A Little Thing Called Life by Linda Thompson Book Summary

Award-winning songwriter Linda Thompson breaks her silence, sharing the extraordinary story of her life, career, and epic romances with two of the most celebrated, yet enigmatic, modern American superstars—Elvis Presley and Bruce Jenner

For the last forty years, award-winning songwriter Linda Thompson has quietly led one of the most remarkable lives in show business. The longtime live-in love of Elvis Presley, Linda first emerged into the limelight during the 1970s when the former beauty pageant queen caught the eye of the King. Their chance late-night encounter at a movie theater was the stuff of legend, and it marked the beginning of a whirlwind that would stretch across decades, leading to a marriage with Bruce Jenner, motherhood, and more drama than she ever could have imagined.

Now, for the first time, Linda opens up about it all, telling the full story of her life, loves, and everything in between. From her humble beginnings in Memphis to her nearly five-year relationship with Elvis, she offers an intimate window into their life together, describing how their Southern roots fueled and sustained Graceland’s greatest romance. Going inside their wild stories and tender moments, she paints a portrait of life with the King, as raucous as it is refreshing. But despite the joy they shared, life with Elvis also had darkness, and her account also presents an unsparing look at Elvis’s twin demons—drug abuse and infidelity—forces he battled throughout their time together that would eventually end their relationship just eight months before his untimely death.

It was in the difficult aftermath of Elvis’s death that Linda found what she believed was her true home: the arms of Olympic gold medal—winner Bruce Jenner. Detailing her marriage to Bruce, Linda reveals the seemingly perfect life that they built with their two young sons—Brandon and Brody—before Bruce changed everything with a secret he’d been carrying his entire life, a secret that Linda herself kept for nearly thirty years, a secret that Bruce’s transition to Caitlyn Jenner has finally laid bare for the world. Providing a candid look inside one of the most challenging moments of her life, Linda uncovers the struggles she went through as a woman and a mother, coming to terms with the reality of Bruce’s identity and resolving to embrace him completely no matter what, even as it meant they could no longer be together.
And yet, despite her marriage unraveling, her search for love was not over, eventually leading her to the legendary music producer and musician David Foster—a relationship that lasted for nineteen tumultuous years, resulting in a bond that spurred her songwriting career to new heights but also tested her like never before. Filled with compelling and poignant stories and sixteen pages of photographs, A Little Thing Called Life lovingly recounts Linda’s incredible journey through the years, bringing unparalleled insight into three legendary figures.

Heartfelt and honest. I loved this book and this woman's life. You won't be able to put it down

A Beautiful person. Linda Thompson shares her story of her loves in a beautiful, loving, and compassionate way. Her acceptance of other’s flaws is truly inspirational. While Linda is so accepting, she doesn’t forget about loving herself, managing to extract herself from damaging relationships before she loses herself completely.

Thoughts. Linda Thompson led an amazing life. That being said, this book contained far too many words in the form of flowery speech and her many claims of her selflessness and humility. The facts about Elvis and Bruce Jenner were interesting. Her on and on about herself; not so much. I plowed through though, and did find her celebrity name dropping interesting.

More like fiction. I did enjoy parts of this book although it is more fiction than non fiction. It is the most self-serving and self-promoting “autobiography” I’ve ever read. In every single situation in her life, Linda comes off smelling like a rose. Always understanding, always forgiving and always “protecting” her exes. I believe that her reaction to every situation described is the way she wishes she had reacted instead of her true reaction and feelings at the time. She self-describes herself as “the nicest person in the world”. Sorry to disappoint you, Linda, but you are human with human feelings, it’s too bad you couldn’t have revealed that in this book.

Great read!. One of the best autobiography's I have ever read! Honest and captivating!

A Little Thing Called Life. I enjoyed reading this book, learning things in life about Linda Thompson, Elvis, Bruce Jenner and David Foster. I already knew a lot of things in the book about Elvis because I've been a fan of Elvis forever, I actually got a kiss once when he was performing in Lake Tahoe and a blue scarf another time. I learned some new things about Bruce that I didn't already know but most of it has already been revealed, but still very good insight into Bruce's life. I learned a lot about David Foster, I kind of laughed about him wanting to be treated like a King because when he was married to Yolanda that's exactly how she treated him, at least that's how it was portrayed on The Housewives of Beverly Hills. Yolanda loved treating David like a King because I think it was her culture and she seemed to really enjoy it. I think her illness was why they got divorced because she could no longer treat him like the King he thought he was. Sad for Yolanda. I learned a lot about Linda Thompson other than being a beautiful lady, she's a beautiful person. I enjoyed reading this book, I give it 5 stars. Linda Lawrence

So many missing pieces of pop culture. This book is as riveting as I thought it would be. What a life!

Linda on how great she is,,,,. I have waited for Linda to write a book on Elvis for so long. I respect how much she really loved him and did her best to keep him from overdosing. But,,, Oh my goodness all through her marriage to Bruce then David she should be walking on water. She is the most Ego driven person she clearly thinks of her self as a Saint....

Linda is a natural storyteller! ❤️. Linda has an incredible way of telling a story, giving an honest point of you but still leaves you feeling how she felt. I loved every word! A must read!

A Little Thing Called Life. Excellent read! Heartfelt and honest.

Malibu. This book really stood out to me because I previously worked in Malibu and actually met some of the people who are mentioned in the book. It’s interesting to know what was going on in the background of those lives! Great book!

A Little Thing Called Love. This book flows very well. It's an easy read and it's almost like your there with her through her truths about her life. I read it in one day and couldn't put it down. I love how she wrote this book with a timeline of her life. Of course, the Elvis section was ,y favorite. But I felt like she was telling it in the most respectful way she could. As the reader you get the sense that each of these men that were in her life not only helped her to grow and gain insights about her own strength . They helped to shape her values. Her devotion to her family is beautiful. I would say one of my favorite reads this summer..

A Little Thing Called Life. As an Elvis fan, I already held Linda in high regard because it is well known she devoted her time with him to making sure he was well cared for. I did not know how accomplished she is in writing lyrics for some amazing songs. A woman of many talents she is also a good writer. The book is a winner!

Great book. I honestly enjoyed this book. Lots of wonderful emotions as I read it. I highly recommend it. Loved the photos at the end of iBook 😊

A thing called life. I really enjoyed reading about Linda Thompson and her life lessons of love, compassion, acceptance and understanding. A great read!

Smells like insecurity. It has been said several times by Elvis' close friends that elvis was never in love with Linda but only loved her as a person. Its so sad and obvious how much she emphasizes throughout the whole book on their " love" being mutual and how much elvis valued their relationship... Im pretty sure it was all one sided and the way she exaggerates the whole thing just validates how insecure she is

A Little Thing Called Life. I enjoyed reading this book. Your grace and beauty shine through the pages. Good for you, telling your truth on your terms.

Great read!. Her life is fascinating and inspiring.

Loved this book. Easy read. Very well written and very interesting.
