Sign Off (Caught Dead in Wyoming mystery series, Book 1) by Patricia McLinn Book Summary

Divorce a husband, disrupt a career …grapple with a murder.

TV journalist Elizabeth “E.M.” Danniher will tell you she committed two sins — she didn’t stay young, and she made an enemy of a powerful news executive — her ex. She used to break national news. Now her top story as the “Helping Out!” reporter at dinky KWMT-TV in Sherman, Wyoming is getting a defective toaster repaired.

Tough, funny and determined, Elizabeth wrestles with isolation, keeping a professional edge, and an evolving self-image. Is Wyoming — the land of cattle, cowboys, tumbleweeds, and fewer than six people per square mile — her new home or a road to permanent obscurity?

Soon she’s in a battle of wills with ex-football player turned journalist Mike Paycik, who sees her as a handy rung on his career ladder. And there’s the matter of a deputy sheriff—missing or murdered? Elizabeth finds herself investigating at the insistence of a girl who’s set on proving her father’s innocence. Not that enigmatic rancher Thomas Burrell makes investigating easy.

But Elizabeth won’t fade to black without a fight, no matter how final some might want to make her Sign Off.

Turned out to be great!. I wasn’t impressed when I first started Sign Off. There were so many characters who were all interrelated in some way. I opted to give it a chance. It all became very interesting, including the characters. The descriptions of a spider web or a rocky road were all like seeing it. The story line was good, after the confusing start. But the end was the best!

Sign Off(Caugh Dead In Wyoming,Book 1). This was a twisting ,turning story but full of surprises and good characters and well put together. I Highly recommend .

Sign Off. Best mystery I've read in awhile. Lately I haven't finished mysteries because I figured it out half way & the writing style was blah &I was tired of all the mistakes in grammar & spelling. This was witty & the authors style, especially, in the beginning, painted pictures in my imagination.

Sign off. Great fun read just when you think you have the mystery solved the story takes you down another path. A very enjoyable read

Great story!. Patricia molded her characters with flair and charm! Excellent read!

Wyoming. I’m an 84 year old woman who loves mysteries and I live in Wyoming and I love the book can’t wait to read more thank you another thing Wyoming has been great to me

Sign off. Well written, great plot. I enjoyed this book very much.

Sign Off (Caught Dead in Wyoming, Book 1). Oh my, what a web we weave! Great story, characters and I loved her humor. Don’t miss this one. It is a keeper for sure.

Sign Off. When you can’t stop reading because you want to know what happens next, then you know it’s a good story. Plus the added benefit of a mysterious dog.

Sign off (caught in the dead). I liked the momentum and the red herrings. I’d recommend as a good read.

Sign off. Carefully crafted characters wonderfully written clues thru the reading were fun to evaluate .I was truly thrilled with the skillful creative writing, First class .As a rural gal her descriptions of country living and thoughts were creatively accurate and beautifully crafted . I am excited to read the next book I’m hooked !

Sign Off. Engaging characters, realistic conversations and a fast pace,I felt like I was right there in Wyoming following E.M. Danniher and Mike Paycik as they broke the rules to solve a murder (or two!) And the best...when I finished the read all too quickly, I found there are more in the series to read! Perfect for social isolation!

Sign Off. I throughly enjoyed this book, the characters were intriguing and fun to get to know. I like her style and ability to keep me interested and thinking I figured out who the killer was at least twice! Looking forward to reading to next book in this series.

Sign Off. Good story, enough twists to keep you guessing and wanting to keep reading. I had trouble putting this down during the last few chapters. I want more!

Caught Dead in Wyoming. Great book, it was very enjoyable and I like the way the Author give you the story This is my first time to read from Her and I like very much her style Thank you Paquita Alvarez

Caught Dead In Wyoming. A well written, page turning who-done-it with just enough humor to keep you off balance. Fun and entertaining!

Thoroughly enjoyed. It was a very entertaining book. Had some laughs as well as a good story. Will continue on with the series.

Sign Off (Caught Dead In Wyoming Book 1). Great story! I enjoyed reading this book about reporters, politicians and law enforcement officers. A good mix of characters made this a good mystery with a great ending!

Loved this book!. This is the first book by this author, I have read. I loved it. I found it hard to put down. After all my years reading, I can’t believe I missed her books. This book has everything. A good mystery with humor, some twists, and just the right amount of detail. Looks like I have a lot more reading ahead to be able to catch up with this series.

Great story. A little hard to keep the characters straight at first. However, it was a wonderful, intriguing story with many twists and turns. Keeps you reading and wondering till the end. Loved it!

Really very enjoyable. The writing style suits me very well! It was the most enjoyable part of reading this story. Solid characters, not too easily figured out and many surprises but the style of the author, to me, was the most enjoyable part. Great read

Caught Dead in Wyoming Series. As a crime buff/armchair detective/police procedural/forensics type reader, who enjoys really getting inside a story being told, I’m happy to have found this series; the plot, scenery, characters and atmosphere are detailed enough and entertaining with light humour, plus interesting to hold my attention. Really well done and enjoyable.

Hard for me to get into. Several times I almost gave up on this book. I just couldn’t get into it until about the last third of it. I had to read and reread sentences. There were too many characters, and it was hard to keep them straight, but then it became more interesting. I don't know what changed. Maybe it was that the author finally gave us a body, and with that it seemed to be better written. I stuck it out, and I'm glad I did, but I probably won't read the next in the series.

Sign Off. Very well written with good charafters. Only one part was unbelievable, the three men in the office with the reporter and camera. Otherwise it was a great book. Thanks g

Twists and turns. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Lots of misdirection. Enough action to keep the story moving along. Delightful.

Twisty in all the right ways. Really enjoyed reading! Twists and turns kept me glued to my screen. Already bought the next in the series!

I couldn’t put it down ! It really kept me guessing …. I really enjoyed this book. My first by this author, and it will not be the last! If you think you know whodunnit then you will probably be as surprised as I was at the conclusion of this book. It was nice, for a change, to read a novel like this one and not already have the end all figured out when there are at least 3 chapters left. Very well done!!

Loved This Book. Very enjoyable read. Had to read the rest before writing this review. Funny, sad, characters you either love or hate and murder without the gore. Loved it.

Sign off. A must read, fast paced and exciting!!!!

Good read. Loved the story and characters!

Sign off. A great writer. She. Frames and words her sentences beautifully. Her way of writing is refreshing. It is almost a clean read making it unique in a way that doesn’t follow the crowd yet grabs your attention and never lets you down. You’re continually trying to solve the mystery and never expecting the next twist. Thank you for the Great Read!!!!

Sign Off. I really enjoyed reading this. I've been in Wyoming and could appreciate the descriptive drives through the mountainous roads and drop offs. I also enjoyed the twists and turns this took with all the possibilities before finally giving us the solution.

Convoluted!. Loved it!

Fooled!. I had 2 books to read & I thought, I’ve never heard of this author, but I love modern Westerns! So here I am 2 days later writing a review. As I just said, 2 days later, I’m hurrying this review so I can start the next book in this series. Not an easy read because of the twists & turns of the investigation, but also the numerous characters you have to keep track of in each chapter. I was fooled right down to the end! No I won’t say, “Who Done It!!” That’s for you to figure out!

Sign off. Kept guessing till the end.

Sign Off. Wonderful, fun, unexpected mystery! And the ending was... sweet!

Sign Off. Overall the book was good. The first of the book was fairly boring. I almost, but did not, stopped reading because of how boring the book was. However, around the half way mark the book took off. It was a pleasure to read and left me for more.

Sign Off. Excellent. Couldn't put it down.

Finally! A book that isn’t sex, violence or cursing-filled. This author is coming along in the John Grisham style of just telling the story without the unnecessary embellishments of sex, violence or cursing. Though there were a few times I couldn’t remember who the characters were, overall the book was better than a cut above most that get 5 stars.

Great Book.Humor and Murder. Fantastic!. This book is lots of fun and extremely well-written. As I read books by various authors, I discover that there are some that I really enjoy, including Connelly, Sanderson, and now McLinn.

Sign Off. Great read enjoyed characters. Thanks k.

Loved everything about this book.. I have read some really bad iBooks lately, so it was a nice surprise to read one I really liked. Great characters, interesting murder mystery I didn’t figure out until near the end, which made me stay up late at night to read yet one more chapter. I will definitely read more of this series or others by this author!

Sign Off. Sign Off (Caught Dead in Wy, Book 1) was an entertaining read. There was plenty of suspense and humor making it hard to put down. The characters were believable and interesting. I have enjoyed Wyoming novels about horses, game wardens, and sheriffs. Now a small town TV station is bringing a new perspective to crime solving. I can tell the author has some knowledge about Wyoming including the beautiful sunrises and sunsets and of course the wind. I look forward to many more hours of entertaining reading of Wyoming style catching the bad guys or gals.

Sign Off. Had me fooled until the last pages! Good characters, a storyline that kept moving, and me wondering which guy will she end up with? I will continue with the series!

Sign In. usually when i read a mystery i can see the guilty person a long way from the end but this time i was surprised . but in the end it made sense who was the real murderer was! excellent read. i could not stop till the end .

Is this set in the past?. What was confusing was in addition to so many M names , girlfriends, etc., was the lack of modern technology. No computers? No cell phones?

Sign Off. Great mystery!!!!! Never did figure it out!!!!

Added a new author to my favorites!. She kept the audience baffled right to the end in this twisting, turning ride to the truth. I will surely be seeking more of her work in the near future. And you should, too!

Caught dead in Wyoming. A smart witty page turner, I love the characters and will be reading the next I the series

Great read!. From the first page, I had instant appreciation for her writing style. The story was interesting and there were great details and descriptions to paint the characters. I can’t wait to read more of her books!

Should be at least ten stars. Loved this book it is a must read

Sign Off. Fast moving and interesting story line. Good solid characters.

Fun to read. Fast moving in the main, lots of humour balances sadness, yet takes time to develope characters as it should in the first of a series.

Sign Off. Well written with an extremely well thought out plot. A throughly enjoyable read.

Kept me guessing.. Enjoyed this book. I thought I had worked out who did it early in the book and there were so many different clues and directions that it kept me guessing right till the end. The characters were well developed and loved the way they interacted. Recommend it and look forward to more adventure of Elizabeth and crew

Sign Off. It was the witty style that got me in, and I was hooked. Couldn't put the book down.

Twists and turns. Great story, great characters. Twists and turns right up to the end. Witty and well paced. Will be reading her again.

Sign Off. Great read didn't stop til finished will read this Author again

Sign Off. Fun book. Middle aged news anchor shipped to rural station fights to prove herself.

Great Story. Well written , good pace and very good story. A page turner.

Sign off. I love the story, E. M. Danni and her friends. Interesting investigating journalism…

Page turner. It took a bit to get into this book. I stuck with it, & enjoyed the story. It was full of suspense, Elizabeth didn’t back away from the danger.

Interesting read. While it took me a little while to get used to the way she wrote, about a quarter way through I couldn't let the book be. Just HAD to find out who done it!!

Small town intrigue. Frightening what people in power think they can get away with. A bit of a slow start on this one but it built into a great story. Couldn’t put it down for the last half at all. Thought I’d had it all figured out and it appeared I was right but no, I wasn’t. I love when it’s hard to guess the ending. Well worth reading. I will be downloading the next instalment today.

A great story. I enjoyed this book a lot.

Sign Off. Murder, a intrigue, betrayal and small town gossip trees. Elizabeth left a news anchor job for a helping hand spot run on a local Wyoming station. Miscellaneous facts, dead bodies and mysterious leather cases lead her down an exciting path.

Sign off. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story as told by a journalist involved more than just a murder mystery, a good read and not too information on gory details of the murder.
