Simply Lies by David Baldacci Book Summary

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The 6:20 Man comes a twisting new psychological thriller in which two women—one a former detective, the other a dangerous con artist—go head-to-head in an electrifying game of cat and mouse.

Mickey Gibson, single mother and former detective, leads a hectic life similar to that of many moms: juggling the demands of her two small children with the tasks of her job working remotely for ProEye, a global investigation company that hunts down wealthy tax and credit cheats.

When Mickey gets a call from a colleague named Arlene Robinson, she thinks nothing of Arlene’s unusual request for her to go inventory the vacant home of an arms dealer who cheated ProEye’s clients and fled. That is, until she arrives at the mansion to discover a dead body in a secret room—and that nothing is as it seems.

Not only does the arms dealer not exist but the murder victim turns out to be Harry Langhorne, a man with mob ties who used to be in Witness Protection. What’s more, no one named Arlene Robinson works at ProEye.

In the blink of an eye, Gibson has become a prime suspect in a murder investigation—and now her job is also on the line until she proves that she was set up. Before long, Gibson is locked in a battle of wits with a brilliant woman with no name, a hidden past, and unknown motives—whose end game is as mysterious as it is deadly.

Simply Lies. Not one of his better works.

Simply Lies. Sorry to trash anyone’s efforts but this book was absolutely one of the worst things I’ve ever read. It’s shallow, disconnected, and disjointed. Baldacci doesn’t trust his readers enough to build a viable plot. He just keeps dropping in nonsense ‘clues’ and random characters in what I assume is intended to build suspense. Nothing is tied up logically … it’s just a bunch of junk sliding downhill into a heap. Baldacci seems like a really nice person and I’m sorry to be so frank, but this book is abysmal. A complete waste of time and money.

Simply Lies. I don’t think David Baldacci wrote this book If he really did, he is slipping!!

False advertising. Zero stars as only 19 pages down loaded from the store.

Convoluted. Ends well, but takes a while to get there. Somewhat hard to follow with people changing names and a lot of characters. Not his best work, but hold your attention.

Terrible. I have read a lot of Baldacci’s books but this one is terrible. I stopped 1/3rd of the way. Very schizophrenic and feels like it was written for a dumb reader. Hated it.

Not up to the usual Baldacci standard. From the start there is an editing error. Nice job Mitch. There are more characters in this book than Game of Thrones. Most of the characters have additional identities. Was that all really necessary?!?! No! All in all this was very disappointing. Anyone giving this book more than two stars doesn’t really know the quality of this author’s other books.

simply. worst baldacchino book ever. Plot line was totally unbelievable. A professional computer expert and ex cop takes phone calls and follows directions from some deranged stranger and doesn’t talk to anyone about or investigate who it is. Ridiculous and not believable.

3/4 of the book in, nothing happens. Monotonous, slow, un-engaging characters, I keep hoping something happens, but I have reached the limit of my patience. Cannot finish it. A waste of money and time. This one is a disappointing dud

Absolutely awesome!. Excellent work.

Not his best work. Disjointed story line with a lot of loose ends. Not an easy read like so many of his other books. Easily could of stopped reading halfway thru as the story flow and actions of the characters did not make sense.

LIES !!!! !. A great read I had a lot of fun with Baldacci’s characters and this fast moving story line. Funny how it all worked out in the end, quirks and all. I’ve read just about all his books and they’re always entertaining.

Simply Lies. A good read and an interesting, though somewhat complicated, story.

A total waste. Baldachi has talent but not shown in this contrived work. contrived tale. Terrible waste of talent..totally contrived work.

Disappointing. Baldacci’s not the author I think he used to be. This story is simply too far-fetched to be enjoyable. A few high points of course, but overall not a book I can recommend reading.

Simply Lies. I really enjoyed this book. Certainly kept me interested from the very beginning. I have read almost all of his books. This one was different, very interesting and a real plot twister.

This could be the start of something big…. Worthy of a sequel, see what the ladies can do together when they’re fully on the same page all the time.

Simply Lies. I love this author’s books!! I greatly enjoyed reading this story, and read it completely in a day. It is heartening to see the resilience of the human spirit even after unspeakable horror and trauma. How very different the lives of Francine and Doug could have been with loving, engaged parents like Mickey was lucky to have. It really matters who our parents are, but even with cruel, selfish, monstrous parents, it’s still possible to overcome hardships and adversities.

Simply Lies. ..the worst book I have ever read, Struggled to finish And I have purchased and read every book Baldacci has written! Especially disappointed because I had been so anticipating it’s release.

Minus 2 stars. Unreadable. Idiotic plot, unrealistic characters, drivel for dialogue. Total disappointment. A must skip…

Simply Lies. Disappointing. Tedious read. Story not engaging.

Not one of Baldacci’s best novels. This book was slow and the ending was not dramatic at all. The book lacked substance

Outside the Comfort Zone. Interesting story that put readers and the Author outside the Baldacci comfort zone. While the tech and crypto detail is intriguing (Author did much research), it didn’t necessarily move the story along. The real story is found in the two main characters and their ever growing connection. Still, an enjoyable read wrapped with dark world tech.

New team/ new thrillers. Excellent

Tried too hard. Too convoluted & confusing. Lost me half way through.

Simply Lies. I enjoyed reading this story. It was very interesting as are all his books. Can’t wait for the next one.

Simply Lies. The book is unreadable. What a ridiculous plot. How did the story outline ever make it past an editor. It is Simply Terrible.

Simply Lies. David Baldacci. Mickey Gibson is an ex cop, ex detective and a single mother two. She works at home an an investigator for a firm called ProEye chasing down criminals online. Suddenly a mysterious phone call changes her life dramatically.A women who goes by the name pf Clarisse, but that is actually a lie. She goes by many names and is a master of disguise. Unknown to Micky, Clarissa whose first is actually Francine has been involved. In her life for a long time. A masterfully written tale!! Enjoyed immensely!!

Yay! Another hit for Baldacci. Great book!!

Simply lies. Total crap….

Should have believed others. I’ve enjoyed many Baldacci’s. This really IS junk.

Don’t waste your money. Robotic characters. Random events. Disconnected storyline. Boring. Way beneath Baldacci. Probably written by a flunky.

Unrealistic and frustrating. If someone was running after you with a knife and there was a police station in front of you but a total stranger says “no run into that dark abandoned building instead ; its safer there” which place would you run to? Yeah its like that.

Disappointing!. I’ve read most of his books and loved the King/Maxwell & Puller series. Simply Lies has too many characters and make to labor to keep reading hoping for it to get better. The ending is very predictable! I would have given it a “2” star, but gave Balducci a pass based on his prior successes.

Least favorite Baldacci read. I am a huge fan and this was not what I was expecting. Very hard to get into and messy

Awful. I’m a big David Baldacci fan, but this is just an awful book. A tedious plot line with hum-drum characters. Not an exciting read. Pick another mystery.

Rare miss for Baldacci.. One of my favorite authors, but this was tedious & frantic. Great idea with such possibilities that just didn’t work. Didn’t read like a Baldacci. Disappointed.

I love balducci but…. The worst balducci book I ever read! You need some of your great old characters with a new story! Sorry

Fast and furious. Rapid read with some twists predictable, others not.

Apt title. Fun read. Intriguing new characters. Ready for the next story!

Mindless summer read. Good beach book Not up to the authors usual standard Simplistic ending

Fine book.. Fast interesting read.

Decent offering. Kept me guessing

Simply Lies. Very disappointing from David how corruption escalated and existed everywhere along with abuse of young children by their parents within the protection of federal agencies like WITSEC, FBI and Marshals M LAS VEGAS

The title didn’t reveal stories intent. Intriguing and deep thinking. Almost seemed factual and not fiction.

Simply Lies. Choppy and lousy storyline.

Simply Lies:. The most unbelievable scenario ever written. Simply laughable premise that gets even more absurd as the plot develops. Major disappointment.
