The girl who said goodbye a Memoir of a Khmer Rouge Survivor. Being a Vietnam Veteran near the border when the US entered Cambodia May 1, 1970, gave me a personal interest in this book. Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge were biding their time until the US pulled out of Vietnam in 1975 to begin their violent takeover of Cambodia. The “Girl” in this book is a living testimony of escaping death from sickness, starvation and the hands of her murderous captors on multiple occasions. I couldn’t put it down and read it cover to cover twice.
