Nel mondo cinese, anzi in tutta l’area estremorientale del mondo, Wang Yangming (1472-1529) da secoli è visto come uno dei quattro grandi maestri del confucianesimo, dopo Confucio (551-479 a.C.), Mencio (371-289 a.C.) e Zhu Xi (1130-1200). È lui che ha fondato la “Scuola Yaojiang” ovvero “Scuola della Mente di Wang Yangming”, o anche “Scuola Lu-Wang,” che nella seconda parte della dinastia Ming (1368-1644) divenne una delle scuole confuciane dominanti nella società, e lo rimase anche in seguito, fino ai nostri giorni.
Wang Yangming non era solo un filosofo; era un uomo straordinario, di quelli che di tanto in tanto compaiono sulla terra.

Umberto Bresciani, nativo di Cremona, ha conseguito il dottorato in Lettere cinesi alla National Taiwan University di Taipei, Taiwan. Attualmente è docente presso l’Università Cattolica Fujen di Taipei. Esperto dei temi attinenti al dialogo religioso e culturale con il mondo cinese, ha pubblicato, in particolare, ReinventingConfucianism. The New Confucian Movement (2001), tradotto in italiano come La filosofia cinese nel ventesimo secolo. I nuovi Confuciani (2009). Per Passerino Editore ha pubblicato Il primo principio della filosofia confuciana (ebook, 2014); WangYangming:AnEssential Biography (ebook, 2016)..
