The Boys from Biloxi by John Grisham Book Summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Two families. One courtroom showdown. • John Grisham’s most gripping thriller yet. • “A legal literary legend.” —USA Today

John Grisham returns to Mississippi with the riveting story of two sons of immigrant families who grow up as friends, but ultimately find themselves on opposite sides of the law. Grisham’s trademark twists and turns will keep you tearing through the pages until the stunning conclusion.

For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

Keith Rudy and Hugh Malco grew up in Biloxi in the sixties and were childhood friends, as well as Little League all-stars. But as teenagers, their lives took them in different directions. Keith’s father became a legendary prosecutor, determined to “clean up the Coast.” Hugh’s father became the “Boss” of Biloxi’s criminal underground. Keith went to law school and followed in his father’s footsteps. Hugh preferred the nightlife and worked in his father’s clubs. The two families were headed for a showdown, one that would happen in a courtroom.

Life itself hangs in the balance in The Boys from Biloxi, a sweeping saga rich with history and with a large cast of unforgettable characters.

The boys from Biloxi. Excellent

Exhausting.. This book was so tedious, predictable, overly long, amateurishly written and just down right hard to get through. I can’t believe the same author who wrote A Time To Kill and The Firm and The Chamber and so many other exceptional books wrote this mess.

Boys From Biloxi. 3/5 stars. I’ve read all of Grisham’s books. This was not that interesting of a story. Hal R hat interesting of a story.

A great read. Starts out a little slow, which to me is uncharacteristic of John Grisham. But I enjoyed reading this book like all of his books.

Slow, unimaginative.. See above

Good book. Good book

Great story and enjoyable read. This was a very enjoyable Grisham read. It’s a complex story, lots of twists and turns. But it kept my attention and interest. Maybe one of Grisham’s better books. Glad he has not lost the touch. Buy it and read it. You won’t be sorry.

Boys from biloxi. Typical Grisham read….. pretty predictable

Joe Llewellyn. Good read! Just like Grisham!

Not worth it. I struggled to get through the first few chapters. Why do I keep thinking he’s a good writer??

Another Masterpiece….. Author John Grisham continues to bring literary elevation to a art form with this riveting tale of good and evil, friend vs. friend, family story. Knowing the area vaguely through travel the story brings to Coast alive in my mind as the words gather. Truly this should be developed into a screenplay for Movie adaptation. Thank you Mr. Grisham, I await your next work of art!!!

Boys from Biloxi. I sped through this book. Maybe one of his best. I have been encouraging my friends to read it. I admit when Jesse Rudy was killed, I was stunned and saddened that he wouldn’t personally go with me to the end. Keith proved to be an excellent partner in the rest of the journey.

Not worth the read. The book was a big disappointment. There was very little depth to the characters and I didn’t like the narration style. It sounded like a friend telling me the story of 2 families he knew of who started out in similar circumstances and took very different paths. An old story, told a million times, with nothing surprising or special.

In decision. I couldn’t decide who to root for. I wanted Lance and family to win out. You presented several main characters and left it open for the reader to choose.

A Really Good Read!. This was an excellent read. Best from Grisham in my opinion , in a while. The ending will surprise some, disappoint some and please some! There was less direct dialogue between characters and more narrative story telling it seemed to me, than in his other books but the story telling was good and held my interest throughout. Anxious for his next book. Love the courtroom drama!

Great read. He still hasn’t lost his touch

Horribly Boring!. I'm about a third of the way through. Reviews say that is the point it becomes interesting. This is the most boring Grisham to date. The plot is scattered and vague. The characters are neither compelling nor attractive. I'm sure it's well written and researched, however there is little to hold my interest. I won't waste any more time. Grisham owes me an apology.

I’d read it gain. A good read with good characters.

The Boys From Biloxi. A powerfully written book that made me cry with the sadness of lives ruined. Two boys with so much potential for good, one of whom lost his way in a life of crime. My rating is lower than usual for this author because this book lost my interest about one third in. Maybe the time line spanning several generations was too long, and the content was too depressing. The courtroom scenes became too boring.

Boring. It picked up a bit at the end. None of the characters were that likeable. Ending sucked. A lot of dumb criminals and way too many snitches

Predictable. A well-written book but very predictable at each stage. Good versus evil and good will Alexis win. Let’s see what next year brings Grisham fans!

A history Book. An average book by an excellent writer and a great story teller. Unfortunately, this book like his novella book are disappointments. If the author only writes now to make money, he should simply stop writing. I’ve read all his books but from now on, won’t read his works without a solid review.

Grisham is back on point. After reading his last book , 3 short stories with no endings, I was hesitant to purchase this book because I was afraid Grisham has lost his ability to write a complete story. This is probably the best book he has written with the exception of a time to kill. Thank you Grisham for getting back on track.

Spellbinder. Good book

Boys from Biloxi. JG is the BEST.

A disappointment!. I’m sorry I wasted my money on it. It’s just boring. I always have to finish a book, but I’m quitting on this one.

Grisham of Oxford. I vote this one of his best! I’ve read them all and he really hit a home run here. As a lifetime Mississippian I appreciate his storytelling skills. Mix in some local color with exciting characters and chalk up another best seller!

Great story told by a master of the craft!. Excellent research makes for a very believable story that covers decades. Having lived in Biloxi for a time (Air Force!) it was interesting to get a glimpse of the growth of this gulf coast area. The start of the book is a bit slow, but hang in there! It picks up steam and then its off to the races! Great character development that adds so much to the story.

Normally, I’m a Grisham Follower. Unfortunately, this was probably the most uninteresting Grisham book I’ve read.

A slog, not expected from Grisham. That's $15 I won’t get back! I once read that writers should 'show not tell.' Grisham is usually good at that, but The Boys from Biloxi is all telling. There is no character story, except from the narrator. Passive, slow, disappointing. Hung on expecting the dialogue and 'showing' would start soon, but can’t bear it any longer. I quit. Don’t usually write reviews, had to this time.

The Boys from Biloxi. First Grisham books were great to excellent. Next we’re good to terrible. “The Boys….” was as good as, or better than the earlier ones. Maybe even best one yet.

Don’t waste your time or money. Horrible writing. Characters are flat and one dimensional - all bad or so virtuous they should be sainted - and the whole things is told in colorless prose. There’s virtually no actual dialogue. It was literally painful to read. By far the worst Grisham I’ve read, and (probably) the worst novel I’ve read in a while.

Boys from Biloxi. The book started off slowly and I only read a chapter or two at a time when most of Grisham’s books I have read in just a few sittings. It picked up about a third of the way and held my interest for the rest of the book. The history of the coast of Mississippi was fascinating and the colorful characters made for a great read

The Boys From Boloxie. Just OK. Long and somewhat plodding. The end was both disappointing and predictable.

A Good Book. The reason I bought this book is because I lived in Ocean Springs for 13 years. I figured since I lived there I should read the book and I like reading Grisham novels. It started out great then slowed down then got better. Overall the book was great. I think anyone who reads Grisham novels will like this one.

A Slog. I got through it, but it was hard work. The characters were uninspiring at best, unlikable or forgettable at worst. I found it impossible to care about the outcome and, at the end of the book, began skipping sentences or entire paragraphs. I suspect I didn’t miss anything. Not recommended.

Same Old, Same Old - Its great!. Another great read by Mr. Dependability! I forget how well he writes until I end up reading a couple of good, but not great novels by others. Then I open a Grisham and boom! I’m immediately pulled into the story and devour it in a couple of days!

Boys From Biloxi. Good read

A CHUMP READ. His first books were very good; However his last books pale in comparison. So I’m the Chump for buying this one.

One of his best!. As a true Grisham I’ve read all of his books, this one does not disappoint. So many of his early books have a “singular “ plot, this one has several and might be termed layered. While we often wait for then library this purchase was worth it.

I. A HzsswrstrAaI and a 3/4/\73/Tyra'srddyueaesTt the ä

Great. This was a great book, brings you through 3 generations of good and bad!

Loved in the end. I thought the beginning was slow and hard to stick with but knew in the end, I wouldn’t be able to put it down.

A Good Read. There was enough interesting events in this book with less repetition; which I find tedious in many books. The story kept moving and was full of characters of all sorts, a bit of history and local myths.

Disappointing. I have read all of his books and this is one of my least favorite.

Boys of Biloxi bombs. Normally I can devour a Grisham book in less than 2 days. It has taken me 2 weeks to get through this one. I think it is because there is very little dialog, so much description, and way too many characters. I am not a fan of expository writing in novels. So boring at times.

The Biloxi boys. What a waste of $15. There was no storyline. Very disappointed in such a great writer. I have read all his books, and I felt like I was cheated.

Not the best by Grisham. Huge disappointment . . a big difference in what Grisham usually writes. Wish I could get my money back.

The boys from Biloxi. Was a very good read it did drag towards the end and I would have ended it a little better by giving clemency to my old friend Dr. James Roy Appleton Junior MD

The Boys From Biloxi. This book was dry and arduous to read. Full of uninteresting characters and boring story telling. I wish I could go back a week and not waste my money on this drivel. I used to be a huge John Grisham fan but that was back when he wrote high paced and exciting legal thrillers. This will be the last Grisham book I purchase.
