False Memory by Meli Raine Book Summary

It all started with the bereavement flowers with my name on them.

Not the best way to wake up, right? I work in a flower shop. I know a funeral arrangement when I see one.

I know a killer when I see one, too. And one is standing in my hospital room right now, straight behind the man who saved my life.

I can’t tell anyone the truth, because that’s the fastest way to really die. So I do the next best thing. I “lose” my memory.

I fake my amnesia.

Pretending not to remember a brutal attempted murder has its perks. The killer is backing down, spending less time around me, loosening the noose.

The less I claim to recall, the more my rescuer, Duff, works to help me “remember.” I hate lying to him.

But he doesn’t understand that my memory is dangerous. To me. And to him.

Fooling everyone isn’t easy. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

Except it’s starting to look like I’ve been fooling myself.

In more ways than one.

Read Book 1 in the newest series from USA Today bestselling author Meli Raine.

“…intrigue and dark humor on display in this thriller…”

While the immediate—and more compelling—tension in Raine’s (A Shameless Little Bet, 2018, etc.) heart-pumping series opener comes from Lily’s constant proximity to her would-be killer, the action takes place against a backdrop of secret government scandals.

Fortunately, Lily’s voice is captivating, wry, and tough enough to sell this thriller. The novel ends with a cliffhanger that startles, if only because readers will have become so attached to Lily.

NOTHING False about this Book! By Cincy Kid 68!. This author is sooo gifted, her dialogue brings us as the reader right into the flesh of her characters. Very intense, full of suspense and can’t wait to move on to the next book. I’ve read many of her Stories- they are ALL exceptional. Thanks- JB

False memory is amazing!. Meli Raine has done it again! False memory is the start in the newest trilogy, this one following Lily who was shot in the head when mistaken for Jane, secret daughter of a presidential candidate. As the book begins Lily has woken up from a 14 month coma only to realize that the man who shot her is now her bodyguard. She is forced to pretend amnesia concerning her shooting in an attempt to keep herself and those she loves safe. But she isn’t fooling everyone can Duff her bodyguard be trusted or is he secretly working with her would be killer. And the longer he works for her the closer they grow, can she trust him with the truth or is he just a part of the conspiracy? Suspenseful and action packed this book is a spectacular start to Lily’s story❤️

Oh! My!. Lily has come out of a 14 month coma after being mistakenly shot in the head. She slowly starts to piece things together the man who tries to kill her appears—one of the men on her security team. To stay alive, she fakes amnesia about the shooting. She doesn’t know who can trust, not even Duff or Jane, the intended victim. This tale was full of suspense and twists and a very real feeling of what a survivor of such violence would go through to recovery. It also has a a growing connection and attraction between Lily and Duff spices with uncertainty and distrust. Can’t wait for the next one!

Good book. It’s a good book. Even though it says book 1 it’s part of a bigger series

!!. Soooo good! All I can say I’ve read the first book in a matter of days and the second in just ONE! Moving on the the third now I can’t wait to see where this story goes

An exciting start to a new series. I had previously read the Shameless and Harmless series and loved them. They are intriguing, drought with danger, deception, the chance for romance... so much emotion to the characters. So when I heard the next series building on these other two was coming out I couldn’t wait to read. I started reading yesterday and finished yesterday because I didn’t want to put the book down. There is a cliffhanger at the end but I expected that going in. As with the others this will be one you’ll want to read in order, and if you haven’t already, I would recommend reading the other two first. You’ll get more out of this series if you do. There is a different feel to this story because Lily is trapped in her own body after a case of mistaken identity in the final book of the Harmless series left her with a gunshot wound to the head. Danger is always lurking and Lily struggles to know who to trust. Pretending to have amnesia is the only way to survive... but doing so is fraught with challenges. There is so much emotion to this story and I really enjoy how Meli Raine develops the storyline and characters in her stories. Can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Awesome start!. I am such a Meli fan! I love the start to this series! You don’t have to read Meli’s other series before this one but you get a good background of some characters in previous Meli books.

False Memories. A real page turner but was a bit disappointed with the ending.

Like adventure. Such a real life situation that keeps you guessing all the way till the end.

Romantic suspense that packs a punch. I’ve read all of Meli Raine’s romantic suspense trilogies and each one keeps getting better. The twists and turns never fail to make me sit up and say, “OMG! Never saw THAT coming!” Readers who don’t usually read romantic suspense are encouraged to give these books (and this author) a try because the suspense is secondary to the emotional depth and complex characterization that make the cast of characters come alive.

WOW. Just WOW! False Memory is book #1 in the False series by Meli Raine. Meli has a way of writing that makes you keep reading until the book is finished. Note that in true Meli writing fashion, this book ends in a cliffhanger! False Memory is told by Lily's point of view. She awakens from a coma after being shot 14 months ago, when she was mistaken for her friend Jane. Lily quickly realizes that she has to pretend that she doesn't remember who shot her, if she lets on that she remembers, she will not survive, as her fake amnesia is the only thing that is keeping her alive. "I know I know. But I don't know what I don't know. That's what will get me killed. For real." This is a fast paced read and will leave you anxiously waiting for book 2! In book 2, will Lily finally admit to Duff that she's been faking her amnesia since she woke from her coma? "When were you going to tell me you've been faking the amnesia, Lily? Before or after I sleep with you?"

Not my cup of cinnamon-almond milk latte. I found Ms. Raine’s attempt a using a combination of deep POV and unreliable narrator to be, at best, pretentious. At worst, this book has so many plot holes that it barely holds together. The premise is interesting, and I really wanted to like it. I finished it, hoping all along that it would come together in a way that justified its promise. My opinion of it isn’t helped, at all, by the fact that it’s just another cash-grabbing trilogy that refuses to provide any resolution unless you buy the next book, and then the next one. Seriously, I’d rather just pay the $12 up front and get the whole story. Instead, this piecemeal, patchwork approach has me so annoyed by it that I just don’t care.

What a great book!. A roller coaster ride from the start. Couldn’t put this down. I loved this book. Can’t wait to pickup the next one.

Amnesia or Protection?. Fast paced thriller that leaves you wanting more of the story. I really enjoyed the author’s use of one word to ramp up the intensity of figuring out what’s happening. Does Lily know who tried to kill her?

Fantastic Series Start!. This was a FANTASTIC start to a series! This book was something different… but definitely in a good way. I am used to more in your face romance and not something so gripping. It does take a little bit to build up the story line, but I felt it was necessary to introduce new readers to. 🙋‍♀️ Was it different from what I normally read? Yes, very much so yes. Did that turn out to be an amazing thing? Yes, very much so yes! First of all, amazing blurb by the author, it got my attention and really put the book into perspective. I might be a bit vague with my review because I went into this only seeing what the blurb said and then finally reading it was like eating that first bite of amazing pie! I am NOT spoiling that for you, but I definitely want to give you some insight! Anyways, Lily is one of the strongest leading ladies I have read in a while. She was a fun loving florist that worked at her family flower shop before the incident. She was shot in the head after being mistaken for someone else. She has her woeful moments, but can you blame her? She just woke up from being in a coma after being SHOT in the head. Not something you are going to bounce back from even after therapy. Combine this with absolute terror of knowing exactly what happened to her AND who did it, but not being able to say anything because she is so scared they are going to finish her off. The fear was real in this story and it was like whoa. Then we meet Duff, strong security man Duff. He was on duty as bodyguard for Jane when all of this went down and he feels that he failed his job when Lily got shot. He definitely has some demons in his past and boy do I want to learn more about them! Since he feels so attached to Lily, he is with her all of the time during her recovery and trying to help her heal mentally and physically. Somewhere along the way, his need to help turns into more for both him and Lily. This totally makes her torn because can she trust that he is not trying to kill her? (SUPER HEAVY STUFF!!) This story is definitely a journey and learning how to cope but when there are REALLY big obstacles in your way. It ends on a cliffhanger, but I am not too upset about it because the next book will be out soon and I WILL be reading it! PS: I received an ARC of this book for free in return for my honest feedback.

Exhilarating. So intense and suspenseful that it’s worth every page turn.

Amazing!. What a phenomenal start to this series. Lily is an amazing character. She's relatable and realistic. Each of the characters in this story are complex and well developed. The story plot is well written and thought out. It quickly pulled me in and kept my eyes glued to the pages until the very last word. At times, I was perched on the edge of my seat, gripping my ipad so hard that I thought I would either fall off the chair or break something. This is a story I know I will reread many times. Well done to the author!

False Memory is a perfect title. Great book and page turner. Kept drawing me in to read more not knowing who to trust!

She got me reading 😂. I struggle with reading , like of course I can read but you really expect me to read 300 pages for fun ? Lol today was my first day on this app . I was browsing through titles , and was like nope I’m not reading anything over 100 something pages (over a few days period 💀) . I literally read this entire book in a day , honestly a few hours if I’m honest 😂. I loved how I could easily paint the pictures in my mind . I’m really excited to see what’s next !

Well written cliffhanger. I don’t like cliffhangers that never end!

Another perfect start. Every time I finish one of Raine’s books, I am completely blown away. Each story so perfectly executed. Not only do all the intricate pieces build the suspense and excitement, but they all fit perfectly together in stunning ways. Danger around every corner, never knowing who to trust...it’s thrilling!! Lily’s first book delivered all of that. I. Am. Hooked! Raine has an incredible ability of being able to transport you into her stories. I could feel Lily’s discomfort, her fear, it was palpable. I have no idea what’s going to happen next and I love it! I can’t get enough of these trilogies. Raine’s writing is superb and the storytelling is brilliant. She has fast become a must read author for me. I’m dying to get my hands on the next installment!!

False Memory. I loved this book so much! I 100% recommend reading it, I usually don’t read a lot but as soon as I started this book I fell in love. As soon as I read this book I pre ordered the next one so I can read it when it comes out. 10/10 would recommend.

Part if a trilogy series. A very entertaining mystery. Only near the end of this first book does the author start to reveal the whole story. I can't wait to start the next book in this series.

Enjoyed. False Memory by Meli Raine is the first book in the False trilogy. This book starts the story of Lily and how she is dealing with being almost killed with the killer still looking over her shoulder. Lily pretends to not remember anything to protect herself while trying to work out everything she can. This is a page turner story that does leave you wonder what will happen next which leaves us wanting the next book in this series.

False Memory. Loved the book couldn’t put it down. So sad it ended as it did.

False memory. Amazing book

Thrilling journey. This is an emotionally gripping beginning to what promises to be a thrilling trilogy.... looking forward to learning more about his journey that begins with a woman waking up from a coma in a room with two very different men. One is the man that attempted to kill her and the other saved her. Love it! Can she convince everyone long enough to save her life??? Highly entertaining and on the edge of my seat for the next book.

I couldn’t put it down. Nor did I want to. I read the first book in two sittings. I must read the next book in the series!

So good!. A good suspense series kickoff with a wonderful story line and compelling character development. The story is rich in details and the author easily paints every scene rather succinctly so you miss nothing and the story doesn’t drag. It’s a real page turner and part of a larger series that is completely gripping.

OMG! I can’t get enough. The ending leaves you breathless, yearning for more just like every book prior to this one. Typically, I find that most book series start to wind out of control and go way off base as each new book is released. This is NOT the case for Meli Raines series. She never disappoints me. I waited forever for this new book and now I’m dying with curiosity to read the next book. December is far too long to have to wait. If you want a series that is truly engaging, sexually intriguing, full of mystery and suspense, this is the perfect series for you! I recommend reading the first series “Breaking Away- Finding Allie”. Once you start reading, you begin this amazing journey with each character and plot twist. It’s a journey you don’t want to miss. I only wish I could read the next book prior to its release. I’m hooked, line and sinker!

Great read. Well written romantic suspense. Enjoyed the story.

False Memory. Great story but didn’t finish the story without buying the next....not happy.

Love it. This was an amazing but heart aching story about Lily and how trying to outsmart the person trying to kill her.

Worst book. Hate it

Exciting, captures you, but VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!. I HATE investing all of this time in reading a book, that doesn’t end inside its covers. I spent all morning becoming invested in these character and what was happening to Lily. I get to the last page and it just STOPS. No closure. Just links to book 2 and 3. Very disappointing. I will not buy book 2 or 3 and will avoid other books by Meli Raine. Yes, this was a free book, I read lots of them. They usually get me invested in the authors style or other characters and I do buy other books by them. But this abrupt cut off is disappointing and uncalled for. Don’t waste your time with this one.

False Memory. I absolutely HATE books that make you buy the next book to find out the ending!

Great book!. One of the best books I’ve read!

Wack. Takes too long to get to the point, you have to read part two to find out who killed her. Waste of time

Disappointed. I was very disappointed because the book does not have an ending. And no, I am not buying the sequel to live in the ending of the story. I am disappointed. I do not recommend.

Great story but you have to buy three books to see how it ends. I hate authors that write a story that should be one book but they spread it over three so they can make more money. I’m not falling for it and don’t care how it ends.

The best Meli Raine yet!. This book grabs you from the first words. Blink..I love the way it is told from Lily's point of view. Superb writing. This follows the Shameless series so some old friends and enemies make their appearances. Lily is recovering after being shot in the head. I am so glad Meli made the recovery of Lily hard work. Rehab can be a grueling process. But the success of that hard work is so rewarding. Duff, Lily's bodyguard, is one tough guy. With a sensitive side that slowly peaks out through the book. Is the killer still after Lily? Did Lily see who actually shot her? Can she tell anyone? I cannot wait for the next book!

False memory. Although a series left it way to unsettled. Was not happy at all with ending

sooo good ,, just wish the rest were free. this book was realllly good and it had an amazing plot with lots of twists and turns. the only problem is that it ends on a cliff hanger and the rest of the books aren’t free:(

Read in one sitting - you can’t stop!. From the opening pages when you’re so deep in our heroine’s head that you feel everything she’s feeling down to her sticky eyelids all the way to the oh my god, don’t end it yet, I’m not ready fo leave them, where’s the next book, I NEED more of them ending, this author just gets better and better. For pity’s sake get on her mailing list so you can keep up with when the next goes on pre-order and catch snippets. Because these characters are unforgettable.

SO GOOD. omg this book i swear i couldn’t put it down to even go to the bathroom. definitely something you’d expect from an exceptional author like Meli Raine!! MUST READ beautifully written!!

Awesome!. Awesome!

Amazing book. From the second she wakes up in the hospital you really care about this character and want her to be OK.

Rollercoaster Ride. The False series was a rollercoaster of a ride. OMG! Had to buy it on audiobook also so I could listen as I drive. All of the stories by this author are action packed with twists and turns. Just when you think you have it figured out, something happens that was not expected. Lilly was an unfortunate mistaken identity who was now protected by the president because she and Jane were friends. The big question is did she see who tried to kill her. Duff has been tasked to keep her safe. Can the two ignore the chemistry or will they give in to temptation?

Wow!. Wow so many questions. I need more!!

Remembering is hard. Lily is trying to piece her life back together again. Who can she trust?

Stunning new series!. False Memory is book one in a brand new three part series by Meli Raine. So, for fans of Meli, it’ll come as no surprise that it ends on a cliffhanger. Thankfully, the books are being released closely together, so if you prefer to wait until the series is complete, then it won’t be too long. January next year in fact. As with all Meli’s books, it doesn’t take long to be sucked into the story and forget where you are, or what you’re supposed to be doing. I told myself, I’ll just read a few chapters then get started on dinner but, ha, ha, did that happen? Nope. Kids went hungry, hubs remained unfed, well, until he wrenched my kindle from my hot, sweaty hands. So, beware. This is not a dip in and out story. It’s fast paced with an amazing assortment of characters and some with questionable motives to say the least. Lily doesn’t know who to trust and after what happened to her it’s easy to see why. She wakes up after months of being in a coma, and she has to decide who put her in that hospital bed with only one thing in mind. Surviving. Can she keep her secrets and unravel the mystery of her attempted homicide? With a cast of characters from both the Shameless and Harmless series of books, this was quite a riveting and thrilling story. Can’t wait for part two. Just a few weeks more. Thank goodness.

Meli raine. I’ve brought and read them all! Sad it’s over.

False Memory. Wow what a story! It grabbed me from start to finish with its chilling suspense and intriguing storyline. I loved the characters and am really looking forward to more.

Wow just wow. Read this book in one day straight I can not wait for the next one!!

Very interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend reading it if you like drama and suspense . It’s not boring like most books like this in my opinion. Great book!

Couldn’t put it down but.... This was a brilliant read. It’s frustrating though that u have to buy the next book to find out the answers though... I’ve now read all three and they are fantastic. Well worth it.

Left wanting. Never in my life have I read a book got to the end thinking how and where did that book go. But tonight I did just that. I couldn’t believe the speed that I read this just wanting to find out what was happening next and when it ended I wanted the next book. 11th December can’t come quick enough

Good. Loved this, full of suspense from start to finish, left me waiting to read the next episode in this series. Thanks to the author x

Only half a book…... Great, unusual story, but be warned…… you have to buy the next book in the series (at least) to complete the story. I would have bought the next book anyway, due to the quality of the first. Trying to force me into a purchase has succeeded in producing the opposite effect. This author has just lost a reader!

Another brilliant book from Meli Raine. Another brilliant book from Meli Raine. I could not put it down, and so once again stayed up way too late reading it. :) Meli knows how to hook you in right from the beginning, and somehow even makes a character in a coma interesting. I sped through this book, and am now impatiently waiting for books 2 and 3 to be released. I love this author, and will read anything and everything she writes.

False Memory drawn out. Whilst this was an ok book it certainly dragged out far to much then getting to the end and it’s still got 2 more books to finalise it seems it could have been easily written in one book Very disappointing and unfortunately I won’t be sticking around for the final ending

Riveting!!. This was a unique story, viewed mainly in someone's inner thoughts of fear and dread. I found the plot fascinating, and would have liked the story to be resolved. I will definitely read the next book in the series.

False memory. A publisher really needs to pick up this author. She is very good.

Brilliant. This book is brilliant. Filled with great characters, drama and a little humour, this story keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Loved!. In this book, the first of the trilogy, Lily wakes from her coma after she had been shot months before. She decides to fake having amnesia to protect herself and her family from her shooter, who walks amongst them as if he’s an ally. The writing in this is great, you can really feel how horribly frustrating it would be for Lily, being stuck in a hospital bed for so long, unable to really do anything, and unable to protect herself in any way, except to pretend she knows nothing. As always in these trilogies, there’s twists and turns and it’s amazing! The endings always leave you wanting the read the next book immediately.

False memory. You have me hooked. I need to have the next book, gotta know what is happening! 👍👍👍👍👍😁

Such a tense story. This story reels the reader in the further the story goes. There is much tension, that one is often left breathless. I really like the writing style, it certainly builds the tension and intrigue. Great story, worth reading.

False Memory Book 1. I HATE, HATE, HATE cliffhanger endings that force you to buy two more books to find out the ending. I assumed the next two books were about different characters like a sibling’s story or a secondary character’s storyline. I would not have read the book if I had known this information and would have appreciated that fact being told in the plot outline.

No ending. I hate when an author thinks it ok to not end a book. I feel used. “Buy the next book, maybe I’ll end it...maybe I won’t..trust me....” it’s a good story with no ending ...you choose. I’m not buying the next book on principle.

Fabulous. Loved this amazing story. Having flower arrangements for someone who’s not dead, is eerie. Couldn’t stop reading to find out the truth. JackieT

False Memory. Really enjoyed this story, Lily and Duff, surrounded by mystery, will they get Romeo, prove he tried to kill her and Jane’s friends. Looking forward to reading Next book in series

Eh.. They trick you into reading and then you get hooked, and now you have to pay $. Thats kind of stupid. If you want to pay for a firstly free book, then I suggest this.

Lily and Duff!. Lily is a friendly and easy going florist which is why she connected with Jane from the Shameless trilogy. She never expected to have been shot instead of Jane and being in a coma for the last year. She has regained consciousness and she is trying to handle not only what happened to her but how to protect herself from the person who tried to kill her. Duff was protecting Jane when Lily got shot and he has been dealing with the guilt and grief for the last year. One she regains consciousness all he wants to do is protect her and keep her safe so that they can find out who is behind it. Lily knows much more than she appears, but she decides that amnesia is the best way to protect herself until she can determine who is a friend and who is a foe. Full of suspense and twists this the first book in the False trilogy and does end on a cliffhanger.

I need to know the rest of the story RIGHT NOW!. I am at a complete loss for words. All I know for certain is that I need to know the rest of the story RIGHT NOW! These interlinked series all lead from one to the next, and when we reached the end of Jane’s story, I knew I wanted to know what happened to Lily. This book about the memories she’s hiding to prevent a killer from succeeding in ending her life sucked me in. It’s now hours after I should have been sound asleep, and yet the story is still spinning through my brain. I was so desperate to know how it ended I couldn’t put the book down. After seeing where it ends, I’m pretty desperate to get my hands on the next book. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

False memory. Great book Characters are great Moves along quickly Loved it

A captivating read!. Surviving, fighting, deception, action and love are how I think of this book. My only complaint was that I didn’t want it to end! Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

"False memory" (false 1) by Meli Raines. What a creative storyline for a book! Powerful beginning which captivates you from the very first word. Words can’t adequately explain the sheer brilliance of the author’s descriptions of the coma, her recovery and the threat she has to avoid by pretending to have amnesia. Poor Lily must’ve been EXHAUSTED. I LOVE how details of the shooting and surrounding events leading up to it are given so sparingly throughout the story.

Great book!. This book was right up my alley. It had lots of twists and turns and kept you hooked on. The reason I don’t give it 5 stars is that the beginning was interesting and so was the last half ish, but the plot didn’t really go anywhere in the middle. Other than that, this was a great book, would highly recommend.
