The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth Book Summary

THE CLASSIC THRILLER FROM #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR FREDERICK FORSYTH

“The Day of the Jackal makes such comparable books such as The Manchurian Candidate and The Spy Who Came in from the Cold seem like Hardy Boy mysteries.”—The New York Times

The Jackal. A tall, blond Englishman with  opaque, gray eyes. A killer at the top of his  profession. A man unknown to any secret service in the  world. An assassin with a contract to kill the  world's most heavily guarded man.

One  man with a rifle who can change the course of  history. One man whose mission is so secretive not  even his employers know his name. And as the  minutes count down to the final act of execution, it  seems that there is no power on earth that can stop  the Jackal.

The day of the J. This is the best book I have ever enjoyed

Gripping Mystery. This book grabs you early on and holds your attention throughout with unforeseen turns and high tension even though you know from history the ultimate outcome. Wonderfully written and fun to read.

All Time Great Thriller!. In its structure, pacing, plot and characters, DOTJ stands out as one of, perhaps THE greatest thrillers of all time. The movie based on the book - the original with Edward Fox, not the horrendous monstrosity with Bruce Willis - is also superb. When one reads Forsyth, one recalls what a great writer in an oft-maligned genre can achieve.

Mostly good. Great story , although sometimes had the tendency of dragging on as the author goes into great detail explaining minor characters at great length . Also goes into a lot of detail explaining locations that unless you are familiar with Paris only end up confusing you. I found the Jackal himself to be the best part of the story, he’s smart and methodical. Although it could have had a better ending . I found myself somewhat unsatisfied. All in all I definitely enjoyed reading this book!
