We Can Be Mended by Veronica Roth Book Summary

Globally bestselling author Veronica Roth returns to the world of Divergent in this revealing short-story epilogue that takes place five years after the stunning events of Allegiant.

As Tobias struggles to understand and move past his fears, the world he once knew has changed beyond recognition. Fringe-dwellers, ex-faction members, Bureau dropouts, and migrants now coexist in the rebuilt streets of Chicago.

It’s a new, better world—one where he isn't sure how to belong. As everyone else seems to move forward, Tobias is still haunted by those who couldn’t. But new connections from old friends help him begin to heal—and mend.

And don't miss The Fates Divide, Veronica Roth's powerful sequel to the bestselling Carve the Mark!

Mixed Feelings. Not gonna lie, I totally hate Tobias and Christiana together, but I’m glad Tobias finally found some type of peace. This was a good ending but I prefer just to pretend the 3rd book never happened.

Soooo good. It was good. Wow, I didn’t know that Christina and Tobias would fall in love. Wow. It was too short though, maybe something longer would be better. Why?!!!! WHY DOES THE DIVERGENT SERIES HAVE TO END!!!!!!?

Closure needed. I needed to read it for tris and four

DO NOT READ. This was the worst book written ever. When I read it and found out Tobias and Christina ended up together, it made me want to puke. It felt so wrong and like something Tobias or Christina would ever do. I would not recommend this book to anyone who liked the original divergent series. Tris never should have died and Tobias and Christina should never have gotten together. Literally anyone else in the world would be fine but not Christina. If I had the choice to not rate it, I would use it, because this story doesn’t deserve even a one star rating

Definitely some new takes on the characters. Should of left the series the way it was. Very disappointing, but definitely well written. Just wish it didn’t end this way. :(

Terrible. It was horrible it broke my heart i don’t suggest you read it. I can’t read the main books anymore without think that Christina is a traitor.

Roth wants them $$$. I would have really enjoyed it had Tobias moved on with anyone, but Christina even Cara was a better option at least they had something in common other that grief.

Don’t.. Terrible. Don’t waste the $1.99. There’s a million better endings on fanfiction.net.

Sweet. It was a sweet ending to the saga. Leaving it here is perfect; the closure is sincere, no questions left unanswered. Things don’t end too perfectly because they’re human, and we’re all flawed. But seeing how they rely on each other to move on, instead of using each other as crutches and being held back because of it, was nice. Their maturity shows, time moves on, people try to change while never forgetting where they started. The world changes for the better, and so do our old friends.

Fanfics are better. This is short, and isn’t that good anyways. Save some money and read fanfics instead. (Their better)

AHHH. Noooo, never read this! Tobias and Christina should’ve never come together. Tris shouldn’t have died and even though she did, they should’ve just made Tobias ache for her but look up to her and do everything he does for her

I HATED THIS BOOK. It BROKE MY HEART. And not in a good way. I hated that Tobias ended up with Christina. They never had any chemistry or romance between them the entire series. He barely even liked her as a friend until after Tris died. And it seemed like such a betrayal that he would do that to her, I think it’s an awful way to honor her memory. So, overall, I HATED THIS BOOK MORE THAN ANY BOOK I HAVE EVER READ, although I am absolutely OBSESSED with the original series, and love Veronica Roth for writing them.

Really Amazing. I don’t see why this book gets so much hate, I like it... it’s an epilogue that’s why it’s only 22 pages but it’s worth the read. I love how the characters have closure and they help each other live and love again.

So disappointing. I bought this book hoping I would relieve some of the pain that Allegiant had made me feel but Christina and Four together is just wrong. I get, they connect in the grief but it’s so disappointing and made me just feel mad.

HORRIBLE. I stopped by the fifth page. Tobias and Christina end up together, and Tobias moves on from tris BY GETTING TOGETHER WITH CHRISTINA!!!!!!!! It’s terrible, because it destroys the whole divergent series, where he likes Christina AS A FRIEND. It’s a betrayal and a disgrace to Tris, because her ‘best friend’ ends up with her boyfriend. It’s just WRONG. He wasn’t meant to get over Tris so fast, because the love of his life died in a horrible way. The whole point of the book is that HE LOVES TRIS, so he wouldn’t get together with Christina To Veronica Roth: YOU RUINED ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOK SERIES FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WILL TRY TO FORGET I EVEN READ THIS DISAPPOINTMENT OF A SEQUEL

hot take: it was satisfactory. i know that most probably didn’t like the ending of this or the outcome of how the divergent trilogy ended, but personally? it brought me closure. when i finished allegiant a day or so ago, i felt a rift inside me and i felt empty and without satisfaction. i felt so pleased and desperate to read this and i went through a lot of trouble to do so. in the end, it was mainly satisfactory to me, and i feel like the hole in my heart after reading all those deaths isn’t that big anymore; it’s slowly shrinking so that my heart can remain whole again.

Honestly terrible. Christina and Four ending up together literally doesn’t align with either of their characters and the way the talk about Tris is just not it. She honestly should have never published it

From a dedicated fan of the series... This was disappointing.. predictable, and disappointing. And as much as I hate the ending of “Allegiant” (which I do, SO much), I thought it was still better than this. I spent the entire time reading this (which was short, by the way) thinking “no, don’t do it, don’t do it”. But you did it anyway. You can’t just put everybody with everybody because it’s convenient, Veronica! I can easily see how you would argue the whole “broken-same, mutual past and moving on together” thing, and I agree, they need to move on, but! It would have been okay if it was anyone, anyone else, not them as an item. It’s so wrong. I mean, you could have taken the time and heart to actually *feel* them as you wrote, and be chivalrous enough to create two new characters, and their new stories, right? But of course, it’s not as convenient now, is it? It almost feels like “We Can Be Mended” was written, shortly, mindlessly, unfeelingly even, just for you to relive your golden time as the best-selling author of the series, not because you really care about the plot and how your readers, your fans, would feel reading this, I’m sorry, half-baked piece. I initially gave it 1 star, but then what Christina said about “moving” was (if not the only thing) well written and it stroke me, hence the other star. It’s sad for me to write this review thinking of all the good old time that I spent on the faction fandom sites.

Unnecessary. This whole story was pointless. I agree with the message of moving on, but it’s not right to move on to your dead girlfriend’s best friend. It completely defeats the whole point of moving on from your past.
