Game On by Janet Evanovich Book Summary

Stephanie Plum returns to hunt down a new kind of criminal operating out of Trenton in the twenty-eighth book in the wildly popular series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Janet Evanovich.

When Stephanie Plum is woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of footsteps in her apartment, she wishes she didn’t keep her gun in the cookie jar in her kitchen. And when she finds out the intruder is fellow apprehension agent Diesel, six feet of hard muscle and bad attitude whom she hasn’t seen in more than two years, she still thinks the gun might come in handy.

Turns out Diesel and Stephanie are on the trail of the same fugitive: Oswald Wednesday, an international computer hacker as brilliant as he is ruthless. Stephanie may not be the most technologically savvy sleuth, but she more than makes up for that with her dogged determination, her understanding of human nature, and her willingness to do just about anything to bring a fugitive to justice. Unsure if Diesel is her partner or her competition, she’ll need to watch her back every step of the way as she works to draw Wednesday out from behind his computer and into the real world in this “action-packed caper filled with crazy twists and some nail-biting suspense” (Booklist, starred review).

Love this series. Started reading this series and really enjoyed it. This episode was fun and fast paced. Love that Ms. Evanovich remains true to Stephanie Plum and the other characters. Very amusing and light hearted.

Surprisingly disappointing. I’ve faithfully read each book of this series since 2002, this one was just not the same. It wax nearly 400 pages of boring. Lula was very bland and didn’t seem to fit with previous books. Strange phrase choices like “what the fork” over and over. Even Grandma didn’t cause any trouble. I’ve never been disappointed in one of these books until now. It doesn’t even feel like it was written by the same person.

Laughing Out Loud. I loved it. Ms. Evanovich does not disappoint. I was reading while at my doctor’s appointment in the waiting room. Occasionally laughing out loud. People also waiting thought I was nuts.

Silly. Silly plot with silly, sophomoric dialog.

Disappointing. The previous Plum books were getting goofy, but this was just plain boring. The characters suddenly had no personality, and there was little to no humor in this one. There’s no profanity in the book, a reader who has made it this far in the Plum series obviously isn’t bothered by a little foul language. Lula saying ‘what the fork’ and ‘son of a bagel’ make it sound like this book is written for kindergartners. While I’ve loved the Plum series, these last few books make me think of sit-coms that have run their course a few seasons past.

Game On. I’m a huge fan of Janet Evanovich and I particularly like the Stephanie Plum series. Unfortunately, this book though did not live up to my expectations nor her standards. It came off as tepid. Stephanie had no spark, there was barely any humor & all her old trademarks seemed to be missing. There was no mention of the history between her and “the Italian Stallion,” there was no “smelled like Christmas cookies” or reference to our “mocha latte Cuban sex god”. Her relationship with Morelli was incredibly bland—why was he not jealous of Diesel? Why when Stephanie’s B&E FTA turned into a serial killer was Ranger not on top of the situation (or her)? Where was Diesel’s history? Perhaps this has to do with the change in publishers. If so, I can understand the downplaying of Diesel’s “abilities” (although it made for fun reading, I’ve never been a huge fan), but I think they’ve gone too far. I miss our Cupcake. That said, we definitely need more Babe (and Rex)!

Love this author. This is probably the 15th book of Janet’s I’ve read. All of them pretty predictable but still entertaining.

Game on. I love Stephanie Plum! But she is starting to get stale. Maybe wrap it up? Joe doesn’t seem to love her, he always seems annoyed.

Janet knows New Jersey like a Taylor Ham and Egg. I’ve read all of her novels, but this newest Stephanie Plum has upped her game. Modern references to Marvel movies, the Mets and cyber hacking. Fun diversion during rotten pandemic. Thx Janet!

Loved it. Can’t wait for the next book!

Disappointed. I’d be shocked if Janet wrote this book. All the characters were boring including my favorites Lula and grandma. They didn’t talk or act the same as they did in the other books. Even Ranger was boring. Janet needs to step it on the next one.Her loyal readers know her characters in and out.

Good book. Good book but not great. Present but the ending was a disappointment.

Disappointed. I’ve read every single Stephanie Plum book. This one REALLY let me down.

Disappointed. This was not written by Janet Evanovich,,, I have read all of her Stephanie Plum books ,3 huge mistakes: book says she drinks wine, wrong she drinks beer, she called her mother mom at the beginning, it has always been mother, and stick a fork in me, I’m done, that author got that quote from a certain tv judge

Hooray for Stephanie. Great storyline, very exciting right up until the end which sort of dangled and fell a little flat. I have read every book in the series and can hardly wait until the next one comes out.

Awesome!. Great as always! Janet is my favorite author.

Steph and Lulou on the loose. Janet never fails to entertain Stephanie never fails to get into all types of trouble. She is going for a record in destroying cars and getting almost killed. I am not sure what it would be like to have three hot men interested in me. Enjoy the is latest installment.

So Much Fun!. This is one of the craziest stories of all! A really fun read. Janet is a genius to write these books! I so love this book, you will too!

Excellent as always. Janet and Stephanie never fail to amuse and keep us turning the pages!!!

Game On. Great as always

Great game!. Loved the suspense, humour and unusual all in one!!

Stephanie Plum and Lula. These books crack me up. They’re ready to reread and I like the characters. It’s like hanging with friends.

Game on. Not as exciting as all her previous ones. It normally only takes me a day to a day and a half to read, but this one took me over a week. Disappointed, but book is still good. Not sure what was missing.
