It also stands as an excellent companion to Scott Freeman's "Midnight Riders". Gov't Mule fans are sure to enjoy the chapter about the "Birth Of The Mule." We also get a few more clues as to what caused the premature demise of bass giant Allen Woody. Also covers every line up of the band in rich detail. If you are an ABB devote or a causal fan you will love this book. 5 out of 5,

Excellent ABB Book. Being a fan since the early 70s, I connected with the way this book is laid out and really loved the interview style of band members and crew giving their recollection of events. Couldn’t put the book down. It could be the definitive Allman Brothers Band book. Perfect for long time fans as well as people interested who might not have been there.

Required reading for any ABB fan. A very enjoyable read. I especially appreciated the fact that the author allowed for multiple points of view on any given subject.

One Way Out. Good read, particularly for the long time fan who is also a musician. Lots of interesting things about how Duane instinctively constructed his perfect band, how the signature harmony guitar lines were developed, the massive void left by his death, and the musically logical bend toward country as Dickie Betts asserted himself. Then the tale is an all too common one of substance abuse and band politics. It's truly remarkable they've held together so long. The author does a good job of staying out of the way, letting the protagonists tell the story.
