This Was a Man by Jeffrey Archer Book Summary

The seventh and final volume in Jeffrey Archer’s New York Times bestselling Clifton Chronicles series, This Was a Man, brings the epic saga of the Clifton family’s love, loss, and ambition to a dazzling conclusion.

Harry Clifton’s story began in 1920, as a dock worker in England, and now he is set to write his magnum opus. As he reflects on his days, the lives of his family continue to unfold, unravel, and intertwine in ways no one could have imagined . . .

Harry’s wife Emma, who just completed her time at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, receives a surprise call from Margaret Thatcher. Meanwhile, Giles Barrington discovers a shocking truth about his wife, Karin. Sebastian Clifton becomes chairman of Farthings Kaufman bank, but only after Hakim Bishara’s abrupt resignation. Sebastian’s daughter Jessica is expelled from school, but her aunt Grace comes to the rescue. And Lady Virginia, who is set to flee the country to avoid her creditors, finds an opportunity to clear her debts after the Duchess of Hertford dies—and a way to finally trump the Cliftons and Barringtons.

Fitting finish to a great series. Harry and Emma were loving, gracious and undeniably someone you would be proud to friend and emulate. Read the entire series in a couple of weeks and had a hard time putting it down at night. Can only hope to show my wife half the love Harry showed Emma.

Outstanding. The Clifton Chronicles are a fabulous read and worth every hour spent reading them. The tales of two families joining together thru thick and thin while at the same time guiding you through the current events. I’ll be rereading these books again

All Good things must come to an end. I have anxiously awaited each one of these books and must admit I cried at the end of this last one Were they a bit soap Opera-ish? Were they a tad predictable? Yes to both those questions but it didn't stop me fro savoring everyone of these books. The Story of Harry Clifton gets wrapped up. No loose ends. A happy ending of a life lived long and well.

This Was A Man. After reading the first two books in the trilogy this one was dull and extremely slow moving. Couldn't finish it.

Fantastic. I've read all the books in the Clifton series and loved each one. I felt the characters were my friends. I will miss them.

This Was a Man. A worthy conclusion to the Harry Clifton saga.

The Clifton chronicles. This series was a awesome series each book left you wanting to read the next book until you had finished the whole series. I hated to stop reading each book until I just had to stop or finish it. Loved the series.

Masterpiece!. Master story teller has done it again. Each time I think Archer has written his best, he starts another story I just can't put down. You don't just read this series you live it. Bravo!

This was a man. Very interesting, moves quickly, never boring. I like it.

A Fitting End. What a wonderful journey Jeffrey Archer has taken us on. The Clifton and Barrington story is epic, and Archer gives it an appropriate send-off. Thank you!

This Was. Man. I have travelled such a wonderful journey with this family. I cannot let them go. But unlike so many stories written this one is timeless. I will start at the beginning and read them all again. Thank you Jeffrey Archer you are truly a gifted writer.

This Was A Man. A brilliant conclusion to the Clifton Chronicles.

Bravo. What an amazing series. A treat to read but I would suggest not reading them too quickly, as you will find yourself so invested in these characters that you will miss them as I do now.

This Was A Man. The last book of the Clifton Chronicles was on my IPad waiting to be read for some time! I resisted until this past weekend in the early days of April, 2017. Archer has done it again! One of the best books, I've read in a long time! The end of the story filled me with tears because over all the novels, I had come to know and love all of the various characters. When an author is able to bring his characters to life and leave a lasting memory, I would say that he has done his job. I have hopes that Archer will soon have another novel that I can sink myself into and cry as they do or triumph over adversity. Excellent work!
