The Stranger Book Reviews
The Stranger by Albert Camus Book Summary
With the intrigue of a psychological thriller, The Stranger—Camus's masterpiece—gives us the story of an ordinary man unwittingly drawn into a senseless murder on an Algerian beach. With an Introduction by Peter Dunwoodie; translated by Matthew Ward.
Behind the subterfuge, Camus explores what he termed "the nakedness of man faced with the absurd" and describes the condition of reckless alienation and spiritual exhaustion that characterized so much of twentieth-century life.
“The Stranger is a strikingly modern text and Matthew Ward’s translation will enable readers to appreciate why Camus’s stoical anti-hero and devious narrator remains one of the key expressions of a postwar Western malaise, and one of the cleverest exponents of a literature of ambiguity.” —from the Introduction by Peter Dunwoodie
First published in 1946; now in translation by Matthew Ward.

Excellent read. Strongly recommend it
V good. I like book a lot
Absolutely pointless.. This book created a hatred for Camus literature that I did not intend to have. There was no theme or interesting prose.
Meaningless of Human Life. Very good!!! It is a must read!! The main character is unique and will never be seen anywhere else except for here.
Great book. I loved this book. I had to read it for school and by the cover i thought it was going to be a boring book but i was totally wrong. Once i started I couldn't stop.
Fantastic novel!. People had been telling me to read "the stranger" for quite some time and I finally decided to read it today. It was a jarring, moving read that will draw you in and before you know it, it's over. I feel as if I will have to re-read it to fully grasp the tone and voice of the book, but it I will enjoy it again all the same!
Quick and insightful. It is a quick and easy read (I finished it in a few hours) that I couldn’t put down. It’s a compelling story with insightful themes in the later chapters.
:p. enjoyed my read!!
A strange familiarity. I don’t particularly know how to address this book without saying opinions on the philosophy presented. When I was in Middle School I had an extreme existential crisis leading to reclusive behavior. I was afraid of death in its entirety. My thoughts turned to when my clock would run out. However in this idea of the fear of being forgotten in death, I realized that in a happy way you are free. The book is good. The philosophy is more nihilistic than it should be. He should have been talked to by a therapist but his end he himself understood was inevitable. But in a strange way it was a better death than most who die meaninglessly. It’s a good book which brings me back to some places. Think it could have used more detail in places though and is right to be criticized as all work should be. Even the greatest.
Surprisingly Funny. Excellent read and very unique. Would highly recommend if you’ve got a couple hours to kill
Wow. This is great read! I am glad that this literary work was part of my class reading, otherwise I would have never been exposed to the point of view of Camus. I am sure we can all relate to parts of Meursault, and acknowledge the indifference the world shares with us.
The Stranger. Somewhat haunting and yet it kept my interest to the end …
Deep. The level that this novel made me think is otherworldly. This novel reaches depths that, simply put, are almost imperceptible without some form of interpretation. This is truly a well written masterpiece!!
The Stranger. This book I would say is unique. One of those books you have to read. I would recommend this book!! :)
The Stranger. Brilliant! I'm going to read it again immediately. WHA
Its been a long time.... A book that would dangle in your mind for long time...
