Cross my heart. First time ever I have been disappointed in a Patterson story. I want a story to end. I do not want to wait for another book to Be written to know the ending. It looks like you want to be sure Your next book will be purchased. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!

Not good!. I cannot believe he ended this book this way! I am a huge Patterson fan and was thoroughly disappointed. It's as though he could not think of an ending so he just quit there. I really hope he makes up for it in the next one!

Been away from Alex for awhile. I took a break from Alex Cross for awhile as I got wrapped up in other characters / books. But reading this story, my admiration returned. An excellent story which kept me up too late so I could finish. My boss will not be happy with you, Mr. Patterson; but I thank you.

Cross my heart. This book is absolutely the biggest disappointment . Mr. Patterson, you must be in need of money to have abandoned your readers to this , sad you have lost your ability to story tell. Sad , just sad!

Cross my heart. I have been a fan and I have read every book published by Jp. I have loved them. This one I felt cheated, like I bought half a book just to make me buy another. Or I paid for this book and I got an excerpt. So very disappointed.

Really!!!. My first Patterson book and this is what he does, unbelievable! Maybe I should of just waited for a crappy screenplay. "True to myself", "to pull through this", you got to be kidding me. Now I refuse to buy the sequel, as another commenter wrote, sadly I don't really care what happen to Mr. Cross now.......

Cheap trick. Great read until the end. Patterson, you already make enough money not to cheat your readers into having to buy the next book to find out the ending. Shame on you!

No more loyalty. I have been a loyal fan of James Patterson for years. This is the 2nd time he has run this scam. First with a recent Michael Bennett book and now with this Alex Cross. Obviously Mr Patterson believes he's smarter than his readers and can get away with it. Guess I'm no longer a loyal reader of his books.

Cross my Heart. So glad I got this book from my local library. It is the only way I will read future Patterson books. Do not buy this book, while suspenseful, the ending was terrible. Isn't Patterson rich enough? Does he really need to stoop to the trick of forcing a sequel?

TERRIBLE ENDING. WHAT A WASTE OF MY MONEY. Patterson must have been late for the editor's deadline. The storyline is very good but there is no conclusion - are you kidding me ? David Balducci for me !!

Are you kidding me?. I paid for a WHOLE story. That means you have to include an ending. I feel ripped off. I will not buy the next book that supposedly includes the ending of this book. That's just a way to deceive and cheat your fans.

Cross My Heart. Apparently, some people have no shame, but disguise it behind "being true to you, the readers... More like you, the suckers that JP thinks will be dumb enough to buy the rest of this book that JP was either too lazy or greedy to finish - or both!

Cross my Heart. This is only half the book! Ends mid story and you need to wait till next book is issued. Suggest waiting to purchase this first book until the second half is published. Disappointed with non ending.

How much $$ do you need, mr P?. First of all, I only read your books when I've already read the works of great authors like Connelly, Greg Iles, and Kathy Reichs and I'm extremely bored. Your stories are simple and mildly entertaining. But what the hell? At least you could have titled the book with a "part 1" to indicate that the whole story will not be concluded in this one book. But no, you have to trick people into buying another book if they want closure to this story. You are a mediocre author with no shame!

Long time fan giving up. I feel deceived by the ending. I've read every single Alex Cross book and this one is by far the most disappointing. I will probably never know what happens to Alex Cross' family because I am not going to spend the money tone scammed again. It was a good ride though. Peace.

To the people complaining.... To the people complaining it was a ripoff, the Alex Cross books are a SERIES. If you're an actual James Patterson fan, you know that and would be buying the next book in the series anyway. Quit whining. That said, I found the story to be gripping and very hard to put down. I was very surprised at the ending, but felt curious and intrigued, not angry and bitter like some whiners here. If you are a fan of the Alex across series, you won't be disappointed.

Skip it. Read all Cross series books. This one was no up to par, bad ending. I am done with the series, not worthy the time.

Cross my heart.... I was surprised at the ending....but for all the people who give this book a bad rating, is this the first and only book you've read by Patterson? So, the ending left you hanging....ok. I don't think he did the book this way to make more money or scam us...he did it to continue the saga, the ongoing saga that Im always checking in on...no matter how it ends. In this world of instantaneous fulfillment, perhaps we've forgotten the art of suspense. Glad Patterson hasn't. I can't wait to see how the next book is....just like EVERY book by him. I guess I'm a true fan.

Cross My Heart. Very disappointing! I didn't like the way the book ended. It left you wondering about Crosses family . Were they safe, was the bad guy caught? Even though more is promised in future books, I want a conclusion to this book now. One of my favorite writers has let me down.

Part 1. You need to wait for Part. 2 sequel. Great read.... But to find out the end you have to pay again for the sequel. Not worth the price.

Unexpected turn at every corner. Yet another unbelievable gut-wrenching thriller. Patterson does an unbelievable job of bringing his characters to life. Really a page turned you won’t want to out down.

Alex cross isn't Stupid. Ok I hated this book - Patterson has Alex cross missing about a thousand clues along the way then ends it with no ending. I usually like all of these books in this series but I feel he got lazy in the story line...

Get it at the library. Spoiler: there is no ending. The writing is choppy and you don't know what happens to Alex's family after they all get kidnapped. It's ridiculous. Instead there is a trite author's note to tell you that there will be another book to buy. I am disappointed. I agree with the other reviewers who maintain that JP needs to give us an entire book for the amount of $ we spend. Don't bother buying this book. Get it at the library instead if interested, and only after the next one comes out, so you can read the entire story. This is the last JP novel I will ever pre-order. I recommend buying The God's Guilt by Michael Connelly instead.

Really?. Was it a good read......yes. Having read most of James Patterson's writing, I feel I'm finally disappointed enough to probably stop reading him (since it seems he's probably not writing so much as he's just editing the "co-authors" writing now) due to the fact that "the authors" were either too lazy to finish this book ( perhaps) or,more likely,are just too greedy (it seems like they just cut the book in half so we'd be duped into buying the last half). So one star for greed or laziness. Either way, thumbs down. Don't buy this "book". Sorry James, you've just become disappointing.

No way to treat loyal readers. This book is exactly what Patterson readers love and hope for in his books. Right up until the point where it ends and leaves you wondering if there was a technical malfunction that prevented the entire book from downloading. It's 3/4 of a book. This is beyond cliffhanger. It's like Patterson was trying to make a publishing deadline and just turned in what he had. Very disappointing and not worth the money spent.

Cross my What.....?. Dirty trick to sell the sequel! Don't know if I will purchase another from Patterson. Doesn't even bother to tell you the name or release date of the next book! I agree with many of the other reviews, that this book was more of a cut and paste novel with multiple story lines...doesn't play!

Stupid Ending or rather no ending!!. This is so out of character for Patterson & I am so disappointed in him in this book. Unbelievable to me that he would leave us in limbo with no idea when or if we will ever know what happens to Alex's family. James must be getting senile in his old age. Maybe he should give up the writing. Perhaps he thinks he wrote an ending.

I don't care anymore how it ends. Screw Alex cross and his family and James Patterson for becoming a commercial hack.

Prof Connie. Patterson, your readers deserve an entire story, not an excuse why you ended prematurely. And don't pretend there was some deep philosophical meaning in stopping at that point; you just quit! Totally disappointing!!

Cross my Heart. Pure James Patterson. An excellent read from start to finish. The story will pull you in whether you have read all the Alex Cross novels or none of them.

Thanks for the warnings. Always been a big Patterson fan/customer. But with all the warnings on this book it will be my second pass. Mistress got terrible reviews as well. Mr. Patterson needs to go back to writing his own books as it seems that he has lost control of the content.

Darkest book yet.. Yes, it's true that the book doesn't officially end...but don't despair. It's been a long time since Patterson gave us a real arch villain for Cross to bring down...think of his earlier books. He better be writing the next installment because this story was great!

I have read everything you have written - and have become more and more disappointed - most books are co- authored - you are turning out book after book- obviously in it for the money- Your latest Alex Cross book really stinks- I bought it even after reading the terrible reviews- my mistake! Patterson is the consummate salesman. This book is a very quick read. It appears that Patterson probably wrote it himself unlike some of his other novels. The book is nothing more than a tease written to fatten patterson's wallet. If he lengthened the story brought it to a satisfying conclusion I wouldn't feel so taken advantage of.......well I won't be buying anymore of his books, the author has betrayed me for the last time. This novella is the equivalent of a tv sitcom cliffhanger. Do not buy it here....if you must buy it for a dollar in a used book store six months from now. Patterson your disrespect for your readers is disgusting.

I agree with many others.The ending left me disappointed and angry.To invest so much time with the characters and then have the author leave me hanging with nonsense about being true to his characters and the story.I found to be absurd.This was a ploy to sell more books or he was to lazy to finish it.

Tired of it. Alex should have found a new line of work long ago. The endless storylines in which criminals have a personal vendetta against him are just not credible. He is supposed to love his family so much, yet consistently puts them in danger. The icing on the cake is the fact that this book doesn't even finish the story. Ridiculous.

Cross My Heart. I had anticipated the next Alex Cross instalment for weeks only to be bitterly disappointed. The lack of direction and stumbling plot could be best described as Cross eyed and unfocused. I am hoping things will get back on track for the finale!!!

Where's the Ending?!!!!. I'm a big James Patterson fan, have read most of his books. This book is another stay-up-all-night page-turner, but the ending is HORRIBLE! Almost non-existent. It's basically "to be continued." And the next book isn't even released yet. I paid good money for this book, and I feel cheated that there was no ending!

Where's the ending?. I would not bother reading this until part 2 comes out. With very little warning you are left hanging. While I'm sure it's lucrative for the author and publisher to do things this way I'm not sure that I will ever bother reading another of his books as it shows little respect for the reader.
