Make a Wish by Helena Hunting Book Summary

With her signature charm and sense of humor, bestselling author Helena Hunting creates a novel about love, family, and second chances in Make a Wish.

Ever have a defining life moment you wish you could do over? Harley Spark has one. The time she almost kissed the widowed father of the toddler she nannied for. It was so bad they moved across the state and she never saw them again.

Fast forward seven years and she’s totally over it. At least she thinks she is. Until Gavin Rhodes and his adorable now nine-year-old daughter, Peyton, reappear at a princess-themed birthday party hosted by Spark House, Harley’s family’s event hotel. Despite trying to avoid the awkwardness of the situation, she can’t help but notice how unbearably sexy he looks in a tutu. Add to that a spontaneous hives breakout, and it’s clear she’s not even remotely over the mortification of her egregious error all those years ago.

Except Gavin seems oblivious to her inner turmoil. So much so that he suggests they get together for lunch. For Peyton’s sake, of course. It’s the perfect opportunity to heal old wounds. Or it could just reopen them. This is one of those times Harley wishes she could see the future…

My favorite of this series.. My favorite of this series. This age gap/nannyish storyline will definitely pull at your heartstrings as well as steam up your glasses. It’s definitely worth the read.

Good ending. The final Spark sister to get her HEA was my favorite of the series. Harley is very strong even though she's so young. Her feelings were so deep and so powerful. Peyton was the best part of these characters. This series was cute and I enjoyed getting to know them

Love Gavin and Harley. This is the last of The Spark House series and features Harley Sparks, the youngest of the three Spark sisters. Eight years ago, when she was twenty, she nannied for widower Gavin Rhodes. Gavin’s wife died during childbirth, and he was trying to deal with his grief and a newborn. One night, they almost cross a line, and Gavin ends up moving away. It is now eight years later, and Harley is working a children’s party and their family venue, when Gavin arrives with his 9 year old daughter, Peyton. Gavin and Harley start to reconnect through Peyton. They eventually realize that there is more there than the connection through Peyton, but can they work through their respective baggage to get to their happily ever after? I loved this final book of this series and am a bit sad that there weren’t more sisters for future books. I received an arc of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.

Great finale. I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the last book in a three-part series. It easily stands alone. This is an age gap, nanny sort of romance, and single dad romance plus its also a second chance at love for this couple. The story begins 8 years before when Harley is a young girl of 20 and she is nannying for Gavin who is 29. He is a young single dad whose wife died in childbirth. She has been working for him for the last 18 months and she has a huge crush on him. They have a moment shall we say, and then she never sees him again until 8 years later at Spark House. Gavin and Peyton have moved back to town and Peyton falls very hard for Harley so much, so she begs her dad for playdates and that starts Harley and Gavin's relationship. There are some issues along the way to their happily ever after like a boyfriend and a Mother In Law and what Harley wants for her future and Gavin has some major things to figure out too. This was a really well-done romance. I liked that the author threw some obstacles in the way that were realistic and made their journey to second chance to love more realistic. A really awesome way for this series to end.

Beautiful story!. What a beautiful story. Gavin has been through so much with the loss of his wife and being a single dad from the start. I loved how Harley had a roll in their lives when Peyton was a baby, then again when they moved back to town. The bond that Harley builds with Peyton was really beautiful, and Gavin and Harley have amazing chemistry. They had a ton of issues to work through, and it wasn’t easy. I felt every heartbreak and ounce of grief that they were working through. I really loved how Harley stepped up and voiced her feelings about Spark House. I felt like she was drifting aimlessly for awhile, but she really fought for what she wanted. These sisters have been really fun to get to know and read about. I have really enjoyed this series

Great second chance romance. 4.5 stars. I loved returning to Sparks House for Harley’s book. Harley was a nanny before she started to help her sisters with running Sparks House and Gavin is the dad of one of children that she nannied for, Years later Peyton (and Gavin) attend one of the birthday parties Harley has coordinated at Sparks House. Harley and Gavin try to reconnect as friends, but the attraction is too much to ignore. I enjoyed this age gap, single father romance. Gavin is still trying to deal with the loss of his wife (even though it has been years) and how to move on to a new relationship. I liked how strong Harley was and standing up for herself-not wanting to be second best, but was also very patient and understanding with Gavin’s struggles. I also enjoyed the interactions with Peyton and how she and Harley just meshed. This is a great read.

Utter Perfection!. Make A Wish (Spark House #3) by Helena Hunting. This one was by far my favorite in the Spark House series! This second chance romance stole my heart. I had been eager to get my hands on this story and it was Utter Perfection!! Page by page this book consumed me infused with Helena Huntings unique style, she delivered a love story that is entertaining, well written, full of emotion, character and a romance, with great chemistry and lots of heat like no other. A must read book and series! Harley Sparks and Gavin Rhodes have a history. Nine years ago Harley was nanny to his daughter Peyton, until they moved away. Gavin and Peyton have recently moved back to the area and Harley is totally taken by surprise when they arrive at a Spark House Birthday party she is in charge of. But Harley is really floored when he asks her to lunch. It evident that Harley still has feelings for Gavin as well as Peyton. And soon she finds herself lending a hand with Peyton once again and growing attached to both Gavin and Peyton. Harley has been struggling with her role at Spark House as all her duties and roles keep changing. She loves being with children and is very creative. Harley and Peyton are adorable together. And this sweet adorable nine year old steals the show as these two reconnect. But with a boyfriend already and Gavin’s mother-in-law that is not a fan of any female around her granddaughter, these two have a lot to figure out. This one brings all the feels, it will make you laugh and it will bring you to tears at times. I love that Harley is so understanding and patient with Gavin as he struggles to fight for them. I loved every moment of this book. And you really need to read this book now. Utter Perfection! I received an early copy and this is my honest review.

A Perfect HEA. Make a Wish is the final book in Helena Hunting’s Spark House series and I love that she saved Harlow for last! We’ve gotten to see glimpses of her in the first two books but I loved finally getting to really know her. There is so much more to her character than imagined and Make a Wish gives us a chance to let us really see her grow. I loved the dynamic between her and Gavin. Though he’s a bit older, he’s still in new territory with relationships and in its own way this is a second chance. Harlow is sweet, and imaginative, and has a heart of gold. Pairing Her with a single dad was perfect for her character and her relationship with Peyton just makes it even sweeter. And, if you love a single dad like I do, you’ll love seeing Gavin with Peyton. I’m sorry to see Spark House come to an end but this is the perfect ending. We also got to check in with Avery and Declan and London and Jackson. It’s always fun to see the sisters together, As always, Helena makes the story sweet and funny with a side of spice!

A strong finish to the Spark House trilogy!. I am a huge fan of this author. Her ability to write stories about very real characters with their insecurities, emotional struggles, strength, and bravery is as present here a in all of her novels, where she blends her humor with emotion to create stories that make me fall in love with them. I also love the way she writes children with all their exuberance and love for life as well as their own emotional needs. Then nine-year old child and her single dad are impossible not to fall in love with in this story. Harley didn’t stand a chance of avoiding them. The strong bond between the sisters is just as present in this story as the two preceding ones and the backdrop of the continuous changes with their family event space added depth to Harley’s character and her place in her family. I wouldn’t miss out on reading this story! I am voluntarily submitting this review after reading sn advanced complementary copy of this book.

Wishes come true. There were scenes in this book that reminded me of my childhood or my one grandmother that made it an automatic win for me. The characters in this story worked so well together and I did not want it to end as a result. I think Harley might be my favorite Spark sister.

Make a Wish. A*R*C for honest review with no compensation, Received from NeGalley and St. Martin Press 4.5 stars Make A Wish is book 3 in the Spark House series by Helena Hunting with the final Spark sister, Harley. Sure hope we see more of Spark House, the Spark sisters and maybe the new Sparkle House… This Harley’s story from her time as a nanny to a single dad, Gavin Rhoades who lost his wife during childbirth. After almost 2 yrs, she almost kisses Gavin (who is still grieving) and suddenly he up and moves away. Now 7 yrs later he and Peyton move back to the area and they reconnect but all it not as easy as it looks on the surface. Confrontation, old feelings surface, not letting go of the past, some laughter, tears and more…

Super cute. What a finale for such a wonderful series! I have loved every minute of getting to know these wonderful sisters and their forever loves. Harley is such a sweet character and there is no one better for her than Gavin and Peyton. If you love a single father with an adorable, precocious little girl then this is a must read.

All the feels. If you love second chance romances with a single dad added to the mix then Make a Wish should certainly be on your radar. As you would expect from the very talented Helena Hunting this read is entertaining, well written with characters you can’t help loving. Gavin Rhodes and Harley Sparks have a history and they have known each other for many years because she was once the nanny to his daughter Peyton. Gavin and Peyton have recently moved back and Harley is surprised when she meets him at a Spark House Event and she is event more shocked when he asks her to lunch…….so what does the future hold for this couple well i would one to click to find out if I was you. This book ticked all my boxes, I fell hard and fast for Gavin, I adored Harley, the chemistry is scorching hot, the banter is witty and the emotion had me in tears but it was a little girl named Peyton who stole the show and took this story to another level. Beautifully written, emotional yet entertaining journey that’s a wonderful addition to the Spark House Series.

Loved it. I love Helena Hunting's writing style. I know when I pick up a book by this author I am in for a well written, entertaining story with characters who you cannot help but fall for. Make A Wish is a second chance at love story that ticked all the boxes for me.Harley Spark and Gavin Rhodes have a history after all she used to be the nanny to his daughter Peyton. Now Gavin and Peyton have returned and Harley is shocked when she sees the at an event at Spark House. When Gavin asks Harley to lunch she reluctantly agrees. Make A Wish was an emotional story that had me smiling and crying at times. I loved Harley, she is a woman I could easily see as a friend and one who cares deeply. The connection she shares with Gavin is strong and I absolutely loved the relationship that they both had with Peyton who almost stole the show form our couple. A beautifully romantic love story that let me with a smile on my face. I received an copy of this book through the publisher via Netgalley

Impassioned and touching. MAKE A WISH is the third instalment in Helena Hunting’s contemporary, adult SPARK HOUSE romance series focusing on the Spark sisters: Avery, London and Harley. This is thirty-eight year old, landscape architect and widower Gavin Rhodes, and twenty-eight year old, nanny/co-owner of Spark House/Event hotel Harley Spark’ s story line. MAKE A WISH can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Told from dual first person perspectives (Harley and Gavin) with a final chapter from Peyton, MAKE A WISH follows the building relationship and romance between thirty-eight year old, landscape architect and widower Gavin Rhodes, and twenty-eight year old, nanny/co-owner of Spark House/Event hotel Harley Spark. At twenty years of age, Harley Spark was hired as the nanny to Gavin Rhodes’ infant daughter Peyton but Gavin was struggling in the wake of his wife’s death, and his attraction to our story line heroine. Battling his emotions, Gavin and his daughter Peyton moved across the state, leaving a heart broken Harley in the process. Fast forward to present day wherein Harley is now working for the family owned Spark House and Event Centre, she will come face to face with her past in the guise of Gavin Rhodes and his now nine year old daughter. Hoping to renew their friendship Gavin begins to include our heroine in family events, as well as depending upon Harley to help out in a pinch but all does not go according to plan when the heart wants something more, and guilt and grief threaten any possibility of a future together. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Gavin and Harley, and the potential fall-out as Gavin is unable to let go of the past, and Harley is unable to compete with the ghost of a woman who died too young. Harley Spark had always intended to get her degree in infant and child care but Gavin’s rejection, and the need to help refurbish the Spark House meant Harley spent most of her time working for the family business. With the hopes of a children’s centre and birthday party event house, Harley’s plans are rejected, and she finds herself at a stalemate with her future going forward. The return of Gavin and his daughter Peyton pulls Harley into the family she once loved and adored but there may be an underlying issue for the man with whom Harley is falling in love. Gavin Rhodes has yet to move forward from the loss of his wife, and in his grief has allowed external forces to control the who, what and how of his nuclear family. Renewing his friendship with Peyton pushes Gavin outside of his current comfort zone, a friendship that quickly turns into something more. The relationship between Gavin and Harley is one of second chances, of a sorts; a rebuilding friendship wherein Harley is unable to see past the obvious, and Gavin continues to hide behind a wall of grief, guilt and loss. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. All of the previous story line couples plays secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Gavin’s soon to be ten year old daughter Peyton, his parents Judith and Gareth, his former in-laws Karen and Kyle, and his friends.co-worker Ian and Lynn. MAKE A WISH is an emotional story of grief and loss, guilt and struggle, acceptance and love, family, friendships and moving forward. The premise is impassioned and touching; the romance is seductive but heart breaking; the characters are struggling, determined and real.

Third Sparks’ a Charm, Well They All Are Binge the Whole Series. I adore this Spark House series and now that each sister’s story is complete I cannot wait to recommend binging these three stories back to back. Check out my more detailed thoughts below… Characters: Harley is the youngest Spark sister and is seemingly the most lost about her role in the future of Spark House. As much as these books have been about the sisters and their love interests, it has also been cool to see the evolution of Spark House. Harley is the type of character that is easy to love, a super nice person and caring to all. Her love interest is Gavin, and oh my poor boy! I really loved how dynamic his character was. He doesn’t really have it all together much either, both of our characters are struggling with this. For Gavin, his story is just as much a story of someone figuring out how to live with their grief instead of pushing it down. Setting: This story is set in Colorado Springs, with the Spark House playing a major role. I enjoyed that the Spark House represented different things for each Spark sister. For Harley, it is a stressor, but some aspects that are seemingly becoming obsolete bring her joy. If you have read these books in the order you will appreciate the inner workings of the Spark House and Mills Co. acquisition, you’ll love it even more if you have read the books about the Mills’ (Shacking Up, Hooking Up). Pacing: Helena really concocted these stories at such a perfect length. I was said when it ended because I am sad to leave the Spark sisters behind. Romance: This was an interesting romance. I have seen takes on this trope before, the nanny/babysitter and the single dad falling in love. I have never seen someone write it in this way, that the first temptation happened so many years before and then we flash forward years later. When the heroine is a bit older and a bit more ready for this relationship to surpass just a crush or flirtation. Helena always does a good job of balancing the hot, intensity of the characters hooking up in secret. Balanced nicely with the way that feelings could not help but grow between Harley and Gavin.

4 Stars for this heartwarming story. I'm presuming this is the last book in this series as it is the last sister's story. This has been a cute romance series. Harley is such a ray of sunshine ... she made my heart happy. There were times I wanted to give Gavin a swift kick, but I know he went through a lot when he lost his wife and had a daughter to raise on his own. Then there's Gavin's daughter Payton ... she is just so cute. I love that the dynamic between Payton and Harley is strong right from the start. This is a great addition to the series and I'm sad that it's over. Harley is the youngest Spark sister and she loves kids. Right out of school she takes a nanny job for a man (Gavin) who lost his wife during childbirth. When Harley starts to have feelings for Gavin, he up and moves to Boulder which is about 2 hours away, leaving Harley without a job. Harley is not only heart-broken because of Gavin, but also because she loved his daughter. She decides to take a break from kids and goes to work at Spark house with her sisters. Seven years later Gavin and his daughter move back to Colorado Springs and accidently meet Harley at a birthday party Peyton is attending. It doesn't take long for Harley's feelings for Gavin to come rushing back ... only this time, does Gavin feel the same? Or will the memory of his deceased wife keep them apart? I received an early copy in exchange for a honest review.
