The Boys from Biloxi Book Reviews
The Boys from Biloxi by John Grisham Book Summary
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Two families. One courtroom showdown. • John Grisham’s most gripping thriller yet. • “A legal literary legend.” —USA Today
John Grisham returns to Mississippi with the riveting story of two sons of immigrant families who grow up as friends, but ultimately find themselves on opposite sides of the law. Grisham’s trademark twists and turns will keep you tearing through the pages until the stunning conclusion.
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.
Keith Rudy and Hugh Malco grew up in Biloxi in the sixties and were childhood friends, as well as Little League all-stars. But as teenagers, their lives took them in different directions. Keith’s father became a legendary prosecutor, determined to “clean up the Coast.” Hugh’s father became the “Boss” of Biloxi’s criminal underground. Keith went to law school and followed in his father’s footsteps. Hugh preferred the nightlife and worked in his father’s clubs. The two families were headed for a showdown, one that would happen in a courtroom.
Life itself hangs in the balance in The Boys from Biloxi, a sweeping saga rich with history and with a large cast of unforgettable characters.

The Master Storyteller!. I can’t say that I’ve ever disliked one of the author’s novels. But this is one of his best stories. He takes us on a very believable journey of two boys - who grow apart with changing ideals - through a time of mob dominance in the Deep South. I found Mr. Grisham’s ability to weave in multiple characters and sub-plots over a 25+ year period without confusing me in the least to be nothing short of amazing.
In decision. I couldn’t decide who to root for. I wanted Lance and family to win out. You presented several main characters and left it open for the reader to choose.
Strategy. There’s never been a better Courtroom strategy writer ! Ever
Not Bad. It’s a good story but lacks the drama of The Firm or A Time to Kill. I found myself getting bored at times. Overall, it is a easy read and has a good ending.
Boring. Had to give up.. I normally love his books, but I was super bored with this one. Quit about a third of the way through. I just didn’t care about the characters or the story at all.
Boys From Biloxi. Fast read will keep your interest.
A Good Read. There was enough interesting events in this book with less repetition; which I find tedious in many books. The story kept moving and was full of characters of all sorts, a bit of history and local myths.
Probably his best. I have never read a John Grisham book that I didn’t like. However I really loved this one. Even though the story does not move at a frenetic pace, it is riveting. I can’t wait for his next one. I have read every one of his books, but I really got into this one. John Grisham is without a doubt one of my favorite writers.
Boys From Biloxi. Good read
A Really Good Read!. This was an excellent read. Best from Grisham in my opinion , in a while. The ending will surprise some, disappoint some and please some! There was less direct dialogue between characters and more narrative story telling it seemed to me, than in his other books but the story telling was good and held my interest throughout. Anxious for his next book. Love the courtroom drama!
Don’t waste your time or money. Horrible writing. Characters are flat and one dimensional - all bad or so virtuous they should be sainted - and the whole things is told in colorless prose. There’s virtually no actual dialogue. It was literally painful to read. By far the worst Grisham I’ve read, and (probably) the worst novel I’ve read in a while.
Great story. Love the story telling!
Great story told by a master of the craft!. Excellent research makes for a very believable story that covers decades. Having lived in Biloxi for a time (Air Force!) it was interesting to get a glimpse of the growth of this gulf coast area. The start of the book is a bit slow, but hang in there! It picks up steam and then its off to the races! Great character development that adds so much to the story.
A fine story.. During my 70+ years I've only driven through Mississippi on my way to Florida. But Grisham transported me to the the place and the era. A very good read.
Great read!. Enjoyed the story. Great ending!
A great read. Starts out a little slow, which to me is uncharacteristic of John Grisham. But I enjoyed reading this book like all of his books.
Horribly Boring!. I'm about a third of the way through. Reviews say that is the point it becomes interesting. This is the most boring Grisham to date. The plot is scattered and vague. The characters are neither compelling nor attractive. I'm sure it's well written and researched, however there is little to hold my interest. I won't waste any more time. Grisham owes me an apology.
John Grisham Biloxi…Per Deno from Reno. Another well written book by JG. Did he keep me on the edge of my seat like he did with the Firm and his earlier books….Not exactly. As with any long relationship, the fire may dim a bit over time but it’s replaced by comfort and familiarity. A weekend home and recovering from a bout with the flu was made easier as I inhaled Biloxi.
Spellbinder. Good book
The Boys From Biloxi. This book was dry and arduous to read. Full of uninteresting characters and boring story telling. I wish I could go back a week and not waste my money on this drivel. I used to be a huge John Grisham fan but that was back when he wrote high paced and exciting legal thrillers. This will be the last Grisham book I purchase.
The Biloxi coast of good and evil. Not a bad read. As always, I learned something and went into a world I was not aware existed. A small twist on the rich man poor man tale. I especially liked the light hearted snippet about boxing.
Normally, I’m a Grisham Follower. Unfortunately, this was probably the most uninteresting Grisham book I’ve read.
Boys from bilpxi. Verbiage!!
Great story and enjoyable read. This was a very enjoyable Grisham read. It’s a complex story, lots of twists and turns. But it kept my attention and interest. Maybe one of Grisham’s better books. Glad he has not lost the touch. Buy it and read it. You won’t be sorry.
Larry’s Review. Not the author’s best story. Many of his other books were hard to put down. This one was easy to stop reading.
We will get. I’m not sure if you can go
I’m not sure what. I have to go to the store to get some
A Good Book. The reason I bought this book is because I lived in Ocean Springs for 13 years. I figured since I lived there I should read the book and I like reading Grisham novels. It started out great then slowed down then got better. Overall the book was great. I think anyone who reads Grisham novels will like this one.
Predictable. Very predictable read -
Not my favorite Grisham. I look forward to every Grisham book and this was no exception. This book fell short for me though. Lots of characters to keep track of and I was never really sure where it was going. The premise sounded intriguing but it was hard to keep my interest. Looking forward to his next novel…
The boys from Biloxi. Excellent
Excellent. Excellent
Awesome read. Great read, best story ever.
One of Grisham’s Best. Great story that is one of Grisham’s best. I love the ending!
Same Old, Same Old - Its great!. Another great read by Mr. Dependability! I forget how well he writes until I end up reading a couple of good, but not great novels by others. Then I open a Grisham and boom! I’m immediately pulled into the story and devour it in a couple of days!
Slow, unimaginative.. See above
A disappointment!. I’m sorry I wasted my money on it. It’s just boring. I always have to finish a book, but I’m quitting on this one.
We are. I have a few things going to do tomorrow to
Solid but not stellar. The breadth of the story leaves much of the characters' motivations and actions to the imagination of the reader. I know that Natchez isn't Biloxi, but I find Greg Iles' Penn Cage novels to be more compelling examples of modern Southern crime literature.
Boys front Biloxi. Always appreciate Grisham’s geographic, cultural and historic research, and think that he is pitch-perfect on the Mississippi Coast in the time and place of this novel. At the end, however, I was deflated by the sense that the third generation of his “good guys” family was headed to a self-righteous political summit without much understanding of how to do good for the residents of the state.
promise. promise
Not worth it. I struggled to get through the first few chapters. Why do I keep thinking he’s a good writer??
Great Book!. It starts fast, mellows out in the middle and then the bombs go off and it finishes ver strong!
Great story!. Great story, excellent characters!
Loved in the end. I thought the beginning was slow and hard to stick with but knew in the end, I wouldn’t be able to put it down.
Ok but not his best. A bit slow, lots of names and details, came together at the end but a bit of a slog
Amazing!. Bring from Mobile and the Gulf Coast this book was truly riveting. My grandmother was quite a wild lady, and she could have easily rivaled with Ginger and the Carousel Club. I couldn’t put the book down once I started reading it.
The Boys From Boloxie. Just OK. Long and somewhat plodding. The end was both disappointing and predictable.
The Boys from Biloxi. Dragged on, found myself rooting for the bad guys.
Boys from biloxi. Typical Grisham read….. pretty predictable
