A must for every library. The Wilhelm/Baynes translation is the gold standard for every serious student in pursuit of understanding the I Ching. There are no shortcuts to obtaining a firm grasp of the material but there are tools to aid one in the task and this tool is indispensable. The core of the I Ching or Zhouyi consists of less than four hundred Chinese characters. This translation contains over six hundred pages to explain them. This book is actually three books in one. The first book contains a translation of the text. The second is comprised of commentaries added through the centuries. The third ties them all together in a masterful way. Of all the translations I've examined or own this is the one I return to time and time again.
