Phenderson Djèlí Clark wurde in New York geboren, lebte aber während seiner ersten Jahre im Heimatland seiner Eltern Trinidad und Tobago. Hauptberuflich arbeitet Clark als Historiker und forscht zu Sklaverei und Rassismus. Das Interesse an Geschichte vermischt er mit seiner Leidenschaft für Literatur. Er ist Autor mehrerer preisgekrönter Novellen, Romane und Aufsätze, unter anderem auch zu H. P. Lovecraft. Derzeit lebt er mit seiner Familie in New England in einem kleinen Schloss.
