Gatefather by Orson Scott Card Book Summary
In Gatefather, the third installment in the Mither Mages series, New York Times bestselling author Orson Scott Card continues his fantastic tale of the Mages of Westil who live in exile on Earth.
Danny North is the first Gate Mage to be born on Earth in nearly 2000 years, or at least the first to survive to claim his power. Families of Westil in exile on Earth have had a treaty that required the death of any suspected Gate Mage. The wars between the Families had been terrible, until at last they realized it was their own survival in question. But a Gate Mage, one who could build a Great Gate back to Westil, would give his own Family a terrible advantage over all the others, and reignite the wars. So they all had to die. And if the Families didn't kill them, the Gate Thief would-that mysterious Mage who destroyed every Great Gate, and the Gate Mage, before it could be opened between Earth and Westil.
But Danny survived. And Danny battled the Gate Thief, and won.
What he didn't know at the time was that the Gate Thief had a very good reason for closing the Great Gates-and Danny has now fallen into the power of that great enemy of both Earth and Westil.

Lazy Card, just lazy. First two books were great.. Such a huge disappointment to have the series end like this. It's as if Card didn't care anymore and just ripped it out to meet a deadline and collect his royalties. I didn't put the first two books down. Took me a month to read this one just because it became a chore to read it.
Cards religious factor.. Though Card tends to write books with a religious factor, this one book was the worst. Mc became the messiah. He backed himself into this ending in the previous book. The plot was mostly predictable. I also didn't like what the main character became personally.
It was entertaining. The mithermage series isn't OSC's best work, imho, but it wasn't bad either. I enjoyed the ride for what it was and am overall pleased that I took the time to read through it. Thank you OSC. Please continue writing and publishing so that I may continue to selfishly consume your content.
Garbage. What the heck happened. The 1st 2 books were great. I read half of this one and then wiped my behind with the rest. Too bad it was on my iPad.
A lecture within a series. Kind of disappointed with the third book, previous two were worth reading. This one seemed like it was chapters of lectures of how we as people are influenced into how we act and a way of thinking of how we became to be, then a quick ending to close the series out. Barely any progression of storyline chapter after chapter. Just had to read it to finish out the series.
Definetly not up to standard. I usually enjoy Card's books but found this one to be a real struggle to finish not to mention enjoy. Not much plot and way too much time trying to explain his metaphysical all concepts.
Back on track.. A good finish for a great series. Unlike the pathfinder finale this book does not repeat the same info 500 times. I was worried when I read the other reviews and I braced myself for it. But it never came. Then I had finished. 5 stars. Card gets really imaginative without changing or breaking other sections of the book which is what happened in pathfinder.
Great read. Loved the book...wasn't totally satisfied with how it ended so suddenly.
