Deception by Stacy Claflin Book Summary

A blind date, a gorgeous vampire, and a deadly assassin.

Just a typical Friday night.

Yesterday, my biggest problems were fighting with my sister and getting into my dream college. Today, I'm dealing with destructive new powers and a raging thirst for blood—and both are getting me into serious trouble.

I never believed in the supernatural, but now I can't escape it. I've tried everything to distract myself from the bundle of weird events that is ruining my life, including a blind date with a drop-dead gorgeous guy. Turns out he's a vampire and knows more about my past than I do, including the assassin who has marked me for death.

I thought becoming a blood-sucking child of the night would make me immortal… turns out it just made me a target. With a trained killer after me, I might actually have to trust the know-it-all vampire to help me unlock my powers, before one of us ends up permanently dead.

Hard to get into. I wasn’t able to get past the first chapter. The sentences are short and choppy, the characters don’t have descriptions or personality. The dialog between characters feels like a middle schooler wrote it. I really really really wanted to love this book but I just can’t. The cover is beautiful though.

My thoughts. Okay so I’m my opinion, I would not recommend this to a reader. Coming from a younger author that is just starting I do feel like I know a couple things to help with this book. First of all I wished the book had a theme or an undeniable drive for Alexis and the rest of the characters. I mean there was a beginning, middle, and end, but Alexis had no personal problem with really anything. She had no growth to her as a character which is especially important to have in a story like this because SPOILER: she turns into a creature of a sort that requires needed development. I won’t get into everything but not my personal favorite

This book is absolutely amazing!. I stayed on the edge of my seat the whole time while reading the book, I just started reading it 2 days ago and already finished, that's how good this book is! The ending has me wondering do many things of what could happen. I CAN'T WAIT TO READ MORE!

Good plot. The plot was enough for me to want to finish the book, unfortunately I found myself editing the authors wording (not grammar). I felt like I was reading a rough draft, or a high school English assignment. The relationships weren’t convincing, and words like “very” were so overused I found myself rereading sentences edited with synonyms, or rewriting entire paragraphs.

Loved it😍😍😍. So good! You won't be able to put it down! I loved it!!!!

Don't tell.... Obviously the best thing to do in any new situation is to remain uninformed. I'm getting tired of authors who use this gimmick to build their plot, add suspense, and pad out their stories way beyond what is reasonable. Mysteries are one thing, but this is simply the characters finding one excuse after another not to tell each other necessary data, or not demanding it from the other. Nine more books of this.. oh joy

Nope. Made it to chapter 2. Thank God it was free!

Nope. What color was her house? Was her room small? What does she look like? When the light bulbs burst do the cringe at all? When she sneaks from her house, why and how? There’s nothing relatable in this character. The book is deadpan. Each paragraph is no more than 3 sentences long.

Definitely worth reading!. This book was amazing!

Eh. First of, I hated the spacing of the Ebook, and there were several pages that were blank as I was in mid-read. And I skipped through several pages that seemed unnecessary to read. I didn’t agree with how the story led up to the “big event”, and there were just a lot of loose ends that weren’t tied.

Deception. Before I read this book I had read all the reviews to find most of them positive. So you can imagine the disappoint I felt when I started to read. I couldn't even get through the first chapter without feeling bored. Many of the lines include mistakes or spelling/grammar errors. Which is not entirely a big deal, but the part I was most annoyed about was the wording. Instead of being descriptive or expressive, the author uses common and boring phrases such as "I screamed. I stood next to my parents. I rolled my eyes." Instead of this, the author could have used something more descriptive such as "A piercing scream escaped my throat, eyes wide, I began to retreat backwards." See the description is less blunt and more emotional. Not boring and repetitive. Glad I could offer some constructive criticism.

Deception. It was a good book.

Deception. This is the first book that I read by Stacy Claflin, and I am absolutely glad that I did read it. This book was absolutely amazing. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book. I honestly cannot wait to read the next books. I read the book in a day...it was that good!

Deception. It’s wonderful to read a great book that has romance & is good and clean—n sex I loved the book and I loved the characters

Transformed series. Felt that the storyline was good, but the writing was horrible. Felt zero emotions between characters, writing was so literal and rote, very repetitive. Read second book, same. Won't be finishing series.

Amazing. What an amazing series. Just finished book 12 and it was wonderful. The whole series was good. Never has an author taken me on such a long emotional journey as this one. Please read this book and the entire series. It's truly magical.

Riveting. Totally different spin on vampires. Great characters.

The book is fantastic and very romantic 😍. I'm really excited and very much in love with everything 😍❤️😍.

More original then I expected. So this book is one of this authors early books, to my understanding, but it definitely did not seem like it. The characters were relatable, without reaching too much, the fantasy elements were on point, without being too cliche, and the romance had enough plot twists to make the story believable, and unpredictable. Definitely would recommend this book to fans of YA paranormal romance, and I myself will be checking out other books by this author.

Perfect 👌💜. Best book I have read. It's worth reading

Distracting in a bad way. This book has a very interesting, if fairly predictable, plot line. The ideas and plot were very interesting and unique outside of that predictability, which is what kept me reading. However, the editing of this story is just terrible. I definitely won't be reading any further books in this series as it's just too hard to really get immersed in the unique story, no matter how badly I wanted to. This book had many spelling and grammatical errors throughout the book, but what was most painful and distracting was the fact that nothing was really fleshed out in the story itself. The story jumped from one major scene to another without much detail, let alone any real transition, which left me distracted while wondering how and why the story had suddenly gotten to where it was. It had little to no detail, and was mostly structured with short sentences that made everything seem abrupt and blunt. I wanted more information, more fluidity, and both were severely lacking on top of the constant mistakes.

Cheesy AF. Not well written. Tons of errors. Incredibly cheesy. You'll see what I mean. I'm not impressed. Especially since it's supposedly written by a best selling author.

LOVED. I absolutely loved this book! I recently read all the books from her curse of the moon series & fell in love with the writings of Stacy Claflin ❤️ she has officially became one of my favorite authors. My ONLY complaint would be that there are some grammar mistakes in the book but it doesn’t take away from the story at all & you can easily tell what was meant! I can not wait to start the next one!!

Might be good for younger readera. I honestly couldn’t finish. I tried because it seemed like an interesting plot but The writing seemed dumbed down and I actually found a bunch of errors. If you enjoy a girl just going blindly along with things just happening to her you might like this book.

Best book ever!. I have really love this series! I am on the 5th book and I will never be able to describe how addicted I am to these books 😂. I spent countless lunch periods explaining every detail of these to my friends and finally go them to read them. I would defiantly recommend this book!

Ok. Was expecting more. This was written in passive voice. Lacked active voice. Felt like I was reading the diary of a teenage girl retelling events not actively living it. For the hype, I was disappointed. It's just ok.

um-. ok at first i was like eh this books isn’t my favorite....i couldn’t believe he just disappeared. at that point i was giving up on this book- but i’m actually happy i didn’t i just- they ending and i’m just 😌 🤯

Deception!!. I absolutely loved this book!!!! Just to warn you, there is a cliffhanger at the end, but it is totally worth the read. This is probably the best book I’ve ever read, and it’s free!!! BTW, the other books aren’t. 😢🥺😔

Love it. She has done it! I love it and I only read this one but I'm ready to buy the whole series like now. It is a long series but I like the fact that it's not only three or four books and that's it. I want to grow with the characters. Great book

Not enjoyable. Recommend: No -Apologies to the Author, but the sentences were very difficult to get enraptured with the story. It seemed like it was a rough draft that hadn’t been edited.

Great Story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This was actually the second time I've read it. I'll probably read it again later.

Deception. A must read for paranormal romance readers. I'm falling in love with this series too. Stacy writes so well that you feel like you know the characters in a personal way.

Sigh. I wish I’d seen more of the negative reviews before downloading but the positive ones along with “best selling author” impressed me, but what I’ve read of this book has not. Mostly dialogue with little description or feeling. Very poor transition from one scene to the next. The plot is slow to develop, which isn’t always a bad thing, but when there is no character development either then there is nothing to entice the reader to keep going.

pretty good. i really enjoyed the plot and everything, but.....idk if it’s just me but i really don’t like love triangles. they just frustrate me! like why can’t there just be ONE guy that you like/love. other than that, it was a very well written story.

Terrible. Poorly written. Interesting idea and concept but the quality is bad.

Deception. I love how you brought everything in. I did see some moss wording but it did not diminish how I loved the story.

Started well... The start of the book was really engaging but the story and writing really slips towards the end and felt rushed and amateur

1st Book. This is the first book I have read from this author. I enjoyed it but did not find it un-put-a-downable. I will not be buying any more of the series. A good start but no hook for me!

If you want simple - this is it. The general plot of this book is good but I'd find it much more enjoyable if the author knew how to vary their writing. Conversations between the characters are boring and flat, it's just a load of 'he said' 'she said' 'he replied'. When reading it I always feel like the author is trying to rush each chapter. It's okay if you want to read a book because you're REALLY bored, but if you want to actually feel pulled into the story, then maybe read a different book.

Deception. A great read. Recommended

Great reading. Fast paced coming of age vampire novel

Disappointing. Poorly written and zero plot line. Don’t waste your time

Not your average vampire tale. Enjoyed the whole series

DIFFERENT. Definitely a different type of supernatural coming of age story. I enjoyed it.

Poorly written. Trying to get past my initial irritation, hoping that with time the story would get better, I was summarily disappointed. The storyline is too much like many others, a hidden and confused teenager/immortal princess with a prophecy and birthmark declaring her the only one that can save her kingdom that she never even knew about... Blah blah blah - hot guy - blah blah blah - destiny - blah blah blah - magic powers - blah blah blah - political plot to kill her - blah blah blah - teenage angst

Poorly Written. Aside from the many spelling and grammatical errors, the storyline was hurried and at times hard to follow. It seems like a rushed novel. It could have been a 5-star had it been given the chance.

A story to get lost in. Another good fantasy series.

Horrible writing. Couldn't even make it through the first chapter.

Can't get past the terrible writing. After reading just a few sentences there were so many grammatical errors that I had to stop.

Deception. One of the books ive liked so far on this app

Too bad you can't rate using negative stars!!. I'm an avid reader of fantasy novels with a particular love of vampire novels. That being said I can see why this ebook is free!! Horrible writing combined with an idiotic main character that's too busy being a remorseless victim to ever develop into anything someone could admire or empathize with on any level. I'm sorry to say it was terrible!

AMAZING. I loved the series so much♥️
