Violence. I’m addicted to it. It’s how I feel alive. It’s the only thing that’s real any more.

And now I have to sit around and discuss it like it’s physics or calculus. I can’t do it. I can’t pretend that it’s some sterile academic topic. Violence isn’t sterile. It isn’t calm. It’s pulsing. It’s alive.

It’s my drug.

Until I met Abby, I never wanted anything beyond the next fight. Never considered that I might finally find a way back to the land of the living.

Now? Now I find myself dreaming of a woman with golden eyes.

But I can never be with her. Because I am not whole. And I never will be again.

But I cannot stay away. And loving her might finally be what breaks me.

Love can conquer anything. After facing years of abuse with her stepfather and then an ex-boyfriend, Abby was determined it would not happen to her again. So she is very apprehensive on romance and wants to find someone normal. Definitely not an ex-Army guy who looks like hell after being in a bar fight and has eyes that show he has issues. Josh had two places he went to all the time to find solace in his life, the gym where he would run himself ragged and a local bar run by a fellow ex-Soldier. The later caused more problems because it seemed like drinking was the only way he could make it through the night and face the college preppies next day. One evening after being kicked out of the bar yet again for brawling, he stumbled across Abby needing help dealing with some guys who do not understand the word no. While they can both feel the atrraction neither is ready for it, they go their separate ways before it goes too far. LIttle did they realize that it would not be the only time they met, it happened again in class. Josh took the chance to sit by her and she did not have a problem with it. She seems to be able to calm him down during class when a fellow student keeps getting a rise out of him. But both have demons in their past and to keep on going they would have to work them out. In order to do that, they would need to do it together, which meant they had to tell each other everything, absolutely everything. Once again Jessica Scott has slammed a home run with this book. I will admit that it took me longer to read this one than usual but that was because it was so intense. Sometimes I needed to put it down for a bit before returning. Then it was over and I couldn’t believe it. Dealing with PTSD is something anyone can have to do, anywhere. Everyone deals with it in their own way because often that is their only choice as there is no one there to help, especially those in the military.

My Brothers Keeper. Break My Fall ( Falling Book 2) Jessica Scott This novel was a very emotional read for me. Two young people, one an Army vet, the other a young woman who has escaped a terrifying childhood, both trying to find some light in their darkness. It breaks your heart, a little crack at a time. But at it's conclusion your spirits are lifted. Josh Douglas is going to a prestigious university thanks to his G.I. Bill. He hasn't been back in the states for very long, but has decided booze and bruising physical activity is better than the mind numbing drugs the Dr.'s offered. According to the V.A. he has used up his allotted visits, but he is a long way from overcoming his PTSD. He hasn't made many friends, but has a kind of relationship with the owner of the local bar, The Pint. Eli is a fellow vet who opened his bar so there would be a place for vets, damaged and otherwise, to meet. Unfortunately Josh has a history of blowing off steam with a fight or two way too often for Eli's comfort. Going home after one of these very satisfying poundings he comes across a beautiful young woman being hassled by two men. Even though she looks like she is holding her own, he steps into her space. She is grateful, and he is immediately afraid of the sudden feelings of protection and attraction crashing over him. He is damaged, he should warn her, he should never see her again, she could never understand. No one does. Abby Hilliard is going to school supporting herself by waitressing. Her best friend, Graham is a bartender and they lean on each other for support. She has scars both on her skin and in her heart, the most recent from her ex-boyfriend, who insisted he loved her, but spent most of his time trying to change her. She realizes the very sexy, gorgeous student sitting next to her in class, is her rescuer from the other night. She feels an immediate pull to his brooding eyes, his quiet danger and the sadness she feels surrounding him. But relationships are too hard, too much work. What starts as a casual friendship grows into something they both desperately need, but are terrified of. Ms. Scott again brings us a story of the trauma these young men and women in today's military face during their deployments and then at home. The need to drink, do drugs or end it all is so often the heartbreaking decision their faced with. This is a dark, beautiful and very sensual romance. All the more believable because the writer is an Army officer herself and spent time in war zones with her husband having to leave her children behind. Thank you Jessica Scott, for your service, and your novels that dig into our hearts and souls. I received this ARC from the publisher and author for an honest review. Pat Fordyce.

OMG!. Ive read & loved all this author's fiction, the characters have always drawn me into the story, and I couldn't wait for the next. Josh & Abby's story is a little different, but in the way you're so involved you don't want the story to ever end. I felt so invested in their story. I think this is the book the author almost didn't finish. I know the emotion I felt reading...I can only imagine how gut wrenching it had to be to write. BRAVO, Jessica Scott.

Heartwrenching & Hopeful!. The second book in Jessica Scott's "Falling" series is just as thought provoking, heart wrenching and hopeful as the first book in this series. Josh & Abby come into their relationship with their own issues. Watching how they support one another and bring each other out of a dark place makes a truly wonderful love story. The author's ability to make you feel what this young war vet is dealing with once he is home, trying to attend college courses and develop a life after war really touches me. Wonderful story!

Break My Fall. Very dark and deep. Not a happy book. Won't read it again. I usually love Jessica's books.

Break My Fall. Every new book from Jessica takes me on a journey. Sometimes the journey is difficult, but there are many more glimmers of healing and love.

Another amazing book by Jessica Scott. Break My Fall is the second book in the Falling series but you don’t need to have read that book first; this is a stand-alone story and there is no cliffhanger. This book just about ripped my heart out. It’s darker than most of Jessica’s other stories but, like her other books, it seems so real and believable. As I’ve said before, I think her Army service brings real credibility to her stories. Josh has recently left the Army and is enrolled in a university “where the poor kids drive Mercedes and the really rich ones have drivers” and he feels out of place. Abby has dark skin and curly hair; she’s working her way through school and feels equally out of place. The two meet when Josh sees Abby being harassed by a couple of jerks as she walks home one night. Abby: "Are you my white knight in shining armor?" Josh: "I'm nobody's hero." Josh is haunted by his experiences in war. He hates that he misses the violence of it and feels like a deviant because of it. While the doctors have told him there is nothing physically wrong with him, nothing everything is working right. He can’t imagine that anyone would want him, he’s too broken. Abby has scars, both physical and emotional, from her childhood. She is still reeling from a recent breakup; she doesn’t want to start a new relationship. When Josh rescues her she doesn’t want to be attracted to him but she can’t seem to help herself. This book deals with a side of war that we don’t read about in the papers and, even though this is fiction, it feels “real” to me. Josh’s story is heartbreaking but Jessica Scott tells it well and I was invested in his character right from the beginning. Abby’s story is also compelling and how she and Josh navigate a relationship around both of their issues was a story I didn’t want to put down. Warning: this story contains some violent scenes and alcohol abuse. I received an ARC from the author in exchange for my review. *****Reviewed for Xtreme-Delusions*****
