Sisters. Strangers. Survivors.
More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia’s teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that's cruelly ripped open when Claire's husband is killed.
The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago . . . and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.
Powerful, poignant, and utterly gripping, packed with indelible characters and unforgettable twists, Pretty Girls is a masterful novel from one of the finest writers working today.

- Pretty girls5 star

Loved it!

- Couldn’t give this book enough stars.5 star

Great book all the way through.

- Disturbing...3 star

Very well written but I honestly did not feel comfortable reading before bed because of the graphic details. This book literally kept me awake all night!

- Loved it!5 star

Kept me intrigued the entire time, loved every word!

- Well written3 star

Well written but a horrible subject to write about. Quite disturbing

- Great book!5 star

Not for the faint of heart, but what a suspenseful read! I didn't want to put this book down. Some parts were hard to read, so I skipped over them. Great thriller!

- Disturbing4 star

Amazing book but highly disturbingb

- Too graphic3 star

Suspenseful, kept me guessing, but too graphic and too psychotic of a plot to recommend to others.

- Pretty Girls5 star

Excellent book. Great read. Captivating.

- Not good1 star

Couldn’t finish this mess.

- Read this book!5 star

Loved this book! Must read!

- Quite possibly the scariest book I’ve ever read2 star

Do not read this book if you can’t handle a horrifying psycho thriller that details rape, torture, and murder. It is suspenseful and a page turner, but only to find yourself left with an eerie, uneasy feeling. I was able to finish the book, but I probably could have gone through life without reading it.

This was an amazing book, written with so much feeling, couldn’t put it down....I never rate a book 5⭐️ but this definitely was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

- Perfectly flawed4 star

A face paced and exciting read. Graphic, yes. Heart breaking, yes. But also an excellent representation of true character and how merciless people can really be. SPOILER: My only issue was Paul’s “fake death”, it’s unbelievability cheapened the otherwise great storyline.

- Disturbingly twisted.. obsessed!5 star

I loved this book!! One of the most twisted pieces I’ve read that really captivated my attention.. as soo. As I finished I sent it to all of my closest friends (aka the crazy ones)

- WOW! Terrific read5 star

I couldn’t put this book down. It’s nice for victims to serve justice

- So twisted but so good5 star

Need another book exactly like this 😍

- Way too dark and gruesome1 star

So, so dark. It was horrible and I wish I could un-read it.

- Pretty Girls1 star

Did not like this book at all. Way too graphic and disturbing.

- Heartbreakingly wonderful5 star

Not for the faint of heart, but worth the disturbance. If you’ve lost a family member in a traumatic way it grips you from understanding the characters pain and longing to know the truth.

- Disturbing. Twisted. LOVE!5 star

Absolute love for this book. Idk if it’s the disturbance of it or the twisted and flawed characters but I love this book. If anyone asks what they should read, this is always my go to book. I love the reactions I receive from people who read it.

- Pretty Girls1 star

The only thing missing from this mess is an evil twin. So bad

- Graphic yes, disturbing yes, but that’s not why the low review.2 star

The low review is because the writing is just not good. The story is absurdly outlandish and so CSI: Miami sequel. Cheap thriller I would have expected to see on the free reads list. I just couldn’t take the writing seriously. It was way too corny and cheap if you know what I mean. She could have gone so many routes with this story and written something with substance. Instead I got something with a James Bond style villain. Stupid read.

- Necrophilia3 star

Necrophilia, that is what this book is about. Disgusting. Well written and suspenseful? Yes. Disturbing and vile? Also, yes. Very disappointed as this WAS one of my favorite authors.

- Violent and upsetting1 star

Very violent book with upsetting and disturbing imagery. Hard to imagine how one might even think of such a story.

- Page turner!4 star

This book was a page turner and I couldn’t wait to finish it, however by the end of the book it started to fill like it was dragged out way to long, at first the plot was great but as the book got closer to the end the author started adding more and more to the plot to where it was almost overdone, also I could have done without the graphic violence and had to skip over some of those parts that I felt was way to detailed. But overall I did enjoy reading the book it kept me guessing till the end and was actually surprised at how the book ended, so good book if you are into mystery’s and don’t mind some overdone violent scenes..

- Absolutely the most disgusting book I’ve ever read1 star

Words can not express how disgusting this book is. Well written yes, but it actually made me sick! I couldn’t finish it. Not worth the $3.00 I spent on it! Do not read it unless you’d like nightmares!

- Gore for sake of gore1 star

Please don’t spend money to read about women being killed just for the point of killing women with no lesson learned/plot.

- 🤭🤭🤭5 star

This book is soooooooo good. But definitely be prepared for some really F***d up stuff. I couldn’t put the book down and I loved the ending! This is the second book I’ve read by this Author and she does not disappoint. I will be reading more of her work!!!!

- Too much2 star

It was really engaging but, honestly, I wish I hadn’t read it. It was too graphic and disturbing. I would read other books by the author - I liked the style, didn’t love the subject...

- Excellent read!5 star

Gripping read, very dark and graphic (you’ve been warned) I completely devoured this book!

- Pretty Girls5 star

Could not put this book down. Well written full of suspense. Interesting characters and interactions.

- Fanfriggentastic5 star

Finally, a novel that ripped me out of my reality. This story sucked me into a world of horror, so real I could not only picture it in my mind but feel through my skin and taste in my mouth. Once I had it figured out I was violently jolted sideways into another direction. Emotionally drained I am left contemplating life, lost life, and trying to figure out why I'm bawling. Wow!!!

- Could not stop reading!5 star

I got sucked in right away and used every spare minute to finish this book. Now I need to decide which one to read next! This was my first read of any of her books!

- Best book I've read in 2 years.5 star

Just read it. Keeps you on the edge of your seat and breaks your heart. However, this is not the book you recommend to your mother because she may have a heart attack. Truly loved reading this book and the very last chapter made me cry. Hauntingly beautiful

- Tedious2 star

I thought I would enjoy this book but the characters were clichés and stereotypical. The pace of the story picked up a bit two thirds of the way into the book. But it was still a tedious read.

- Must read!5 star

I couldn't put this book down!!!

- Pretty girls3 star

This recording is so damaged that it needs to be thrown away, not sold. There are parts so damaged you can't even hear the story. The story is good although it seems to drag on too long

- Pretty Girls5 star

Gripping, suspenseful, full of twists and turns I didnot see coming. Disturbing plot, extremely well written, well developed characters. Listened to it on a road trip and had difficulty getting out of the car!

- Page turner5 star

Lots of twists and turns. I hate when books are compared to Gone Girl or Girl on The Train and they don't deliver the same suspense, but this book delivered.

- Page turner, not for faint of heart4 star

Certainly page-turning; well written, psychological mystery for 2016. Looked forward to picking it up the next day, but certainly had some uncomfortable scenes-maybe made more difficult by having one little girl at home. I would recommend with some caution if you are faint of heart.

- Pretty Gil's1 star

I listened to the unabridged audiobook during a long road trip. It started out interestingly enough, but descended into graphic, ridiculously implausible scenarios. It was disgusting and it actually became tiresome and boring. I would give it zero stars but it won't let me post without at least one.

- Thrilling finish4 star

First read of this author. Suspenseful story started slowly; difficult to follow plot and characters. But, staying with the book pays big dividends as the author builds intrigue and suspense to a very satisfying ending. Stay with the novel and you'll be as thrilled as I was.

- Good Book5 star

I never thought I'd enjoy another of her books without her usual cast of characters in them, but I must admit that this was a great story & a fast read; couldn't put it down at times. The topic may be a bit dark for some, but I highly recommend this book.

- BEST YET!5 star

A stand alone thriller ... so Intense and captivating, I consumed the book in three day. Masterfully written. Highly recommend!!!

- Awesome Read5 star

First time reading Karen Slaughter. Took a chance on this one after running out of Eric Jerome Dickey again! (Sigh) Pretty Girls was an exciting, exhilarating and thoroughly enjoyable read. Couldn't put it down. Now I have two favorite authors. 😊

- Good story, slow pace, very graphic3 star

First, it is important to know that this book features a lot of graphic violence against women - detailed descriptions of rape and murder. Had I read this book rather than listened to the audiobook I would have definitely chosen to skim those (numerous) sections. Next, while I thought this was a good concept I found the pacing rather slow and labored. Also, the last few chapters seem to be an attempt to wrap up a lot of loose threads. While it was a good concept, I'm not sure it was worth the 20 hour investment.

- 2 - 3 stars3 star

The first third (to half) of this book is really good, and really intriguing. Everything after the 'major plot twist', the bottom falls out. Some of it is just ridiculous, and I found it very hard to believe that anyone would react, or act, in the way these women do toward the end of the novel (mainly, Claire). Because I don't want to reveal the novel's secrets, suffice it to say, it's an interesting, and very dark story, but you will need to suspend with emotional rationality while reading.

- Page Turner5 star

Got through this one quick, good weekend read!

- Pretty Girls5 star

Great book, I like everything written by this author. Book held me captive!

- Great book!5 star

Suspenseful and great plot. I love all of Karin's books and this one didn't disappoint. Loved it!

- Pathetic1 star

The first few chapters are fine. Then the story descends into an inane plot from which it never recovers. Don't waste your time or money

- Not her best!2 star

I have always looked forward to Karin Slaughter books because of the mystery, the characters, the plots. But this one was too disgusting and predictable. Great story about the love between sisters!

- Pretty Girls3 star

The tale of 3 sisters, one who was taken yrs ago and the other two who've grown apart. The tale of how those two and their parents survive with the loss. As a father of 3 girls myself, this story touched my heart. Especially the dads diary. Having said that I think women will enjoy this book more than men as it is mainly centered on the lives of the surviving sisters. This book does drag on about what the characters are thinking and feeling. Having said that, the ending was worth the tedious road to get there.

- Disturbing at times3 star

Brutally violent but the whole story line was violent and disturbing. Other than that it was well written but I’m not so sure I would recommend it. I like a twisted plot and a good whodunit but the gore? And violence? Not so much.

- Great read!!!4 star

I loved this novel! The suspense was so intense I literally felt nervous as I was reading! Some parts are unbelievably graphic and made me a bit uneasy. The only complaint I had was my growing irritation with the main character Clare! Towards the end of the book I had an overwhelming urge to shake her lol but I'm sure that was the authors intention. This was my first Karin Slaughter read and I am going to be reading more of her stories!!!

- Fantastic page turner5 star

Loved it! So unpredictable. I use to live in Dunwoody so it was fun to read about all the places in Atlanta & know where they actually were. This was my first Slaughter book and now I can't wait to download another on.

- Intense page turner!5 star

First time reading a book from this author. Didn't disappoint. It's been a long time since I've read a book this good. Look forward to my next Slaughter book!

- Not for the sensitive soul3 star

This book started off good but it was hard to read the graphic details. I had to put the book down and watch the Disney channel to get the images out of my head. I will the ending was good even though it was unrealistic.

- Non stop Page turner!!!5 star

I thought I've read some pretty thrilling books but this by far has been the most! I literally could not put the book down! Lots of twist and turns, however towards the end of the book I expected to find out more about the other characters. But other than that, awesome read!

- Panic !!3 star

This was the darkest book I have ever read. This book did keep your interest from start to finish but there were some parts that were unnecessary, just to fill pages. I literally had 2 panic attacks while reading this book!! I thought it was just too horrific & graphic

- Pretty Girls5 star

Great read! Scary and thrilling. Best book I have read in awhile.

- Preposterous1 star

Well written but so unbelievable, it lost its appeal early on. I hate to give up on a book, but this one I hated to pick up to see which absurd plot twist would surface next. Back to my tried and true crime writers. This one was sick.
