He saw what you did. He knows who you are…

From the New York Times bestselling author of Pieces of Her and The Silent Wife, an electrifying standalone thriller.

AN ORDINARY LIFE…

Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She’s an up-and-coming defense attorney at a prestigious law firm in Atlanta, would do anything for her sixteen-year-old daughter Maddy, and is managing to successfully coparent through a pandemic after an amicable separation from her husband Walter.

HIDES A DEVASTATING PAST...

But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood no one should have to endure … a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and ultimately destroyed by a brutal act of violence.

BUT NOW THE PAST IS CATCHING UP…

On a Sunday night at her daughter’s school play, she gets a call from one of the firm's partners who wants Leigh to come on board to defend a wealthy man accused of multiple counts of rape. Though wary of the case, it becomes apparent she doesn't have much choice if she wants to keep her job. They're scheduled to go to trial in one week. When she meets the accused face-to-face, she realizes that it’s no coincidence that he’s specifically asked for her to represent him. She knows him. And he knows her. More to the point, he may know what happened over twenty years ago, and why Leigh has spent two decades avoiding her past.

AND TIME IS RUNNING OUT.

Suddenly she has a lot more to lose than this case. The only person who can help is her younger, estranged sister Callie—the last person Leigh would ever want to drag into this after all they’ve been through. But with the life-shattering truth in danger of being revealed, she has no choice...

“A high-stakes thriller . . . Her heroines are believable, flawed and courageous.” –OYINKAN BRAITHWAITE

COMPLETELY UNPUTDOWNABLE!. FALSE WITNESS is a gripping, fast-paced, highly enjoyable read. Callie and Leigh are fresh, fully formed characters that you cannot help but feel for. The very dark moments are made easier with doses of laugh-out loud humor. And it made me cry, twice. I didn’t know a thriller could do that! Slaughter truly gets better with every book and FALSE WITNESS is completely unputdownable. Fan for life.

A sad, gut wrenching story…. An inside look at the lives of those touched by monsters, and how they fight their way out of the maelstrom that had become their lives.

The trial wasn’t over!. I was hoping to read more about the trial. I hope she comes out with another book. I thought a lot of it was gruesome to read but it was very interesting and intense!

False Witness. This is my second Novel by this author. The audiobooks take me on a journey of intrigue, and suspense. I drive for work, and this is how I pass my time.

It was Ohhhk - Meh.. It’s no Grant county or Will Trent book, but it was a decent read. Love her work and normally I can read her books in a day or 2; this one took me about a week. For those of us in need of a Slaughter masterpiece fix - it’ll have to do. I sure do miss Will who she has made all of us love!

False Witness. Best book you have written. The love, tenderness, brutal honesty, and excruciating pain and loneliness depicted in this book brings so much hope, tears, and a very grateful heart not only to me but I dare dream for our world. Thank you. Blessed be.

Please read!. This book had me from the beginning with strong female characters that have real fears. Lots of twists I didn’t suspect! A few holes in the story, but it will keep you reading!

False Witness. Fast paced Intriguing plot Enjoyed every page

False witness. Great read…I cried at the end…

I want to like it. More time is spent on details surrounding covid than anything else! Every other page is about her putting a mask on. Or when her sister had covid. Or when she had covid. Or vaccines. Or long covid. Don’t bother. I really want to get my money back.

Disappointment. Cardboard, unlikeable characters. Didn’t care what happened to any of them. Interesting storyline.

5 stars. Couldn’t put it down!!

Great story but . .. Great story, but it seemed to drag on and on and on. I would skip paragraphs, just to get back into what happened next.

Incredible book. I could absolutely not put this down!

The best yet. I love all of her books but this was one of her best!

Loved it!. Fantastic. One of her best and so different.

Tested positive for frustration. SO MUCH COVID I couldn’t tell if it was sardonic or earnest. Not what I come for in an escapist read.

Good but overwritten. Enjoyable read that could be accomplished in 400 pages or less.

Lethal Witness. Well written. Very engaging plot/story. Well defined and engaging characters. A difficult to put down read.

False Witness. Not too bad of a story line but the constant references to COVID and masks was not central to story and made it almost unreadable. Should have read the Author’s Note at the end and saved myself the time.

Meh. If you’re tired of talking about Covid and politics of any kind don’t choose this one.

not her best but still good. I have read multiple of karin’s slaughters work and it’s fair to say that this has been the worst one, although that does not mean it was bad. It still had good writing and pulled you in but it just did not compare to some of her other books. Also i know this book is new so covid was a thing when she wrote but i really hate that she even mentioned it at all. Especially in the beginning of the book when every page had a covid reference it was annoying me.

False witness does make sense for this book. The story is pretty good, it drags on a long time and the constant Covid reminders that have nothing to do with the actual story are really annoying!

Good Flow. Very good read and a page turner for sure. Disappointed that the ending didn’t keep pace with the rest of the book and could have been a bit more riveting.

Riveting. This story had me captivated and immersed so deeply that I read it finish to end in one sitting. The harrowing history of these two sisters is devastating and their loyalty, love and abject guilt they both carried with them since they were teenagers is diametrically opposite of each other’s yet equally as crippling and damaging. The twists, shocking revelations and circumstances that have happened will leave the reader shocked and the desperate actions these two are forced to face and the choices they have made will leave you awestruck

Heavyyy. This is the first Karin Slaughter book that I read and man it was a little heavy. I love thrillers but have never read one where any type of SA has been a part of it. Especially in detail. Nonetheless, the book kept me wanting to read more and more from start to finish. The epilogue had me SHOOK.

False Witness. I read this book over a two day period and kept hoping it would resolve happily, but when I realized it would not I thought about not reading the rest of the book. But I kept reading, and sure enough it got even more sad. But the writing style was superb and I realized I had to read it until the end. I never cry when I read, but this book brought me to my knees. There were many themes and subplots, but the overall core of the book was the overwhelming love of the sisters, Leigh and Callie. I hesitate to say this because of the terrible suffering and evil that exists in this world, but it was a truly beautiful book. So I am glad I kept reading and recommend this book.

False Witness. Not as good as her others. As far as incorporating the pandemic into the story,it has no bearing on the story at all and could have easily been left out.

Emotional roller coaster. Best work yet!

Disappointing. If this had been first of Slaughter’s books I’d read, I’d never read another. Not one likable character. I need at least one to root for. Very repetitive. I started skimming many pages without losing track of what was going on. And I carried through to the bitter end. But glad to see the end. I do not recommend.

Verbose!!!. This book was very wordy and boring. I was able to skip through several pages throughout the book without missing anything of importance.

False Witness. Ms. Slaughter certainly has a way with words and a compelling story. I couldn’t put this down. The twists continued right up to the end. Now going back to the Will Trent series.

Incredible. Cried, laughed, got spooked… incredible

Loved this!. The author never ceases to amaze me. I have read all of her books and this latest one did not disappoint. The depth of her characters make me feel their emotions.

False Witness. I believe this her best novel yet!

Pass this one up.. I was not a fan of this book. The ending was the best part. The constant Covid references were annoying and the characters were not likable.

Her best yet. Best book yet. At times a tiny bit redundant however it kept me up at night wanting more

Loved it. Great read

False Witness. Why is it that when I finish a novel like this I feel as if I need trauma counseling? Don’t get me wrong. Karin Slaughter is one of the best writers I read yet I choose what I read of hers with trepidation. Will this be just a great read (The Will Trent series) or will it be a lesson in how to recover from being punched in the face by details so horrible that no one but a prosecuting attorney should be allowed or forced to read them. What is wrong with her that she can so expertly describe the kind of trauma these girls had to endure? Why would she want to? I read for entertainment and for a temporary escape. The world she’s asking us to escape to, while I’m sure it exists, should not be put out there as entertainment. It’s depressing and sad. Would she be willing to use her talent to write something lovely that is entertaining as well? I’ve seen her brush up against it in the Will Trent series. Can she write more of that and less of something that requires you to get counseling once you’ve finished it?

False witness. Felt like I had to take a shower after reading this book… Way too guttural for my taste..and I am in no way a prude…

COVID fiction. The most painful excuse for a novel I’ve read in a long time. You slop all this COVID crap all over the place and true to form most of it is fiction. Give me a break! You should be ashamed!

Great!. Great, suspenseful, & heart wrenching read!

4 stars. Good plot, just very drawn out and longer than it should be. Characters are really intriguing, definitely worth reading.

Great from start to finish. I can’t recommend this book enough. No lulls. I couldn’t put it down. Great thriller

One of Slaughter’s Better Books.. I felt so sorry for both Leigh and Callie, two sisters dealing with a murder they committed and hid for many years. They had been sexually abused by the parent of a child that they babysat, and he grew up to be just as twisted. The book takes us through the guilt of both sisters, and the life choices they make because of their trauma. Leigh is an attorney, who compartmentalizes her emotions and relationships in order to function, while Callie is a junkie who floats through life. Leigh is faced with a case that rocks her to her core. The defendant is accused of a vicious rape, and he is none other than the child she babysat years ago. Is he innocent or was this all a part of his evil plan? I liked that Slaughter kept with the times as she shows us how Covid-19 and the pandemic has affected many parts of our lives, down to how the legal system operates. Reading about masks, social distancing, virtual learning, and everything else that we face in this era made the story more believable.

Rubbish. Really disappointed. One of my favourite authors wrote such a piece of garbage.

🙄. Would have given more stars but… read to escape Covid being shoved in our faces 24/7. The covid “storyline” had absolutely ZERO baring in this book. It could have been left out and the storyline wouldn’t have changed AT ALL. Exaggerations, and had a “let’s put covid in this book so it can be looked back on as a piece of history” tone to it that grossly missed the mark
