Historically interesting. I understand the story is a classic and I can make some allowances for almost a century of changes in language, but I still found the style to be laborious and cryptic. Again and again, major events are revealed only a clipped line of dialog. “Show don’t tell” can be taken too far. I want to be told SOME things, not left wondering things like, “Does that mean they just killed him? Is that what happened just now? Why am I guessing about this?!” The introduction was genuinely interesting. Quite a few typos and poor formatting.

Review. The book Frozen Hell is definitely worth your time if you’re interested in the franchise of the thing. The novels provides insights into certain specific logical details of how the thing works (ex: it explains the ability of the thing to assimilate via mass being combined). The novela also introduces the characters such as Mcready which are seen in the 1982 film. Alongside this the story is interesting and the atmosphere is excellent. Due to the way the book was written it can be difficult to understand what’s going on at certain moments and at other times it’s explicitly clear (over and under descriptive). With some patience and interest however this can be overcome. It was a great book to read and helped me to better understand the lore of the thing which I’ll use to my benefit whilst making a short film based on the franchise.
