Kept me on my toes. Devoured this book in 40 hours. Honestly - great writing, impactful story and definitely a solid thriller. Would recommend!!

Set Your Expectations Correctly. I purchased this book thinking it would be a fictional thriller. At least the first half is all character development with a few “clues” mixed in. I did learn a lot about gentrification which was fascinating and eye-opening but when ending did finally reveal itself it almost felt too over the top to be believable. Good writing and character development but be aware of what you’re buying.

Enjoyed it. I really enjoyed it!!

Pretty decent book!. Honestly I though this book had a great amount of suspense and excitement. However I do think it was a bit messy with the characters so I never really got invested into them. I also thought the ending was rushed but full of action.

Let me tell you!. This book is a must-read! My body was so tense reading through this & I couldn’t wait for the next moment!!!

highly recommend. this book starts slow, and i couldn’t exactly see where it was going or how the pieces would fit together, but all of a sudden so many things were clicking and going on and i fell in love.

Slow and disappointing. I couldn’t wait to read this book because a thriller by a black author why not! While the history and knowing a lot of the story is currently happening in our neighborhoods is accurate and interesting, the story DRAGGED and when I thought the story was get exciting…it went back to being boring. The ending was…ok. It just dragged and dragged and dragged I was so disappointed. I love a good thriller…this ain’t it.

Creepy and sad. I felt like I was reading a Jordan Peele movie. This was well written and opened my eyes to yet another injustice toward POC.

It’s a slow burn, but really compelling. If you’ve read other books by Cole, you know that she can write, but this book really lets her talents shine. The story is definitely designed to unfold deliberately - it’s not a thriller full of jump scares and gotcha moments. But to me, that makes the payoff at the end that much sweeter. And the ending manages to be both really satisfying without glossing over the complex realities that Cole has woven in to the story.

Makes you think. At first I wasn’t sure where the story was going but when the floodgates opened, wow. Glad I read this one.

Lots to think about. I couldn’t put the book down! This is my first Alyssa Cole book I’ve and I enjoyed her writing style. The story gave me a lot to think about and lots to process. A little far fetched in the end, but I appreciated the epilogue. Like I said ..lots to think about.

Worth it if you give it the chance. Seemed slow in the beginning and was waiting for the thrill, but it definitely became a page turner in the last 80 pages or so!

Engaging, twisty - read it in 1 day. This book single-handedly got me out of my reading slump! The pace picks up and stays up for the majority of the book, I loved the psycho thriller aspects and the unexpected romance. The book ultimately shed light on something that is not often spoken about, but that definitely should be. Will be reading much more of Alyssa now!
