Guild Wars: Ghosts of Ascalon by Matt Forbeck Book Summary

250 years ago, Ascalon burned . . .

Desperate to defend his land from advancing hordes of bestial charr, King Adelbern summoned the all-powerful Foefire to repel the invaders. But magic can be a double-edged sword—the Foefire burned both charr and human alike. While the charr corpses smoldered, the slain Ascalonians arose again, transformed by their king’s rage into ghostly protectors and charged with guarding the realm . . . forever. The once mighty kingdom became a haunted shadow of its former glory.

Centuries later, the descendants of Ascalon, exiled to the nation of Kryta, are besieged on all sides. To save humankind, Queen Jennah seeks to negotiate a treaty with the hated charr. But one obstacle remains. The charr legions won’t sign the truce until their most prized possession, the Claw of the Khan-Ur,is returned from the ruins of fallen Ascalon.

Now a mismatched band of adventurers, each plagued by ghosts of their own, sets forth into a haunted, war-torn land to retrieve the Claw. Without the artifact, there is no hope for peace between human and charr—but the undead king who rules Ascalon won’t give it up easily, and not everyone wants peace!

Great!. I don't really understand why there's 2 copies, 1 that's already released and another that needs 2 be pre ordered, but the book is great! Don't hesitate 2 purchase it.

Awesome, but sadly a bit too short.. The lore in the book is quite interesting. If you don't know about the fall of ascalon then this is a great start. Towards the end, though, the story seemed to feel a bit rushed as if the author was trying to appeal to an audience with a dying attention span. Some of the characters made choices that seemed either pointless, or just not thought out. Overall, though, I loved it. It's great Guild Wars lore with an excellent twist at the end. You find yourself attached to the party and the story will bring you to some sad realizations.

Awesome!!. I really loved this book! Personally had no real background of the Guild Wars story besides playing the Beta for GW2, and absolutely enjoyed reading this book. Awesome characters, descriptions, and story. You don't need any real knowledge of Guild Wars to jump right in. Before you know it, you're done.. And itching for more! Highly recommended. Added bonus: it's also dirt cheap!

Great. Lots of lore with great characters. Also an easy read and very enjoyable.

Read this!!!!. If you are into adventure stories or light romance this is def. A book you need to read. If you played GuildWars Prophecies and GuildWars Eye of the North, you really should read this book, it does give a lot of information that those 2 campaigns left untied. Kudos to the author for being able to produce a terrific novel that was absolutely true to the game!! I hope that more books will soon follow along by this author regarding GuildWars!!

Amazing Story. The book literally keeps you running with the characters . Speaking of characters , they actively have you have an attitude towards them . It took me for a ride that I couldn't predict at any time. Amazing .

Amazing book. I've read it so many times, and now that guild wars is out, I keep going back a noticing new things each time that relate back to the game. It's a wonderful work of art and so much better than the WoW books!

Loved it!. If you love the game then you will love the book. I am absolutely in love with both. Coming from reading only romance novels to this - I would have to say was a big jump. Once I got started I couldn't stop.

All night reader. This book would keep me up reading all night. I only played GW1 for a month and this book was a good read for getting ready for GW2. I know what is going on in the game. I get to play with the characters I read about and see the places described in the book. It is awesome.

Great story. Amazing story, really gets you pumped for guild wars 2

Amazing!. One of those hard to put down books! I look forward to the game even more!

Beyond Fantastic Book!! Must Have For All Guild Wars Players!!. This book is easilly worth 8$. Far underpriced in my opinion, anyways, anyone who reads this book is sure to enjoy it. If you play(ed) Guild Ward (Especially Eye Of The North), this book will definatally be worth your time and money. There are pleanty of referances to the game its self, all of which paint an extremely nice menal picture in your mind. If your reading this review and are still not sure about buying the book, trust me, you will love it. -Andrew; Sayde Aviviani

It's about time. I've been playing the game for about three and a half years. Now thanks to the books the game has come to life for me if you play or are thinking about playing.get the books it's all I can say

Great read. As someone who never played the game and knew nothing of it I worried that this book would not be very entertaining. I bought it anyway just to pick up some lore before GW2 came out. I found that not only did it give a great bit of lore but that the characters and storyline provided an interesting and entertaining story. Reaching the last page only a day after purchase made me realize how good the book was. Never played the game? Not a problem, the book stands on its own merit.

Guild Wars: Ghost of Ascalon. Good book, easy to read, and gets you right into the story. Last book I read was Halo Ghost of Onyx, and that book really never took off! This book holds your attention right until the end. I would have rated it higher, but it took so darn long to get to Ascalon!!! I guess because they were walking... Lol Still, good read an nice surprise twist at the end!

Tops my expectations. At first I thought this would just be a book taking the reader through future Tyria, and giving us a glimpse of what awaits us in Guildwars 2. It had that, but it was so much more! It's not your average game made into book novel. It has a deep story and is true to all the established lore. The characters are multidimensional and every Guildwars 2 race gets it's moment in the spotlight. If you read closely you can even pick up hints about what will be in the actual game, being if they implement that. (I'm talking about them mentioning Mesmers yet they haven't been released as a GW2 profession yet). Even if your new to guild wars they go into depth about past events that a veteran player knows about, yet it also doesn't bore us to death. It's quite a page turner if your a fan of the game. My only complaints are that I got confused on what's happening, but that's just because I was rereading too fast! See you in game!

Great prelude to guild wars 2. As a long time Guild Wars player, I found this book lighthearted, but a great introduction to the world of Guild Wars 2. The characters are interesting, the quests fun, and they all take place is in a part of ascalon that you haven't experienced, as yet. The book drove me into playing Guild Wars once again, and I'm genuinely excited, now, about the sequel.Although I still wonder about the asura and whether they could have eliminated the king...

Loved it!. I started off by downloading a sample of this book, and before I knew it I was finished with that and dying for more. I ended up reading the whole thing in just a few days. Even better i got to the last page without even realizing it was the last page. I'm already hoping for another book. This book was a page turner from page one with great action, great character development and a fantastic story. It's great for guild wars fans and gives you a lot of great history on the game, as well as a bit of insight to the upcoming gw2. There is a timeline and map included that are helpful for understanding a bit more about the guild wars world. Also lets you in on some skills and professions coming up in gw 2, as well as give you a bit more insight to the races we already know, as well as the new race. If you love guild wars lore, you will love this book.

Great Read. Takes you on a journey through Tyria while keeping true to game features and real lore. Gives you some further perspective behind some of the best written lore in Guild Wars. (searing) My only complaint is how abruptly it ended.

Ghosts of Ascalon. Too start, I haven't read a book since high school. I've just never enjoyed them. However, Guild Wars has been a part of my life for over 6.5 years. Dying for more information about Guild Wars 2, I was cornered into buying this book. My main concern was that it would be boring and have very few close connections with in game characters. It blew away my doubt in the first couple of chapters. Anyways my point is, if you're looking for something to pump you up even more for the upcoming Guild Wars 2, buy this. ( I've never been interested in game lore, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book.)

Awesome. Great read! I love the guild wars universe and this book helps create it further. Five stars!
