Richard Cole, directeur de tournée de Led Zeppelin pendant douze ans – toute la carrière du groupe – a tout vu et tout vécu avec Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones et John Bonham. Des débuts modestes dans les petits clubs anglais jusqu’à la consécration quelques mois plus tard aux États-Unis dans des stades combles. Led Zeppelin a révolutionné le monde de la musique par ses chiffres de ventes astronomiques, ses gains totalement inédits et un rapport très agressif avec les promoteurs et leur maison de disques. Évidemment, la médaille a un revers, le fameux triptyque sexe, drogue et rock’n’roll. Les excès, la fatigue et les tragédies personnelles ont fini par laisser des traces. L’intérêt anecdotique et discret de Jimmy Page pour les sciences occultes a lui aussi fini par avoir des répercussions sur le groupe en déclenchant une rumeur de malédiction. Au bout du tunnel, c’est finalement John Bonham qui paiera le prix fort de ce mode de vie décadent et extrême. L’héritage du groupe est immense, « Stairway to Heaven », « Rock and Roll » et « Black Dog », pour ne citer que celles-là, sont autant de chansons qui ont marqué leur époque et qui continuent à fasciner aujourd’hui encore.
