Great book but tired of having to buy it over and over again. Awesome book but unfortunately Apple seems to be skrewing me cause it like to just delete my Horus heresy books from my iTunes ....... it's not even under hidden purchases it's just gone and I'm kinda tired of having to buy things more then once

Book 4. This book acts as a character shift in the series. Loken is no longer the focal character. However, he is replaced by an Astartes of equally sound moral standing. Book does a great job of bringing new characters into the universe and fleshing out stories for ones that were very one dimensional in previous entries.

Must read. If you’re looking for Death Guard origins stories, well then this is a must read!

Epitome of 40k. This book has been one of the best I have ever read. Like many of the 40k books, it is in depth, strong to the point, but above all else, it will keep you guessing. A definite to add to your own 40k library.

:). As disappointed as I am that Garviel Loken is no longer the main character, Nathaniel Garro is a good follow-up even if he can be a little bit more overtly righteous. The events feel like they are almost too slow at the start and accelerate greatly throughout the book. The travel through the warp is great and the battle that ensues as well, I love Kaleb and the role he plays in the story. To me the segments regarding the emperor are a little bit terse and utilitarian. It feels like everyone in this book series is thoroughly characterized except the emperor and that is probably on purpose but its still a little bit frustrating for me. Like when describing barbarus and the reclaiming of mortarion I feel like it basically just says yeah the emperor got there helped him with his stuff and then gave him control of the dusk raiders, neglecting to really say anything of substance about the emperor and his specific character especially when it would be so important to the nature of the impending betrayal.

GREAT. An exciting story with great characters. It sticks to the Horus Hersey storyline.

Great Book!. It is a great work of science fiction, all the books from the Horus Heresy are detailed works of 40k gold! I've read this novel 4 times!

I enjoyed it but…. I enjoyed this book but out of the first four books this one took the longest to read. I enjoyed the story but I think the long chapters and the scene setting made it a bit of a longer effort. Still really enjoyed it and looking forward to the next book

Easily the better writer. In terms of story this is a much narrower scope than the previous epics - and I think it works better - some of the writers of the Heresy series get a bit overwhelmed coming up with bigger and bigger scenes and trying to run to their thesaurus for new synonyms for 'huge'. It's almost emotional this time and for a book set in the WH40K universe that's pretty unusual. Technically the writing is also much better, not over describing every battle detail or geeking out over the machinery - it focuses on actual characters and has a nice spin on how these secular soldiers come to be gothic religious zealots - keeping the focus on a few key characters makes it less of a background info story and more of a real novel.

Excellent. This book is a gripping personal account of the journey from Istvaan to Terra from the sole perspective of one loyal space marine. It differs in scope from the opening trilogy but is no less enjoyable. I would highly recommend reading.

James Swallow instalment is perfection. I had never read anything by James Swallow until the Flight of the Eisenstein. I had no idea what to expect. When I was done I would say his storytelling abilities, character development and vivid descriptions of people and events from HH legend, specifically, the actual escape of the Eisenstein to warn the Imperium of Horus’ treachery is one of my favourite of the entire series.
