Plum Island by Nelson DeMille Book Summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

CELEBRATING THE 20th ANNIVERSARY WITH A NEW FOREWORD BY THE AUTHOR

Wounded in the line of duty, NYPD homicide detective John Corey convalesces in the Long Island township of Southold, home to farmers, fishermen -- and at least one killer. Tom and Judy Gordon, a young, attractive couple Corey knows, have been found on their patio, each with a bullet in the head. The local police chief, Sylvester Maxwell, wants Corey's big-city expertise, but Maxwell gets more than he bargained for.

John Corey doesn't like mysteries, which is why he likes to solve them. His investigations lead him into the lore, legends, and ancient secrets of northern Long Island -- more deadly and more dangerous than he could ever have imagined. During his journey of discovery, he meets two remarkable women, Detective Beth Penrose and Mayflower descendant Emma Whitestone, both of whom change his life irrevocably. Ultimately, through his understanding of the murders, John Corey comes to understand himself.

Fast-paced and atmospheric, marked by entrancing characters, incandescent storytelling, and brilliant comic touches, Plum Island is Nelson DeMille at his thrill-inducing best.

Don’t waste the time or money. Now I remember why I stopped reading Deville.

Plum Island. Good book, hard to put down. Only problem I found was the extended conversation during the boat chase was a little too long for those sea conditions. Based on my experiences in Coast Guard search and rescue, I found any conversation in an open boat nearly impossible during a CAT-1 hurricane. Wind, rain, sea and engine noises alone would have drowned them out, making conversation very difficult. With that said, that part of the book was very dramatic.

PLUM ISLAND. I dreaded to think of reading the final chapter of Plum Island! John Corey's character is endearing, brilliant, quite witty with a great sense of humor. This is yet another page turner for Demille. Plum Island is a book that you will look forward to jumping back into the storyline. Another superior, well written book. I am a huge Nelson Demille fan and this is not biased opinion, but try and find a writer who can compete with Demille? Maybe Vince Flynn is the closest you will find. Loved this book!

Plum Island. Got tired of his smart remarks and the story was going nowhere

Great Book!. What a great way to introduce a main character to your franchise DeMille. Corey was an absolute delight and one of the few characters that have made me laugh out loud at his antics and sarcasm. Can't wait for iBooks to put the sequel (and only missing Corey novel) up for sale soon. Need a new book and don't want to skip!

Many many years I read this. I thought I would give it the test of time.. Plum Island was my first Nelson DeMille an I never missed another. Not one. I used to waste time trying to decide which was my favorite but kind of like choosing the favorite kid. I decided it was time to give it another read. Considering my age of 73 I thought might be parts I didn’t remember. Only thing that really stuck was John on the front porch and The Gut. But at least now I know that Plum Island is still my favorite and gets extra credit for opening a world of stories I have loved since I bought it new and hugged it all the way home.

Great book!. I loved this book! Great read!

Sophomoric. It was an easy read, but the characters were shallow and mostly unpleasant. I think boys under 21 years old would enjoy it more then I did.

His Best!. This is the best of the best every minute and just as good the third time around.DannyBoy491

Plum Island. Downloaded this book several years ago and never got around to finally read it...now I’m hooked, line and sinker on cool John Corey. So happy there’s more in the series. Great story and characters. Highly recommend.

Plum Island. This book is such a parable of what can and has happened with the technology of weaponizing existing medical diseases. Hmmm just think of the Wuhan Virus.

Plum island. Awesome read. Could not stop reading. John Corey is a terrific character and DeMille uses him to perfection...

Good fun. A very fun read. Put your brain on hold and go for a ride.

Never got into this one.. I think I was spoiled by DeMille's excellent recent works - The Lion's Game, The Lion & The Panther, which I highly recommend with 5 stars. This one was a tough read for me.

Wild ride. Fabulous. John Corey is smart, irreverent and sharp as a tack.

Great read. You must follow up with the Lions Game and then the Lion. The Lion was recommended to me by a friend ... I read that first then continued to read the trilogy in reverse order. Every one is excellent ... I expect that hollywood will make John Corey the next Dirty Harry. Enjoy the reads.

Plum Island Nelson DeMille. Wounded in the line of duty NYPD Homicide Detective John Corey is convalescing at his uncles house in rural eastern Long Island. Life is good and he is healing from the three bullit wounds he suffered. Then he is approached by the local chief of police involving the murder of two of his neighbors. He is asked to assist on the cause and the bodies continue to pile up. Non stop action, suspense and heartbreak. An excellent read!! My highest recommendation!!

Glad there are more. I’ve read my share of mystery thrillers and this ranks up there as one of my favs. While John Corey is on the cheeky side of sarcasm it is so well written you have to laugh. Can’t wait to see if the follow up books are as good.

One of my favorite authors. Just love Corey’s personality and the relationships developed around him. Hard to put this book down.

Money back please!!. Seriously!!! I've read at least 600 pages of this book,am sooooo bored, when is something exciting gonna happen!! Not sure if I can finish it....its that bad! The Charm School, now that book was a page turner! Someone please recommend a great read from Mr.Nelson because I don't wanna waste Another $7.00 bucks! Could of bought me some breakfast and be fulfilled !

Plum Island. Simply boring enough to stop reading.

Definitely a page turner. As a former New Yorker I loved that the story is in Long Island and many places I have been to. The characters are exciting and the story is filled with such suspense it is difficult to put the book down. The main character, John Corey, he is definitely a character. His New York attitude is both funny and at times frustrating. I was happy to hear there are five more books with John Corey. He is a force to be reckoned with. Knowing he is part of the story....well, let's just say it will be another page turner.

So so. I really wanted to like this book. The lead character is funny and almost believable until the end. I like the geography/history lesson included in the story. What I didn't care for was a complete lack of any surprise on who the bad guys were...in fact that is revealed very early on..before the 200 pages of a sea chase. Is this a book or screen play? All in all less than stellar.

Great read. Talk about a page turner! This book was excellently written and was almost impossible to put down.

Funny detective thriller. Rich, funny, quirky, believable narrator, deft and evocative settings, clever if slightly too elongated plot, uproarious moments, perhaps an overdone finale. Read this for the brilliant writing, characterization, and sometimes uproarious humor. I hope De Mille reads these reviews because he deserves thanks for his many great novels -- I'm on my eighth in a row and dread reaching the enforced end of my de Mille binge.

Fun, fast paced, and gripping. John Corey is a fun character, makes you wish you knew some one like this in real life, great story, read this over an entire weekend, just couldn't put it down!

Amazing. One of my most favorite books of all time!

Awesome read. Plum Island is the first of three DeMille books that features one of my favorite characters, John Corey.
