Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story—and survive this homecoming.

- Blah1 star

Got more enjoyment reading the plot through Wikipedia than reading the book.

- Love a good plot twist5 star

This is the first book I’ve read all the way through in my whole life. Kept me interested the whole time.

- Excellent5 star

Absolutely loved this book. I thought the story was beautifully told and on top of the great writing style that makes you want to keep reading, the ending isnt something you are just waiting for. The ENTIRE story is great. Thought the TV show did it SOME justice, did’t like what they changed in the show but the acting, setting and direction was great. Book was GREAT and the show was also, but personally prefer the book to the show.

- Not as impressed as I thought2 star

I am typically interested in these types of books and was very excited to read Sharp Objects because of the great reviews I’ve heard/read. Unfortunately, I kept waiting for the book to get “good” as I read. I felt like the only exciting part of the book that everyone wants to read didn’t occur until the last 20 pages or so.

- Addicting5 star

I’m not a huge book worm, but I couldn’t put the book down! It’s a must read thriller that involves twists in turns. It is very dark at times but worth reading.

- Chilling4 star

Honestly, this is the first book I almost put down. I actually had to take a mental break from the darkness. After telling myself that a good book cannot go unfinished, I continued. I’m so glad I did. Challenging the darkest parts of humanity, Sharp Objects keeps readers invested (even if that investment is painful at times) and curious.

- Sharp Objects4 star

The first book I read by Gillian Flynn was Dark Places and it had me from start to finish. This wasn’t as good of a book compared to DP for me, but still very good.

- The show doesn’t compare!4 star

I watched the show and decided to read the book because I hated how the show ended. My friend said the book was really good and it was a quick read and explained a few things that you wouldn’t get from watching the series.

- My review on Sharp objects5 star

I have given this book five stars because I personally really liked it, and it was the first book I was able to finish in a long while. I also enjoyed the characters and how well they were portrayed in the book. Gillian Flynn really knew how to depict each scene perfectly, too. Because each scene from the book was as if I was watching a movie or a show. And yes, I do know that Sharp Objects is also a show on HBO, and I like both the show and the book and finish both of them. But that brings me to my point where there were times I imagined a scene from the book and was so convinced it was, in fact, a scene from the HBO tv series because of how well I envisioned it in my head. For instance, there was one particular scene I read when Allen Crellin (the father of Camille and Amma) was sitting at the table in the morning and eating egg yolks in a bowl with a spoon. As to why he was eating raw eggs, I don’t know? But that scene in the book was so vivid and so imaginative in my head I thought for certain that I have seen that particular scene from the show itself.

- Read it5 star

Amazing. Raw and nasty. Wicked

- If you love the series, you’ll love this book5 star

I went backwards — I saw the HBO series with one of my all-time favorites, Amy Adams, before I read the book. I knew the plot and I still couldn’t put it down. Gillian Flynn did it to me with her other two and now she’s done it again. This book will hook you from beginning to end and since it’s so short, you can finish it in a few days. I really love how the end of her show/movie are different from the book endings. Really sparks a debate!

- Loved it.5 star

So dark. And so good.

- Dumb1 star

It’s a dumb story that isn’t well written. I only finished the book because I held out hope they would make this story into an HBO series because it was good, somehow. Sadly, I wasted my time. The ending is obvious and frankly insulting to my intelligence. Read if you want to complain about a book.

- A good read!4 star

This may be the only book that I like less than its TV adaptation. However, I still think it’s a fine book, especially if you enjoy books that are on the darker side. The protagonist is complex yet strangely endearing despite the fact that she’s deeply troubled. Overall, I’d recommend Sharp Objects to anyone!

- Amazing!!!!5 star

It’s too good. Small town murder mystery.. MUST READ!!! It’s just too good ❤️

- Amazing!5 star

I love this author!! I could not put the book down .. she paints a picture of a truly dysfunctional family! It’s dark and all around a great mystery!!

- What?!?!5 star

Loved the ending.

- Twisting Turns until the very end4 star

I had to read this book before the HBO Series premiered. It didn’t disappoint. Page turner after gripping page turner.

- Great Read5 star

This was the first Gillian Flynn book I ever read and I have to say, I am hooked. The storyline, the writing style. It was all amazing. Flynn does an excellent job bringing you into the story. This is one book I wouldn’t mind reading again and again!

- Good book4 star

This book was good, but nowhere near as heart-stopping as Gone Girl. Perhaps that was the point? I loved the big twist/revelation at the end...did NOT see that one coming! I also loved that the main character was so realistically flawed. It made for an interesting ride!

- Sharp Objects5 star

Excellent read. Creepy & exciting. Couldn’t wait to find out who the culprit was - clever twist.

- Pretentious, boring, predictable.1 star

The writing is so tedious and amateur I found physically myself cringing every page or two. I also knew how it was going to end by page 34 when the author basically spells it out for you in bold letters. I also have to say: Flynn’s copious and irrelevant descriptions of young teenage girls’ body parts really bothered me in this. It took a turn for the bizarre when I realized they weren’t necessary at all for character development, plot, or gaining an understanding of how the narrator thinks—WHY would she be thinking that way literally any time she sees a young girl? They started to sound more like the author speaking and less like the narrator (Camille). You don’t need to describe a girl’s every body part, down to her “downy” “coltish” legs and what kind of bra she’s wearing, every time you introduce one into the scene or refer back to her. It borders on obsession, and made me embarrassed and uncomfortable for the author.

I couldn’t stop reading this book. It was very entertaining- so much so that I had to do a quick binge read just to see what happens in the end !!! Highly recommended.

- Creepily unbelieveable1 star

Read the whole psychotic book. Something kept me there. Best points: It did have a many twists and turns. Negative points: Not much depth to characters and plot was hard to buy into so I could not empathize with the protagonist. One of the many bad mystery/crazy girls books of late.

- Creepy4 star

Good book. I don't know how the author thinks of these things but it keeps you on edge.

- Sharp Objects!!!2 star

This book is full of mysteries and twist of characters where it describe crime, blood, self harm and mental illness. If you are overly fond of mysteries and okay with psychotic issues of how the novel will evolve then this book is for you but if your not very fond of extreme mysteries and crimes then this book is not for you. I find this book disturbing but an okay overall novel. But it really depends on the readers, some love it and some is just okay with it.

- Creeeepy5 star

Great read , creepy from start to finish. Would recommend for sure if you love a good mystery/thriller

Gone Girl was excellent. Ms. Flynn’s other books are too dark, depressing and depraved. I don’t recommend.

- Great read!!!5 star

I was already bias after reading Dark Places, so I jumped right into this. Finished the book in 2 days, could not put it down. The plot just thickens and thickens. Although the very ending was completely predictable to me (I read a lot of mystery books).

- Very slow, very predictable1 star

I love a good dark novel, but this was just so predictable. I’d figured out the ending around half way through the book - and I’m normally terrible at that sort of thing. Very disappointing.

- An engrossing psychological thriller4 star

Sharp objects a surprisingly engaging murder mystery with shocking twist and turns. With an atmosphere of dread and complex protagonist. That never relies on cliches and predictable reveals.

- On the edge of the seat!4 star

Sharper objects.

- Not as good as her other ones1 star

I loved Gone Girl! So much that I read it twice! I have read almost all of her other books and tried this one out. Disappointed. Pretty boring, annoying. Some of the characters, I did not even understand why they did the things that they did! In the beginning, it was pretty interesting, getting to know the characters and such, the middle was ok, but the ending was just terrible. It did not make sense and I spent the whole night wondering, “But, why would she do that?” Would not recommend this book to anyone!

- Disturbing1 star

I read all of the reviews and expected this book to be amazing. It was disturbing and depressing. I do not recommend this book. The is a fabulous writer. I was hooked after the first page. The content and depth sickness is not something I would recommend to anyone. I made myself finish the book and should have put it down after the third chapter. DO NOT BUY this book unless you want to be disturbed and sad.

- A must-read5 star

Sharp Objects is a must-read for all fans of Gillian Flynn, psychological thrillers, and/or mystery novels. Great story line, keeps you guessing until the very end.

- Yawn2 star

This book is well written and has great character development. But got boring in a hurry. It was to over the top for me.

- It's ok3 star

So-so character development. Predictable plot.

- 😳5 star

I had a pretty good idea early on who was involved with the murders, but it didn't stop me from powering through. I loved Gone Girl and loved this one as well. On to the next one!!

- Dark and Twisty5 star

Such a good read. Would never have guessed the ending!

- Not the suspenseful thriller I hoped to read.2 star

Camille was a journalist for the Chicago Daily Post. Camille was an amateur writer falling short on expectations. Her boss wanting a story that will make headline news, sent Camille back to her hometown to write a story about the killing of two young girls. Camille was from Wind Gap, Missouri. The town consisted of five police officers and was ill-equipped to handle brutal crime scenes. A detective from Kansas City was brought in to investigate the murders. These brutal murders of two young girls caused scandalous gossip between townsfolk. With both the detective asking questions and Camille researching for her story they sent the community in a tailspin. All the characters seem to hold an incriminating suspicion about them. This small town was full of secrecy and craziness. Camille's character profiled the townsfolk pissing off her righteous mother. Her welcome back home was met with questioning glares. Once her identity was revealed Camille became an outsider. While I appreciate the assiduous process of detailing every character by showcasing their flaws it became tiresome and boring after awhile. Camille's character overshadowed the thrilling detective story I craved. Instead, Camille's problems pulled the reader away from her inadequate ability to write a crime story about her hometown. Camille's hometown pumped out improperly raised people according to society's standards. Wind Gap was stagnant and a non-progressive community where diseased minded people suffered from boredom. The discovery of the killer was anti-climatic. The process at disclosing the truth was arduous and mundane. I did not feel satisfied or fulfilled by having read this story. In fact, I hoped for a suspenseful thriller instead I was left emotionally drained.

- Meh3 star

I felt like I had to read through a lot of jargon/crap to get to the main points. The ending could have at least been more detailed. After reading bs forever I would have liked the revelation to been slower and detailed. It just wasn't a major shock and all this talk about her scars and nothing more was done about it, I mean the book is named after a razor and you're think they would go back to it. I wouldn't recommend this book ugh.

- Her Best Novel5 star

This is by far my favorite Gillian Flynn book. Even better than Gone Girl. Wish I could read it again for the first time.

- Creepy3 star

This book is very creepy. I didn't find the ending to be surprising.

- Great read5 star

I couldn't put it down & was sad there wasn't more when I finished. It's twisted and addicting.

- So good!5 star

Great book, couldn't put it down! Another twisted thriller, I would highly recommend reading this!

- So close to being great3 star

The beginning and middle of the book were great; I was dying to know what was going to happen. But the end felt rushed and I felt as though the end deserved to be written in a different, better way.
