Può la giustizia essere cieca come la fortuna e come la fortuna abbattersi a caso sugli esseri umani? Ah Q non è altro che un semplice operaio, perseguitato da sfortune e disgrazie e tuttavia sempre pronto ad accettare la propria sorte e a cercare il lato positivo in ogni cosa. Persino quando inspiegabilmente (ed erroneamente) si ritrova condannato a morte. Certo della superiore giustizia anche in questa circostanza, Ah Q rifiuta di protestare.
Il romanzo di Lu Xun, scritto nel 1921, vuol essere una metafora della transizione che portò la Cina da Impero a Repubblica: la Storia appare come una potente macchina che tutto e tutti travolge.
Lu Xun
(1881-1936) è stato considerato padre della lingua cinese moderna. Appartenente a una famiglia feudale in decadenza, conobbe le difficoltà della Cina rurale, quindi visse in Giappone e studiò medicina a Sendai per quasi due anni, preferendo tuttavia seguire la vocazione letteraria piuttosto che l’attività medica. Pubblicò raccolte di racconti e altri componimenti in prosa e rivisitazioni di antiche leggende cinesi. Famoso il suo Diario di un pazzo.
