Un renombrado luchador invicto que ha pasado la mitad de su vida encerrado en una celda subterránea, toma la decisión de escribir la historia de su vida en un códice titulado “Le griffen testamentum”, en el cual narra los sucesos más trascendentales de su largo viaje por el mundo y sus desdichadas experiencias como soldado del Ejército Real.
Sentenciado a pasar el resto de sus días en soledad, el protagonista termina aceptando su grisáceo destino a manos de sus amos, quienes sólo buscan usarlo como medio de entretenimiento, para alegrar al pueblo en sus truculentas demostraciones en la arena de batalla, como el glorioso gladiador conocido popularmente como “Fantasma de Fysiah”.
Pasando por diferentes etapas de incertidumbre y escasez, desamparo y depresión, la realidad se vuelve más dura de lo deseado y todo riesgo corrido pierde sentido a medida que se van complicando las cosas. La tesitura de la época marca de forma definitiva al autor de la autobiografía, dándole un distintivo toque pesimista que realza su inefable desesperanza y sus pocas ganas de vivir.
