Phantom by Ted Bell Book Summary
“[Hawke is] a secret agent who takes you into the danger zone with a ballsy wit that had me hooked.”
—Vince Flynn
“Ted Bell puts a capital A in adventure….Commander Bond might choke on his martini next to Bell’s superlative Alex Hawke.”
—Madison County Herald
Ted Bell’s remarkable literary creation, counterspy Alex Hawke, has been called, “strong, shrewd, and savvy, with an aplomb not seen since James Bond” (NPR). He’s back in the explosive blockbuster Phantom, on a breathtaking hunt for a madman about to unleash a terrifying new Artificial Intelligence-powered super weapon on the world. Another superb espionage thriller by a true, New York Times bestselling master of the fictional spy game, Bell’s Phantom explores a dark side of science while delivering non-stop action, as Hawke races across the globe in order to prevent a coming apocalypse—and the millions of fans of Bell’s Warlord, Tsar, and Spy will be breathless every perilous step along the way.

Best Hawke book yet!!!!. This is Ted Bell's BEST Hawke book to date!! I, for one, simply can not wait for his follow-on! Well done, Mr. Bell. Well done indeed!! indeed! And I thank you for the warning of what lies ahead for us all. John Zimmerman
A good read. A well paced action thriller that I couldn't put down. At times it was really hard to believe the plot but that never stopped me from rushing to get to the next page so I could find out what happened to Lord Hawke and his merry band of men. Well worth the time.
Fun read. A fun read but definitely not the best novel by Ted Bell. Fiction is best at times when there is a thread of believability to the story but this story line is a bit too far flung.
Phantom. Good book. Not the best in this series but definitely a worthwhile read.
Phantom. Mr. Bell thank you for an exciting and stimulating story line. Thought Perseus would have anticipated a sea floor attack and prevented it. Nevertheless your theme of cyber warfare was an eye opener and timely. Our local newspaper today had an article disclosing the USA was the creator the Stuxnet worm. Scary stuff. Ignorance is bliss. Your story begs the question, do we (the public)want machines to run our lives? Who or what controls whom? No question we live in exciting times with technology leading the way but at what expense, now and in the future.
Disappointed. The premise of this book is excellent but the story is laden with distracting mistakes and inconsistencies. For example, on one page Hawke's yacht is at 10 knots and on the next he says it is at 15. That in and of itself is minor but the book has several such editing mistakes. The biggest issue I had was toward the conclusion of the book. The "villain" is an amazingly powerful artificial intelligent computer. During the book he did such amazing things as taking control of a U.S. piloted fighter courting Air Force One and despite the efforts of the pilot the computer fires upon the President's plane. Later, when our hero gets into the lair of this beast and talks to it, he at one point says to it that he and his two friends would step into the corridor to discuss a point in private. So we are to believe that it could reach out to anywhere in the world to take full control of almost anything, could cause people to commit suicide, but could not hear a conversation held outside its door. In the end this book felt as if it were hastily written and poorly edited.
Not the best. Not one of his best. Phantom is borderline sci-fi rather than the previous action packed story. Hopefully Mr. Bell will come back to excellent story line for Alex Hawke in his next book.

One of his best. Great read, especially if you're already a Hawke fan. One of the best in the series in my opinion.
Not his best work. This felt rushed, the premise was good but the pace of the story seemed to trip in some areas sacrificing detail and character development in a rush for action and violence. I am a big fan of the first three books, but this one left me feeling that it was hurried to fulfill a deadline.
