Spare Change. My second time reading this heart warming story.

Spare Change - Fantastic. I downloaded this book because it was on the inexpensive or free book link on iBooks. It was free, and on disability, free is great. I wasn't expecting too much. Boy, was I in for a very pleasant surprise. This book is fantastic. Characters well developed, great plot with twists and turns. Ethan Allen and Olivia both had me crying at times as well as laughing. Jack Mahoney made me wish there were really more detectives out there like him... When I know for a fact there are far to few. I highly recommend this book and even though the next one costs more than I would normally pay, I will buy it. What can I say? This book got me hooked on the author, Bette Lee Crosby. Try it, it's free right now. You won't be disappointed.

This story is lovely!. I loved reading it.

Sooooo good!. I knew from page one this author knows what she's doing. It's a captivating book from the very start, and I forced myself to pace my reading - much as I wanted to read it straight through, I didn't want to finish too quickly. I had something to look forward to, you see, as long as I could make it last. The characters in the book are wonderful. The book is wonderful. You won't regret cracking the cover, as it were. I loved it!

Character-driven. I liked the characters in this book. Both Olivia and Ethan Allen were real enough to be, well, real! As the parent of a boy around that age, I think the author nailed this character. The story was heartbreaking at times, but definitely warmed my heart. I give it 4 stars and 1 box of tissues.

Twists and turns!. Wow. This was my first book to read by Bette Lee Crosby and I know for a fact I'll be reading more. This was such a heart-warming book. Her characters came to life- even minor characters- and I felt like I really knew them. The story had twists and turns all the way to the very last page. Great book!

Spare Change. This book the first in the Wyattsville Series is a must read for any fan of Bette Lee Crosby's wonderful books! It drew you into the characters from the very beginning. I loved the character of Olivia, a strong willed woman that will pull you in until the very end. If you have not read this book I would highly recommend you do...

Such a good story. Spare Change....The Beginning I have become a huge Bette Lee Crosby fan while reading the Memory House Series...I have begun a new series, Wyattsville, and it begins with Spare Change....it introduces you to Olivia, and how she went against the beliefs of her family of how a woman should live her life. Olivia Westerly had plenty of suitors, became engaged, and broke it off. Children were a definite no, and so was marriage, until she met Charles Doyle. Superstitious by nature, she was anxious about the #11, and opals bring bad luck. She marries Charlie has a great honeymoon, then he gives her an opal, and life changes as she expected it to be....enter an 11 year old orphan, foul mouthed and ill mannered saying he is her Grandson...her life changes yet again, but along the way many life lessons are both learned by each of them, and Ethan Allen learns what it is like to be wanted and loved...fast forward to Ethan Allen as an adult with a family, and you can't wait to read the second book in this series...😍

Better than expected. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The characters were lovable; neurotic and humorous and real. The story has a little bit of everything - love affairs, murder, hi-jinx. Definitely worth the read.

Spare Change. A pleasant, easy read. It almost felt like having an elderly neighbor telling a story about his past.

Spare Change. I chose this book as a break from my preferred genre and found this to be a very satisfying read. Crosby gives us an interesting story with diverse, authentic characters who personify the extremes of good and evil. The protagonist, an eleven-year-old boy, is worthy of both empathy and admiration. I think most readers will enjoy the book.

Truly Mesmerizing. I couldn't put this book down. It was very well written. Very believable in the era for which it was written. The characters fascinated me. I will read this book again. Loved it.

Good read. It was a very good read. The characters were described so well that you felt you knew them. The story line was really good and in the end very uplifting.

Charming. A lovely story, beautifully told. It was clear to see where the story was taking you but it was so well written, and the characters so well drawn, that it was a pleasure to follow.

Superb.. I surprised myself with how much I enjoyed this book. It really is very good and exciting in a gentle kind of way. Hard to describe really but highly recommended. Not 5 stars because nothing's perfect but wonderful stuff nonetheless.

Spare Change. Not normally my style of book but I really enjoyed reading it. I loved the style of focussing on the inner thoughts of the characters. It was very effective - we normally only read what the character says publicly. It is the first book I have read of this author but will read more

Great storytelling!. I don't normally read regular fiction, but this book had plenty to interest me. A bit of crime, adventure, thriller and romance. I enjoyed it, and look forward to Bette's next book.
