The Exchange by John Grisham Book Summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • John Grisham delivers high-flying international suspense in a stunning new legal thriller that marks the return of Mitch McDeere, the brilliant hero of The Firm.

What became of Mitch and Abby McDeere after they exposed the crimes of Memphis law firm Bendini, Lambert & Locke and fled the country? The answer is in The Exchange, the riveting sequel to The Firm, the blockbuster thriller that launched the career of America’s favorite storyteller. It is now fifteen years later, and Mitch and Abby are living in Manhattan, where Mitch is a partner at the largest law firm in the world. When a mentor in Rome asks him for a favor that will take him far from home, Mitch finds himself at the center of a sinister plot that has worldwide implications—and once again endangers his colleagues, friends, and family. Mitch has become a master at staying one step ahead of his adversaries, but this time there’s nowhere to hide.

Not great. Narrator on a he audiobook is horrible. Also not Grishman’s best

Not what I had expected….. Not bad and not great. Anticlimactic ending.

Don’t Bother. I used to devour John Grisham’s novels. This book is a sequel to The Firm in name only; the only thing that ties the two books together are the names of Mitch and Abigail McDeere. Not worth the time or money, quite frankly.

Worst Grisham novel yet. What on earth was Grishman thinking? This novel was dull and plodding, an absolute waste of time and money.

Annoying and pointless. Reading this book is like watching a cheap horror movie. You spend most of the time screaming at the actors not to make stupid mistakes.

Just meh…a disappointment. Not going to spoil the plot, but it’s billed as a sequel to The Firm. It’s not. And when I finished, I literally said out loud “that’s it?” Disappointed for sure.

The Exchange didn’t offer much. Read like a rejected Clive Cussler novel was revised to fit the spot… low quality plot, pointless details, missing an ending other than the obvious Really poor effort to end the Firm story. He may offer addn books but I recommend a hard pass and look up authors who put in more effort

Not like his others. So pedestrian. Very little legal nuance. Very few twists and turns. Basically reads a summary of events. Not even sure Grisham wrote it.

Too long for the plot. I enjoyed the update on the main characters but this book was to long for the plot and the ending was disappointing.

Poor ending. This book had lots of potential but the ending was terrible. There were many lose ends and no plot twist of any kind.

Just okay. Boring ending, felt like it didn’t tie up all of the loose ends

The Exchange. Booooring.

Not worth the time. Disappointing! Never thought I’d give a poor review to this author but after preordering & the various reviews & interviews…….I expected a good read…….it was not enjoyable. Only finished it to see if there was a twist coming, unfortunately not.

I read this book so you won’t have to.. It’s horrible. John does not write International Thrillers. Well, he did but not very well at all. So yes, we get the back story on Mitch McDeere. Not completely believable. We are in NYC, London, Tripoli, Rome, Maine, Cayman Islands, Marrakech…. Did I leave any out? All this from a man who a large majority of his books are written in Memphis and Mississippi. It’s truly sad that he tried to continue with Mitch and Abby and failed. The “story” itself leaves a lot of holes. Nothing gets answered.

Worst Grisham book ever?. What a waste of time. Major disappointment. Just super boring.

Meh. It seems like a cheap shot to resurrect Abby and Mitch NcDeer for such a weak piece of fiction. Grisham was once a great writer, but sadly over the past 2 decades he has proven that his best years are far behind him. This was a real snooze fest. I feel asleep several times while reading, and that doesn’t say much for a “thriller “. Take a pass on this, go reread The Firm, it’s actually good.

Very disappointed. We have both read every book Grisham wrote and are fans. This was the worst book he has written, no question for us. Save your money, wait at the library. Also in total conflict wit the 28 episode mini series.

The story just goes on, and on, and on . .. Not as thrilling as most of Jack Reacher’s other books . . and after pages and pages of flying here, there, and everywhere . . trying to come up with the money to pay the ransom of a kidnapped colleague, overseas . . the ending is 2 pages!! I think instead of Mr. Grisham writing his next book, he should seriously consider retirement.

Not sure why it was written. Pretty bland and never got the plot ramped up to be like the firm.

The Exchange. Pretty good read. While fairly predictable, I was disappointed in the ending.

Big Disappointment. This book read like a giant Readers Digest story. It was the book you buy for the cross country plane trip. It can. Be summarized at Wealthy attorney kidnapped for ransom. Money raised. Hostage released. Now, add 43 chapters of filler. Grisham fell off Mount Rushmore.

Weak. Phoned this one in …. Disappointing follow up of a great book.

Firm Pass. What was that?

Pointless. No law no thrills

Disappointing. I’m a Grisham fan who was looking forward to reading this book. I could only manage to get through a few chapters before giving up. I regret the purchase.

Sad Read. Lots of updates, but poor plot… come on Mr. Grisham, you could do better!

The Exchange. Excellent read. Typical Grisham book. Couldn't put it down!

Not his best work.. Ranks last out of the 15 or so Grisham books I have read. Mitch traveling all over the world left little time to develop characters. If they made a movie out of this, 50% would be filmed on a plane or at an airport.

Big Law. Suspense and a different twist on law firms. Mitch and Abby are enduring folks.

Disappointing The Exchange. Who were the bad guys. Disappointed in whole book.
