Overkill by Ted Bell Book Summary

The latest action-packed thriller from New York Times bestselling author Ted Bell pits counterspy Alex Hawke against Russian president Vladimir Putin in a daring, exhilarating mission to rescue Hawke’s kidnapped son—and prevent a Soviet invasion of Switzerland

On a ski vacation in the Swiss Alps high above St. Moritz, Alex Hawke and his young son, Alexei, are thrust into danger when the tram carrying them to the top of the mountain bursts into flame, separating the two. Before he can reach Alexei, the boy is snatched from the burning cable car by unknown assailants in a helicopter.

Meanwhile, high above the skies of France, Vladimir Putin is aboard his presidential jet after escaping a bloodless coup in the Kremlin. When two flight attendants collapse and slip into unconsciousness, the Russian leader realizes the danger isn’t over. Killing the pilots, he grabs a parachute, steps out of the plane . . . and disappears.

Hawke has led his share of dangerous assignments, but none with stakes this high. To save his son, he summons his trusted colleagues, Chief Inspector of Scotland Yard Ambrose Congreve, former U.S. Navy SEAL Stokley Jones, Jr., and recruits a crack Hostage Rescue Team—a group of elite soldiers of fortune known as "Thunder & Lighting." Before they can devise a rescue plan, Hawke must figure out who took his boy—and why. An operative who has fought antagonists around the globe, Hawke has made many enemies; one in particular may hold the key to finding Alexei before it’s too late.

But an unexpected threat complicates their mission. Making his way to "Falcon’s Lair," the former Nazi complex created for Hitler, Putin is amassing an impressive armory that he intends to use for his triumphant return to Moscow.

Only one man can smash the Russian president’s plan for domination—a master counterspy who will cross every line to save his son . . . and maybe save the world itself in the bargain.

Overkill. This book is an insult to all of us who have followed this series. It could not possibly have been written by Ted Bell. It is absolutely horrible!

Not Bell’s best work. Perhaps it was the long period between books. I’m not sure but the writing style of this book doesn’t seem like Ted Bell at times. All Hawks novels are a bit over the top and I’m Ok with that because they are always exciting and require some suspension of disbelief. But this book is way way over the top with lots of inconsistencies and rather weird writing at times. I am a huge fan of Bell’s Hawks books, but this one is just Good to Ok, not great.

If you’re already a reader of Alex it’s good. I found the book to be entertaining. Some of the other Hawke books were more entertaining than others but if you’re a fan you’ll need to read this one as well. It’s over-the-top and fairly unbelievable at times but so what. It’s good entertainment. I would sure like Ted to crank out a quicker follow up to this book sooner than later.

Perfect. As usual Ted Bell has written a story you cannot put down. I love his writing and the depth of the characters. We need the next volume NOW!

Very disappointing. I'm sorry but this was really not very good. Nothing like the other Hawke tales. Terrible characters with ridiculous names and really dumb references to current issues with fake news, and just hard to even finish reading.

Not his best work. Overkill seemed to be rushed probably due to Ted Bells work on the pending movie he has been consulting. Story line not one that was as plausible as his prior works. Waited a long time for this release only to be a bit disappointed.

Worst Hawke Ever. This was an extremely disappointing read. It’s was jumpy & disjointed. It’s almost as if a ghost writer was involved. Had it been this first Hawke book I’d ever read, I’d never pick up another. I hope any future books written are in keeping with his previous books.

Ok story. Not up to his usual standards. I had to push to read to the end.

Overkill.. Some of the sayings got repetitive. Not your best effort. Hope for a new installment sooner rather than later

Not good. Not as good as before. It is like reading someone’s else work rather than from Ted Bell. The plot is too eractic and not as detailed as previous novel. Try to be a love story with rehashed characters. Very difficult to finish. I hope the next Hawke’s adventure will be much more succinct and true to characterization.

Warrior turns romance story hero. Way to much romantic and pastoral narrative. Seems like Danielle Steele meets Ted Bell. The thriller plot is also just way to weak. Seems like a book to meet publisher quota and one of the better efforts.

Vulgar. I’ve read all of the Hawke novels and couldn’t finish this one. Had a different feel than previous ones. Pretty vulgar. Don’t recommend.

Who wrote this book?. I love all of the Alex Hawke novels but this one is terrible. It seems like the author outsourced the entire writing, the style is so different from previous books. The story is written in childish prose, and jumps from place to place with no discernible reasoning. Not sure what happened here but I dont think I can even finish this book. Its that bad.

Disappointed. Not even in the same legion as Ted Bells other books

Overkill. Strike this author from your reading list. Should have put it down at the beginning. Really not a good read. Offensive portrayal of women just tops off an unbelievable plot line that takes ridiculous leaps. Spends too much time on trivial aspects of the ‘high life’. No substance. No depth.
