Good Guy by Kate Meader Book Summary

He's a Special Forces veteran making his pro hockey debut. She's a dogged sports reporter determined to get a scoop. She's also his best friend's widow . . .

Fans can’t get enough of Levi Hunt, the military veteran who put his NHL career on hold to serve his country and fight the bad guys. So when his new Chicago Rebels bosses tell him to cooperate with the press on a profile, he’s ready to do his duty. Until he finds out who he has to work with: flame-haired, freckle-splashed, impossibly perky Jordan Cooke.

The woman he should not have kissed the night she buried her husband, Levi’s best friend in the service.

Hockey-stick-up-his-butt-serious Levi Hunt might despise Jordan for reasons she can’t fathom—okay, it’s to do with kissing—but her future in the cutthroat world of sports reporting hangs on delivering the goods on the league’s hottest, grumpiest rookie. So what if he’s not interested in having his life plated up for public consumption. Too bad. Jordan will have to play dirty to get her scoop and even dirtier to get her man.

Only in winning the story, she might just lose her heart …

Good Guy. Loved following Jordan and Levi’s journey. Perfect amount of comedy within the storyline. It made the characters human.

Good Guy!. I laughed out loud! It takes alot to get me to laugh out loud reading! I loved this book it touched on women in business and how we get treated so if that is a trigger for you, this might not be your book. I don’t like to read ratings that tell the entire story so leave it at great book well worth the read!

Loved this!. A bit super hero, a sports reporter who is a woman, and a history for them. This has lots of different feels in it. It also definitely touches on the male hypocrisy of women in sports roles of leadership, reporting, etc.. It’s also a sweet and hot love story of two people drawn together by tragedy and a huge emotional and sexual connection.

Great book!. Good, cute and fast read. A couple empty pages but the story is well written and it keeps you engaged from the very beginning 💕🤎🏒

Fun & sexy. Loved it! All the feels!!!

this book got me back into reading. i have not completed an entire book since elementary school, but i decided to start reading again and i could not stop reading this book

Second Chances. Levi Hunt put his NHL hockey career on hold to serve his country. While deployed, his best friend is killed and he’s devastated. Returning home to attend his service, Levi reconnects with Jordan. The girl who got away, his one BIG regret. Prior to Jordan marrying his best friend, he had eyes for her but never asked her out. His best friend beat him to the punch, asking her out first. So she’s now off-limits! After his passing, Levi gets caught up in emotions and kisses Jordan. Yet another regret... Jordan put her career on hold after marrying. While she didn’t regret it, she now finds it difficult to make it in the male-dominated career of sports reporting. Not only do woman sportscasters have to put up with their counterparts thinking they can’t possibly report on sports as they do, but they also have to endure sexual harassment. If they report an incident, they’re viewed as “not tough enough”. When Jordan catches her big break, she does everything she can to get the story in order to be taken seriously. Little does she know her story is her biggest regret. Such an amazing story! Kate Meader takes serious topics and weaves them into an amazing storyline. Sexual harassment, homelessness, service dogs, are all difficult topics on their own. I loved that Levi was so protective of his friends at the food bank. Levi didn’t want or need the attention or accolades. I enjoyed Jordan’s antics and her ability to get Levi to open up. Once Levi realized he was a better teammate, player, and friend once he opened up to the idea that he deserved a good life—wow! What a transformation! I can’t wait to read about the other Rebel players! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

Good modern story!. Enjoyed this story built around hockey, women sports writers, homeless issues, and military PTSD. Headed now to read the next in the series!!

Good guy. / Kate Meader. This book was long.... I didn’t think it would ever get to the end. Good story. But kind of boring in places.

Good Guy. Good book. Lots of fun reading. Great romance. Real clever of author to take an ex Special Forces guy and place him in the NHL. Recommend it.

Read it!. Honestly really liked the story. There was plenty of drama and romance, but also a lot of real life situations.

Love a broody hero!. Kate Meader brings us a new series set in the same world as her Chicago Rebels world. Our first main couple is Levi Hunt and Jordan Cooke. Good Guy is all about a second chance. Levi and Jordan are both given a second chance at a career. Levi with an NHL career with the Chicago Rebel’s after his stint as a Green Beret. Jordan, a sports journalist after she set it aside to be a young bride. And 5 years after losing her husband, Jordan and Levi are given a second chance at love. Levi’s decision to become a war hero before an NHL star is big news but he’s a very private person. That previous connection Jordan has with Levi has made her a shoe in for the journalist to get his story, but it won’t be as easy as every thinks. Levi has not had an easy upbringing and he isn’t open to sharing anything but his hockey career publicly. He doesn’t realize what an inspiration he is. The title of a good Guy really is an apt description for him. He’s honorable and protective but very private and a bit moody. I’m not much of a fan of journalist because they are usually portrayed as people who will do anything for a story. I was happy to see that Jordan is the opposite of all that. She is just as honorable as Levi. She can get the story the the right way. I really liked both main characters. Levi is that broody H that I love, and Jordan was a fun heroine that handles difficult situations the way I like to see. We also get to see the author focus on the imbalance of women’s treatment in a male dominated world. I loved all the new characters to this group of people as well as seeing some old favorites. I’m looking forward to more in the series!

Great Series Kickoff!. Good Guy is a great start to Kate Meader’s new Rookie Rebels series. The heroine and hero are opposites attract in every way, making for entertaining interactions. Jordan is fun, social, the epitome of the curious journalist. Levi, on the other hand, is quiet—almost broody—watchful, and goes to great lengths to keep his private life private. Tensions mount when Jordan is persistent in uncovering his secrets and motivation for starting a pro hockey career at an age when most athletes are retiring. There is a slow build up to the romance and customary steam delivered by this author. At times it’s almost overshadowed by the many other threads happening, some with the main characters and others setting up future installments. Without revealing any spoilers, there is a lot packed into this story. Those that impacted Jordan and Levi were resolved. Surely the others will be in time. The Rookie Rebels introduces a fun new cast everyone is sure to love. One of Levi’s teammates almost stole the show with his adorableness. Hopefully he’ll receive his own story sooner rather than later. Only time will tell if he’ll be paired with the brusque character who’s hiding secrets. What I loved most is catching up with several of my favorite characters from the Chicago Rebels and Hot In Chicago series. It was a welcome but unexpected surprise. Good Guy probably could be enjoyed without reading the previous two series, but I highly recommend at least reading the Chicago Rebels first. It will make the cameos that much more entertaining. 3.75 stars

Terrible 🥱. I don’t know how this got good ratings, so slow and boring… had to skip about 10 chapters to get to the end and that was even boring! So disappointed I paid for this one!

Really enjoyed this!. Awesome read thanks for sharing your amazing work. Can’t wait to read more of your stories.

Awesome Read. Well written hilarious at times. I’ve read a couple from this author & this is the best story I’ve read so far.

4.25stars—colorful and energetic characters. 4.25 stars---GOOD GUY is the first instalment in Kate Meader’s contemporary, adult ROOKIE REBELS erotic, hockey, romance series-a spin off from the author’s Chicago Rebel series. This is former Special Forces Green Beret and Chicago Rebels newest rookie Levi Hunt, and sports reported Jordan Cooke’s story line. GOOD GUY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the original series is revealed where necessary. There is a slight cross-over with the author’s HOT IN CHICAGO firefighter series and the appearance of Kinsey Taylor-Almeida as Jordan’s best friend. Told from dual third person perspectives (Jordan and Levi) GOOD GUY follows the best friend’s wife scenario as former Special Forces Green Beret Levi Hunt becomes the oldest rookie on the professional hockey circuit with the Chicago Rebels. Five years earlier Levi Hunt lost his best friend Josh Cooke to a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, leaving his wife Jordan a widow at twenty-three. Fast forward to present day wherein Levi Hunt has returned to the game that he loves, a game that will bring him face to face with the woman he has loved since the day they first met. Enter reporter and journalist Jordan Cooke. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Jordan and Levi, and the potential fall-out as words said in anger trigger too many hard feelings between our leading couple. Levi Hunt knew the moment he saw Jordan Cooke, he had fallen in love but Jordan fell for Levi’s best friend Josh, a man who would lose his life all too soon. Levi would soon discover that Jordan’s latest assignment was Levi himself, an assignment that would both push and pull our couple together and apart. Jordan Cooke knew getting the coveted story about Levi Hunt could make or break her sports reporting career but getting the real story meant going against everything she believed including the potential to destroy the man with whom she was falling in love. The relationship between Jordan and Levi is one of second chances of a sort. Levi is a bit of a loner; a quiet but powerful hockey play who has been in love with his best friend’s wife for as long as he can remember but keeping his distance meant keeping away from the woman that called to his heart. Jordan knows that to get her story she is going to have to get close to our story line hero but getting close is about to backfire when her fellow reporters sense something else between our leading couple. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including several members of the Chicago Rebels previously introduced in the author’s CHICAGO REBELS hockey series, team manager Dante Moretti; Chicago Rebels owners-Harper and Isabel Chase, Violet Vasquez, and their significant others, as well as the introduction of several members of the sports media; hockey players Theo Kershaw and Ford Callaghan, and Special Forces support team member Elle Butler. GOOD GUY is a story of family, friendship, heart break and betrayal; a story of loss, love and second chances. The premise is entertaining and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are colorful and energetic.

Levi & Jordan. Enjoyed their story and the chemistry between them. I wish that they would have gotten more pages on the being together, their happily ever after expanded upon. With their history and then their present feelings for one another, they definitely deserved more pages dedicated to them being together.

Jordan is just pure sunshine!. Levi and his best friend Josh fell in love with the same girl ... but Josh met her first and the rest is history. Shortly after they get married, Josh is killed in Afghanistan leaving Jordan alone. Five years later, Levi leaves the Green Berets and becomes the oldest rookie in the NHL. Meanwhile Jordan has become a sports writer and when her boss finds out that Jordan and Levi know each other, he assigns her the task of getting the dirt on the oldest rookie. Jordan remembers Levi as this quiet grumpy guy and is hesitant to interview him. But when they meet again, the sparks fly. This is a great spin-off series and I like the fact that characters from the Rebel Series appear in this book. I really liked Jordan ... after her husband died, she picked herself up and made a life for herself and was such a positive person. Levi was just a grump at first, but I liked him much better by the middle of the book. I just loved some of the other characters that I know will have books in this series and can't wait. A great start to a new series. I received an early copy courtesy of the author through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.

Sweet hockey romance. I didn’t expect to enjoy these two characters as much as I have. They’re both raw and likeable. It’s hard not to like such honesty. A 4.5 out of 5.

The perfect combo. I love a book that has a great story and great steamy bits. I know compared to other books the steamy bits might not be much. But for intro or basic smut it was great!! I loved this book! The author has a great writing style.

Good Guy. Within the first few pages of reading, I wasn’t prepared for the amazing storyline unwrapping before me. The beautiful soul of Levi Hunt, actually he’s a real life angel living on earth for each of us reading to take notes on how we all should be behaving towards others. Levi’s seen it all: homelessness, Green Beret military life, talented professional hockey player and still he’s sees himself as « unlovable », until he sets eyes upon Jordan, the very feisty redhead, professional reporter that rocked his world one night in a bar , seven years ago. But life had other plans and Jordan ended up married to his best friend Josh and partner in the military. Now, widowed for five years Jordan has an opportunity of a lifetime, when she’s assigned to write a profile on Levi Hunt. The real journey begins when in-depth inquiries are made into Levi’s life and she discovers a totally different man behind the one he portrays to the world. The contents and subjects revealed in this book are heavy and might be triggering to some people, but they bring on reflection in a very spiritual manner. The author ✍️ is amazingly tactful in expressing everything and she’ll soon become one of your favourites to read. I’m reading her for the first time and I’m blown away already 🥰! I’ll definitely keep reading her. I’m rating this book a 5 stars and more and a very recommended read !

Good Guy. This is a great book! I really enjoyed the characters. I know this isn’t a true story, but the way women are treated in sports while it is better there is always room for improvement.
