Simple Dreams by Linda Ronstadt Book Summary

In this memoir, iconic singer Linda Ronstadt weaves together a captivating story of her origins in Tucson, Arizona, and her rise to stardom in the Southern California music scene of the 1960s and ‘70s.

Tracing the timeline of her remarkable life, Linda Ronstadt, whose forty-five year career has encompassed a wide array of musical styles, weaves together a captivating story of her origins in Tucson, Arizona, and her rise to stardom in the Southern California music scene of the 1960s and ‘70s.

Linda Ronstadt was born into a musical family, and her childhood was filled with everything from Gilbert and Sullivan to Mexican folk music to jazz and opera. Her artistic curiosity blossomed early, and she and her siblings began performing their own music for anyone who would listen. Now, in this beautifully crafted memoir, Ronstadt tells the story of her wide-ranging and utterly unique musical journey.

Ronstadt arrived in Los Angeles just as the folkrock movement was beginning to bloom, setting the stage for the development of country-rock. As part of the coterie of like-minded artists who played at the famed Troubadour club in West Hollywood, she helped define the musical style that dominated American music in the 1970s. One of her early backup bands went on to become the Eagles, and Linda went on to become the most successful female artist of the decade.

In Simple Dreams, Ronstadt reveals the eclectic and fascinating journey that led to her long-lasting success, including stories behind many of her beloved songs. And she describes it all in a voice as beautiful as the one that sang “Heart Like a Wheel”—longing, graceful, and authentic.

SIMPLE DREAMS-Awesome musical memoir. I loved this book. I'll probably read it again in a few weeks. Linda is a national treasure and so glad she still can inspire us all even after her diagnosis. Linda, you are truly an inspiration. Thank you for the music and for your memoir.

Linda Ronstadt Simply Wonderful!. This was an intriguing look into one of my favorite singers. I learned how specific she choose to be and how her technique had grown through the years. She conveyed how difficult it was to be a perfectionist, expecting so much out of herself. I thoroughly enjoyed this!

ok, but where's the personal stiff?. I was hoping to get more information about her personal life. I was dissappointed that she glossed over most all of her relationships. I was hoping to find out how she met up with JD Souther, Jackson Browne, Boylan, Lucas and Jerry Brown. - What happened in those relationships? Why is it she never maried? I'd like to know the stories behind her 2 kids. I love Linda Ronstadt. Her beauty and her singing are timeless. - I just wanted to learn more.

Simple Dreams. This book was interesting, as far as it went, but revealed little of her personal adult life. She is very guarded in this memoir, which was ultimately unsatisfying.

Thanks for the music, Linda!!. I've listened to and watched Linda for years, and she's awesome. It was refreshing to read about the music and not about gossip. It was an enjoyable read to see how she evolved as an artist and selected her music choices. Her songs helped me in happy and sad times to move forward. Hands down she has earned a place in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame! Thanks Linda for sharing your talent with us!

Audio Book coming out???. Hope the publisher gets someone to read this book into an audio book.

Extraordinary. Linda Ronstadt’s music has been a central part of the soundtrack of my life so it is not surprising that her memoir should be anything short of extraordinary. The narrative is straightforward and almost brutally candid. The breadth of her influence on popular music of many genres is astonishing and becomes clear in the discography section. Brava!

Simple Dreams. Enjoyed the book very much. Would have like a little more about her family and growing up but she seemed to be happy with what she did with her life! Still a fan!

Excellent!!!!!!. Don't even think twice and read this gem. One of the best memoirs i have read. This is a book that will be of interest to not only Linda's fans but music lovers in general. As you will see for yourself Linda Ronstadt is not only arguably the best singer ever recorded, with a voice so exquisite it borders in hypnotic but sweet Linda is also a music scholar. Love it !!!!!!

G P Hansen. Prospective readers should know that this book is not an autobiography, in the usual sense, but rather a detailed outline of Linda's career. The book is very long on the history of her supporting cast of various record producers, music arrangers, tour promoters and vocal collaborators. However, hardly is there a word about the personal side of her life, save frequent sentimental references to her extended Arizona family. We learn nothing of her adult relationships, much less any hint of romantic bliss or disappointment. This book offers a sanitized recounting of Linda's life in the bubbles of the recording studio and the concert tours. About life beyond her fantastic music career, Linda is so guarded as to be secretive. Regarding her children, we learn only that she has two-----formed from thin air, apparently. For those fans seriously interested in the many prosaic details involved in producing a Linda Ronstadt album, Simple Dreams should be elucidating and satisfying. For others who were hoping to learn more of this woman whose amazing voice and sexy cuteness took her to rock stardom, Simple Dreams offers little of interest. If this book were a music video, it would show Linda primly rehearsing musical scales, while this fan was hoping for a full-throated "Heat Wave".

Simple Dreams. I grew up and came of age listening to Linda Ronstadt's music. I bought every album she produced. Some of it I liked more than others, but never did she disappoint me. She set a high bar that even today no other performer has yet to reach. The only time she let me down was when she, in interviews, dismissed all those albums and hits from her heyday in the mid to late 70's-these we're the albums and songs that made her a star and ones that resonated most with me. This book was great in that it gives you a peek into the mind of the performer and the motivation behind her singing. She teases us with just a little of the 70's "Queen of Rock" bit, I just wish she would have opened up the door a bit more and told us more about the songs and albums from that period - the songs that meant so much to me growing up (and still do.)

Great Read. A delightful look at the artistry of Linda Ronstadt's entire career. Has there ever been a more complete singer? From childhood influences that led to folk, to country, to rock, to pop, to opera, to the Great American Songbook, to Ranchera, to Afro-Cuban, to jazz, and some genres I'm forgetting . . . and those amazing musical partnerships with the likes of Emmylou, Dolly, JD Souther, and others: it's all in here. Just a fascinating read at how a most versatile artist pulled it all off and kept it all together. Loved every word of it. Written by the artist who lived each page, it's an incredible journey told by an able storyteller who has done it all musically.

Simple Dreams. I've loved Linda's voice since Different Drum, and have sung along with her ever since. I enjoyed her memoir too, I only wish she had expanded on her Rock years--Late 70's music as they truly did define her. Whether she likes it or not!

Still a fan after all theses years!. I grew up with Linda Ronstadt! Heart like a wheel and Prisoner in Disguise were albums that played endlessly on my stereo in my room. Linda introduced me to the music of Jackson Brown, JD Souther and the Eagles! It was awesome to read how Linda and all this incredible musical talent hung out and jammed together while finding their voices and their way in the early 70's. I'm happy her voice and her songs were the soundtrack of my teenage years and into my adult life. Thanks Linda!

Zzzzzzzz. Bought this autobiography?? As I thought like any autobiography it would be about life, music romances and family. I was very disappointed to read that it was basically an opportunity for Linda to mention every drummer guitarist and singer she ever played with. I was hoping to find out about what she's up to now and her health but nothing. Read many auto bios but sorry to say this was the worst. Save your money.

A very sweet gentle autobiography. Linda Ronstadt fans will enjoy this book. She covers her life and times in chronological order, giving insight into how she makes music, along with some modest snippets of her personal life, which she mostly leaves out - which is understandable. I enjoy her music so found the discussions of her music and how she made it interesting. There is nothing controversial, and she seems like a ‘normal’ person compared to the run of the mill musicians and the like who fill up the media with bad behaviour.
