Quite remarkable. I have never read something quite like this. The images that are formed from these beautiful words are fantastic. This is truly a wonderful work and I’m glad to have stumbled upon it. A must read.

Ended quietly. Book review: In The Quiet by Eliza Henry Jones Ended quietly.. It's like reading glimpses of someone's vision. It gets confusing and sometimes I have to read what I read twice or thrice to make sure I understand what I read. It's my first book on loss, grief tied in with family, marriage and children/tweens and young adult. As the story progressed I got to know how a person can be gripped so hard by loss that there's no lifeline to rescue them. They just had to find it in themselves and sometimes through others. I wasn't bored per say but I wasn't enthusiastic about the story. It's sad. But I couldn't stop reading. I just had to know what happened to who. Cate had a full life up until her illness caught up to her. She had a husband who was the ideal father compared to her own and knew how great he was. Even in the afterlife she still felt what she felt for him when she was alive. Her twins, complete opposites almost. But Cate raised them all well, making sure they can care for themselves and others and were responsible on the farm. Jessa was that wild card, the young baby every parent n others would see to be spoiled rotten. She was strong, her character was strong and for her age, was written in well. There's many characters in this story and each had their own story while Cate visited each in her memory. It's a good thing she wasn't lingering too long and finally rested in peace.

Three stars. Characters and storyline good. Did seem to drag on, could have been written I less words I felt. All in all a good read though.

In the quiet. Stunning - an extraordinarily insightful novel. Complementary and complex characters that hold true from the first page to the last. I loved this book - can't believe it's her first - will wait eagerly for the many more I hope she writes.

A refreshing read on a dark topic.. 'In the Quiet' by Eliza Henry Jones, is the thought provoking story of the grieving Carlton family after the death of horse loving Cate. Written from the perspective of Cate Calton after she's died, 'In the Quiet' follows her observations and memories of her family and close friends until she fades out after her ashes are buried. It shows how her twin sons Cameron & Raferty, daughter Jessa and husband Bass struggle and finally 'move on', how she remembers their lives, glimpses into all her struggles and joys from when she was alive, how she remembers feeling, what she regrets not doing and even how she wants to help those still alive yet unable to. I found 'In the Quiet' easy to read, (when it wasn't making me cry!) As Eliza has written it in a refreshingly different, chapterless way that's realistic and simple for readers to easily follow. As a result I would highly recommend 'In the Quiet' by Eliza Henry Jones to any teen/adult.
