Black Ice by Brad Thor Book Summary

INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“[A]nother instant classic.” —The Real Book Spy
“The undisputed master of blending geopolitics with spycraft…a thriller aficionado’s dream.” —The Providence Journal

The new Cold War is about to go hot.

#1 New York Times and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brad Thor is back with his most intense thriller yet.

Scot Harvath is having his best summer ever. With a cottage on the fjord, a boat, and his beautiful girlfriend Sølvi, he’s got everything he could possibly want. But out of vacation days and long overdue back home, America’s top spy has a decision to make—return or submit his resignation.

When his deadly past comes calling, though, he’ll be left with no choice at all.

Leaving his favorite Oslo café, Harvath watches as a ghost climbs out of a taxi—a man he killed years ago, halfway around the world. How is he still alive? And what is he doing in Norway?

In a race against time that will take him high above the Arctic Circle, Harvath is tested in ways he never could’ve imagined and pushed to a limit few human beings could ever endure.

If he succeeds, he’ll walk away with everything. If he fails, the United States and its allies will be at the mercy of one of the world’s most dangerous actors.

Atco1. Great read and as usual excellent character and plot development.

Decent enough. Good story all based on a coincidence, which the characters don’t believe in coincidences. But whatever. Also a lot of fluff that had little or nothing to do with the plot. But whatever. And I felt like the author kind of got lazy and just wanted to finish the book. But whatever. Four stars might be a bit of an exaggeration But whatever I still liked it enough to finish it so kudos.

Black Ice. As usual, Brad Thor is amazing and one of most favorite authors!!

Perfect!. Mr. Thor…..you nailed it!

Pretty good.. Some chapters were just filler. But overall good book.

Black Ice. Like all Brad Thor books you can’t put them down & you’ll lose sleep reading about the adventures & assignments of the Carlton Group & Scot Harvath’s life. Ready for the next book!

Great, more please. I would enjoy more of this cast in the same Scandinavian background

Great read!. Another nail biter thriller that educates the reader along the way. I love how the polar bear is incorporated into the story!

Hold up. I did not read this but Why in the world did this pull up From what i typed.

Good story. A bit far fetched

Black Ice. Parts were interesting but large part was boring and words used to fill pages.

Awesome Arctic setting. Great story as usual, but what made this one fun is the inside view of the gritty, challenging Arctic area of far northern Norway. I loved the helo pilots — very minor characters but I felt like I knew them personally; the scene where they play Sweet Emotion while taking off into an insane storm was just cinematic and perfect. Those pilots were exactly like most real Russian pilots I’ve ever met. Bold, funny, and fearless. Black Ice is just a great book. There was plenty of character tension, a nice side-plot with Scott and his girlfriend, and brutally exciting action (hint: polar bears aren’t cuddly!) Also revealing the inner workings of how dangerous China is geopolitically was both timely and frighteningly true.

Another great one …. Thor is a master and Harvard too great to not thoroughly enjoy, which I have.

Blah!. Not up to the standards set in prior Brad Thor books.

Loved it!. The colorful details in this novel transported me to Norway and beyond. The plot was great and full of suspense. I cannot wait for more Scot Havarth thrillers.

Black Ice.. Well researched. Reading about Norwegian environment and people was excellent. His knowledge of potential Arctic warfare and Russian and Chinese subterfuge was informative. Liked learning about US icebreakers, the lack of, and potential issues it causes was quite interesting.

Couldn’t finish. Surprisingly boring and blah. Bagged it halfway through and moved on.

Another good yarn with an underlying message. There is something reassuring in reading these admittedly formulaic novels. Yes they blindly Reinforce many of our deep seated beliefs and mores. Yet is it so bad that some of us believe in patriotism, decency and commitment to the greater good? Chuck

Went by Too Quickley!. The pacing on this was great, never lagging from over-description of details. Novels should be entertaining, informative, without beating you over the head with personal politics or useless information. Enjoy the maturing of Scott Harvath’s character and changing life view with his “Solvi” relationship, who is of equal strength and intelligence-although I missed her quick quips and witty comebacks about Norwegian girls from the previous novel. I’ve read all the Harvath series novels. It’s time for Harvath’s life to move on in a positive way. Brad Thor always hits his mark with hot topics of the day regarding Russia/Chinese aggression. You can’t help wonder about the U.S.A.’s state of readiness with cancel culture and political correctness dominating so much of our lives. China and Russia don’t have that problem. Overall a Great Read!!!

Not too shabby. A Swell read

Waste of time.. Too predictable.

Great reading. Hard to stop reading this book! Cannot wait for the next novel to come out.

Great Insight. For telling us to prepare for the future … thank you.

Great book. Exciting

Black Ice. Brad, great job coming up with another great scenario, well researched as always. Thank you for #21. I have read all of them twice and about half three times. The Artic took the edge off the current heat wave, here in So. California. Always fascinated by your acknowledgments. I have met a few of them and totally agree, great people. God Bless, John Dockery.

Best Brad Thor book yet!. Best novel yet. Brad’s writing style is getting more complex and plots intertwine very well. The topics are very relevant and he brings in real life occurrences into the books to set the story that is very believable.

Black Ice. Great book! It’s a great thriller/adventure piece.I very much recommend it!

Another Excellent Harvath Adventure. These stories are more relevant than ever as China and Russia seem intent on aggressive power plays. Very well paced and balanced novel. Good characters and storylines that keep the pages turning. Thanks Brad.

Just Ok. The last two books have felt … rushed. The Solvi story happening so soon after the trauma Scot suffered is just too far-fetched, and again, rushed. The countless pages spent on the Mercer/Carlton history was a preamble to nothing. It was actually boring. I’m not sure where the Scot Harvath series is going next, but I am beginning to lose interest.

Black Ice. I have been a Scott Harvath/Brad Thor fan since the Lions of Lucerne. There was not enough character development of Xing Fen but there was too much development of Spencer. While I will purchase Thor’s next book, it will be my last purchase if the author does not pick up the pace.

Excellent book. Once again, Brad keeps you into this novel from start to finish! Great job! Great read!

Amazing as Always. Pure perfection. I can’t wait for more.

The best in a while.. Excellent! The best a a great series! More! More!

Incredible again!!. Like catching and hooking a fish. Brad Thor has you trying to figure out the different twists and they always twist in a way you wouldn’t think. Always a great suspenseful read.

Ok. It could have been a bit more action in it. I also thought that the book was a very quick read. As I was reading it before I knew it I was at the end and to look to see if I missed any pages. Overall I like his character.

Ok, not great. Love the Harvath character, but the stories are getting more predictable. Not a lot of depth to this book.

Consistent. I have been with this series since book 1. I have yet to be disappointed. Brad Thor just like his main character is very good at what he does. I look forward to the next release in this series. Every June I have it on my calendar.

Fabulous!. I just finished Black Ice and like all of the previous novels by Brad Thor, I could not put it down!

Black Ice. This series just gets better and better. I wish the author could produce releases faster. Have always liked the detail in the story lines.

Black Ice. Excellent as always, just wish you could write faster!!

Current political faction! Great read.. Another excellent Harvarth adventure. Very timely too with China and Russia.

Black Ice melted. Tedious and sappy

Black Ice. Fantastic book.

The Prequel. This novel should have been the first book. But it’s not. It does give plenty of background as to why Reacher is who he is. As always, too much description but thank goodness it is written in the First Person. When Lee writes Reacher in the THIRD PERSON it is way worse. On to the next one.

Too much “business”, not enough story.. Bored and couldn’t finish.

Black Ice. Brad Thor. Scot Harvath high above the Arctic Circle is tasked to stop a threat that could seriously leave America and its allies at the mercy of China and Russia. America and Norways defense system severely impacted. Non stop action. A stupendous read!!

Black Ice. Not as riveting as some of Brads other books
