The Guest Book by C. L. Pattison Book Summary
WELCOME TO THE ANCHORAGE, FOR A HONEYMOON YOU'LL NEVER FORGET . . .
Charles and Grace wanted a quiet staycation honeymoon, but when their train terminates early due to a storm up ahead, they wonder if they made the wrong decision. Forced to take shelter in the nearest seaside town, Saltwater, they discover that there is only one guesthouse left. Unlike the rest of Saltwater, The Anchorage is entirely deserted.
That night, with the storm howling relentlessly, Grace is woken by a child crying. She is haunted by the sound, until Charles convinces her it was only her imagination. But the next day, she finds a warning scrawled in the guest book: Leave now. Do not trust them.
As the storm rages on, phone lines are down, transport links cut off. Grace is desperate to leave, but Charles remains unaffected by the eerie stillness of the house. Is it just Grace's imagination or do the owners, and Charles, have something to hide?
THANK YOU FOR STAYING AT THE ANCHORAGE. WE HOPE YOU'LL BE BACK SOON...
Perfect for fans of Harriet Tyce, Lisa Jewell and Ruth Ware.

Gripping. Couldnât put it down. Highly recommended
I wouldnât ask for a late check out. Some very clever and tense parts made for a good read but I wasnât blown away by the overall conclusion. Still a good read for anyone who likes a bit of mystery and a ghostly threat.
Itâs okay.. End feels rushed, jumps quickly between scenes. Had potential and few interesting twists.
Very enjoyable. At first I thought this would be so predictable, haunted guest house, young couple sheltering from the storm...but it actually unravelled in the most surprising way. The book stays with you whilst you are reading it- it makes you keen to get back to see what happens next Ideal for lockdown Reading- easy and enjoyable I recommend this book
Rubbish. Hated the main characters, plot had potential but wasnât followed. End rubbish!
Did I read a different book to the raving reviewers?. I wanted to enjoy this book as it was my first delve into reading after a six month break and was lulled into it from reading the creepy blurb and five star reviews. A lot of the story was unbelievable, who has a celebration party while their fiancé is in critical condition in hospital? Why would you keep a guest book with bad reviews lying around? Would you really find out about The Anchorage from a podcast after what happened there? As the story developed the loose ends were tied up rather too conveniently and I became deflated reading another last minute attempt to shock me.
Prim and proper.. Very old fashioned. Set in modern times, but written by an 80 year old....
WOAHH. This book is just phenomenal. It is a beautifully written story. The plot twist took me by surprise honestly! Would highly recommend giving it a readđ»
The Guest Book. Charlie and Grace find themselves stranded in a small village due to a bad storm, en route to St Ives for their much anticipated honeymoon. They book into the only a available hotel, The Anchorage. Much to their surprise, Graces husband had spent many a childhood holiday here. Their short stay brings back far from happy memories for Charlie her husband. Mother Nature and a hostile reception from the locals adds to a claustrophobic atmosphere . Repetitive in parts, and spoiled by poor quality proof reading.....a maddening over use of hyphenated word.
Good book. Shame about all the spelling mistakes
Keeps you guessing - great read. Well -written story about a couple on their honeymoon that isnât going to plan. It keeps you guessing as to what is really happening right to the very end. Well-formed characters and a fast-paced/enjoyable read. Great book.
