Tremendous. A fantastically, wonderfully, tremendously BORING novel. I made it half way through the third chapter and couldn’t continue. The most interesting character was Rose (a minor supporting character). Besides that the main characters were so agonisingly pathetic that you actually wished they would just go their separate ways.....

Awesome read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Loved the characters. I literally couldn’t put it down.

Drama filled. Pamela Clare has beautifully described the town and the inhabitants. Who would not like to live where everyone cares and is there for you in troubled times. Austin and Lexi's love story is filled with sexy chemistry, true friendships, family hurt, and suspense. A romance that has it all even a HEA.

Colorado High Country. This is the first book in a new series written by Ms. Clare. Well known and honored for her historical romance and romantic suspense (The I-Team Series) this is a contemporary romance that is set in the little mountain town of Scarlet Springs, Colorado. It centers around a group of men and women in Search and Rescue, Firefighters and Forest Rangers ; their adventures, their families and their lovers. Austin Taylor grew up in Scarlet Springs and other than his time in college he has never left. He is a forest ranger and volunteers for the search and rescue team. He loves climbing and pushing himself physically as much as he can. Twelve years ago his teenage heart was shattered. He was a kid......no big deal. He's moved past it and is enjoying his life with his puppy Mac and his work, friends and family. That is until, suddenly, he sees Lexi Jewell, the source of his heartbreak, standing in front of him. He immediately decides he won't let her under his skin, this time. But after seeing her a few times, and sharing a very hot kiss, he realizes the old feelings are stirring, and she seems to feel the same. Lexi Jewell is escaping Chicago, a wonderful job at a CPA firm gone bad and her life as she knows it, to return to Scarlet Springs, help her Dad with his B&B and decide her next step. She knew she would run into Austin, she just didn't think it would be as she was heading into town! Lexi's Dad is drinking heavily, acting crazy, and her step mom has left him. He is in danger of losing the Inn. First step of many, is to get him to stop drinking. Lexi gets involved with the S & R team after she is asked to look over their financials. A previous employee appears to have been stealing. She enjoys the work, the camaraderie of the team, and the new friendship she is forming with Austin. After a hot night in the local pub with Austin they are rethinking their relationship, maybe "friends with benefits?" The benefits are very nice. Lexi still insists she will be returning to Chicago, but finds herself making excuses to stay in Scarlet Springs and with Austin. Lexi is spending a lot of time with the team, the day to day rescues and sometimes life threatening climbs they do make her realize how dangerous their work is, bringing her closer to Austin and not just as friends. Little does she know some of the danger is surrounding her too. Ms. Clare's descriptions of the mountains, the climbing and rescue efforts will leave you holding your breath. Very sexy scenes, humor and even a little suspense will keep you turning pages. I couldn't put this book down. I'm looking forward to reading more about Scarlett Springs and it's everyday hero's. Barely Breathing ~ Thumbs Up!. I found myself enjoying this book and the witty dialogue between the characters. In my opinion, the characters had depth and I could identify with them from an everyday life point of view. Give it a try, I think it’s worth the read!

Great story. Lexi returns to Scarlet Springs 12 years after leaving to help her eccentric father work things out with his wife and keep the family B&B. She is out of a job after her friends and co-workers turned against her for filing a harassment claim against her boss. Lexi knows she is eventually going to run into Austin, her first everything, since Scarlet is a small town but hopes she can put it off for a few days. After seeing a puppy stuck on a cliff by the road she stops and calls the fire department to rescue the puppy, a friend from high school is the fire chief, Eric Hawke, and then Austin pulls up in his Mountain Ranger truck. Lexi is shocked to see Austin, and immediately the past comes rushing back to her. Austin hasn't forgiven Lexi for breaking his heart the summer before she left for college. He knows she is going to go back to Chicago the first chance she gets leaving him behind, but he can't help himself when it comes to her. Austin is a Mountain Ranger and on the Search and Rescue Team. He tries to avoid Lexi until the SAR team needs her CPA skills after they discover one of their own has been stealing from them. After a tough day Lexi and Austin end up together and begin reconnecting, but try to remain emotionally distant because Lexi's plan remains to go back to Chicago. Danger lurks in the small down and everything comes crashing down, its up to Austin and the SAR team to make sure that he doesn't lose her in the end. This was such a good book, I couldn't put it down. Austin and Lexi's relationship grows at a realistic pace throughout the book. They're a fun, dynamic, and steamy couple. These two are one of my favorite couples that I've read lately. I really enjoyed Austin sending Eric to pick up Lexi's friend from Chicago at the airport letting him think that Vic (Victoria) was a guy. I really hope the next book is about them, that'll be a fun story. This is a great read and I highly recommend it. I want to learn how to rock climb now. Charming. Delightful story about coming to terms with your past so that you can see your real future.

LOVED IT!. My new favorite series! I normally go for standalone romances, and while these could be standalones if read at different times, I am so happy that I gave this book a chance. I can’t wait to read the next one. Had the perfect amount of laughter, love, and suspense. I especially loved the element of folklore that was thrown in. Don’t pass this book up.
