Wow. This book is not for the faint of heart! I really liked it though. So many twists and turns and the writing was so vivid. Upper echelon thriller for sure!

Not for the faint of heart. Captivating and well written, but definitely a dark book. I have no regrets about reading it, but there were points where I knew I might put it down and never pick it back up if it got any darker.

It’s really not that gory…. This is a decent novel. Lots of twists; some very predictable, some that really throw you off. As far as the explicit content, it did not bother me at all. Maybe I’m extremely desensitized, but I didn’t read anything that really merited the reviews of how disturbing the descriptions are. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most stomach churning gore, I’d say it’s about a 4. Some cons are, the pacing in the first 150-200 pages is like trudging thru mud and took some effort to stay interested, but then it starts unfolding fast after that. And it’s not the most original storyline. Otherwise, it’s fine.

Suddenly graphic, but doesn’t get any worse. Really well written book! Tread carefully, because there’s graphic descriptions of extreme sexual violence towards women in this book. The first instance comes out of no where, but if you can handle the first time it’s described, it really doesn’t get worse as the book goes on. I really enjoyed this book and will be reading more from this author!

Gripping and gory. Really enjoyed this read. Truly for true crime fanatics and folks with thick skins because the violence is heavy handed and extremely detailed. Great twists!

Gripping page turner. Very intense, a real page turner that may cause you to lose some sleep! It is disturbing, almost sick, definitely not for the faint of heart or anyone that may be triggered by sexual violence. I honestly don’t like reading that stuff but I had to find out what happened so I kept reading it. It is a good one that will stick with you.

I heard it as audiobook!. This was so captivating to listen too, as audio is 20 hours really more like 17 hours bc the last 2 hours are another book included is this book(prequel). It was a thriller in the sense that u see one character really have character wake up.

Incredible Thriller But Also Incredible Violence. This book was an absolute page turner. I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen next. Really well written and just an awesome thriller. BUT, if you’re at all uneasy with violence against women, this is not a book for you. The depictions the author laid out were vivid, graphic and gut-wrenching. Very disturbing-you’ll need a strong stomachs to not let some of the subject matter affect you.

Spoilers!. Very good book although I would change one thing. The murder in the book dies and in my head it would have been better had Claire outsmarted him, tortured him and instead of killing him he gets arrested and spends his life in jail. I wanted him to comment on how what she did (the fire/gun/surprised him with the burner phone location) was unexpected and how she always kept him guessing and that’s why she was different and he really did love her. Overall a very good book with some twists and things I couldn’t guess. I wish there was a bit of an unspoken romance between Claire and the FBI agent also. I wanted him to come off as a bit of a safe place or savior and his position was sort of unclear until the end. I wanted her to still not trust him but for him to be trustworthy to the reader.

Thought provoking.. It was gripping toward the middle to the ending! God Bless those that have lost children way too soon.

Oh Athens. It was so weird reading a book about my hometown but I Could not stop reading this book. It was the perfect storyline. I love this author now.

Twistyyyy. I found this book long and confusing in the beginning. Once through the back story and introduction of characters the story starts to shape and keeps you wanting to know more.

Quite possibly the scariest book I’ve ever read. Do not read this book if you can’t handle a horrifying psycho thriller that details rape, torture, and murder. It is suspenseful and a page turner, but only to find yourself left with an eerie, uneasy feeling. I was able to finish the book, but I probably could have gone through life without reading it.

Loved it!. Kept me intrigued the entire time, loved every word!

Good book but. Good book but it was way too long. I spent the last half of the book just wanting it to end already.

Too graphic. Suspenseful, kept me guessing, but too graphic and too psychotic of a plot to recommend to others.

Perfectly dark. Equally dark and heart wrenching. There were times where I could feel Claire's pain, confusion, and anger. I couldn't put this book down.

Perfectly flawed. A face paced and exciting read. Graphic, yes. Heart breaking, yes. But also an excellent representation of true character and how merciless people can really be. SPOILER: My only issue was Paul’s “fake death”, it’s unbelievability cheapened the otherwise great storyline.

Suspenseful!!!. Great read! I could not put it down. The story kept me wanting to read just one more chapter and then just one more chapter. I was disturbed by the violence halfway through the book, and wanted to stop reading, but I wanted to find out what would happen in the end for retribution, so I kept reading. I loved the mystery and suspense of the story. The characters were believable. It was my first read by Karin Slaughter. Well done. Great job!

Excellent read!. Gripping read, very dark and graphic (you’ve been warned) I completely devoured this book!

Too much. It was really engaging but, honestly, I wish I hadn’t read it. It was too graphic and disturbing. I would read other books by the author - I liked the style, didn’t love the subject...

Fanfriggentastic. Finally, a novel that ripped me out of my reality. This story sucked me into a world of horror, so real I could not only picture it in my mind but feel through my skin and taste in my mouth. Once I had it figured out I was violently jolted sideways into another direction. Emotionally drained I am left contemplating life, lost life, and trying to figure out why I'm bawling. Wow!!!
