only have they got the same group of friends but also Bryce ends up travelling and interviewing which means that she will have to interact with the whole team as part of her job which will bring them closer together making them realise that they are not only perfect for each other but good together and really bringing in each other and the highlight of there story was when Miles and Bryce eventually give in to how they feel and unable to stay away from each other in the end after all there ups and downs and difficult situations and decisions that they both had to make. Wow I absolutely love this book and it is only the first book in this series and it is already amazing and it was great getting to know all the players as well as all the favourite ones of mine making a appearance. I definitely recommend you read this book and others by Piper Rayne who are amazing authors and writers and their books are definitely worth reading and I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing series.

Great book!. This is my first book by this author and it was a great start to the series! I loved Miles and Bryce and can't wait to read more by this author! The audio narrators did a great job with this one too 😊

Entertaining! Highly recommend it!. Honestly the thing I love most about the love/hate trope, is the sizzling tension between the characters. Something Like Hate’s storyline is quite entertaining and I just loved both Miles and Bryce. Their banter made me giggle. I flipping loved this book so much. The drama, the friendships, the emotions from the characters made this a story I couldn’t put down. I have invested myself into the characters and cannot wait for more. Im not going to say anything to spoil this book but seriously this series is amazing. Each book just gets better and better. I have been waiting for Miles story and it did not disappoint at all I highly recommend you put this book high on your tbr list!

Loved it. I was so excited when I learned that Piper Rayne were releasing a new series and if Something Like Hate is anything to go by, then the Chicago Grizzlies series is off to a flying start.   Having got a glimpse of team members in On The Defense, I could not wait to read/listen to this book. I know I am in for a witty, beautifully written, often emotional story and one that will leave me with a smile on my face and often, laughing out loud.   We finally have Miles Cavanaugh story and from previous books I knew it was going to be a good one and I was not disappointed. Having been traded to Chicago, Miles is a little out of his element as all his friends and his life are back in San Francisco. Now he has to make a life for himself in Chicago; adding to his frustration is the woman he has a love/hate relationship Bryce has transferred to Chicago for a new job.
The banter was witty, the chemistry scorching, the camaraderie and interference by the other players who all have an opinion just added to my enjoyment of the story. I also loved how Twyla could see beneath the grumpy exterior that Chase shows the world to the caring and loving man he truly was.

The narration by Tim Paige and Sephanie Kay did justice to this entertaining story and brought the characters to life for me. Their voices are pleasant and easy to listen to and their portrayal of the characters engaging.

All the feels. After meeting the team in On The Defense i was very excited for Something Like Hate ( Chicago Grizzlies #1) and i wasn’t disappointed. This book was everything I have come to expect from this very talented author duo and so much more. If this book is anything to go by they will certainly have another hit series on their hands. Tim Paige and Sephanie Kay did a fantastic job with the narration bringing the characters and their journey to life. They were spot on with the banter, the camaraderie and the story flowed. Miles Cavanaugh’s story is the one I have been waiting for and I was so happy that after he was traded to Chicago we got to see what the future has in store for him. Miles is unsettled, all his friends are back in San Francisco and making a new life with a new team is something he never thought he would be doing. His situation is made worse when he finds out that Bryce the woman he has love/hate relationship has also ended up in Chicago…….. I loved everything about this book, I smiled, I swooned, I laughed, I giggled and I held my breath. This is a story that’s full of love, passion, witty banter and lots of interference from the rest of the team. Can’t wait to read/listen to more stories from the Chicago Grizzlies.

A great read! The chemistry between Miles and Bryce is off the charts!. I loved this book! I couldn’t put it down. The chemistry between Miles and Bryce is scorching hot and off the charts! Piper and Rayne, thank you for giving Miles and Bryce their own book. This book explores the back story to both characters and what makes them unique and tick. It was so good to see Miles and Bryce reunite with their friends from the Kingsmen: Shayna, Lee, Brady, Violet, Theo, Chase and Twyla. It was also great to see Damon back and introducing readers to Ellery and Cooper! I am so looking forward to reading the other Chicago Grizzlies books. I highly recommend this book to other readers!
