A very honest and insightful view of a tough sport. I remember Laurent Fignon as being one of my favourite riders in the early 80's. He was always easy to spot in the bunch with his long flowing hair and his round rim glasses. He inspired me to get involved in amateur racing and represents an era when riders were not afraid to fail. This book gives a great insight into the closed world of the cycling peloton. Fignon always came across as the thinking mans cyclist and this book certainly reinforces that opinion. I was impressed by his ability to be conscious of his internal conflicts and his motivation and desires, more so than any other cycling writer that I have read. His comments on team members and DS's are kind and considered, even those with who he had fallen out with during his career. A recommended read if you enjoy cycles port.
