The Lion by Nelson DeMille Book Summary

In this eagerly awaited follow-up to The Lion's Game, John Corey, former NYPD Homicide detective and special agent for the Anti-Terrorist Task Force, is back. And, unfortunately for Corey, so is Asad Khalil, the notorious Libyan terrorist otherwise known as "The Lion." Last we heard from him, Khali had claimed to be defecting to the US only to unleash the most horrific reign of terrorism ever to occur on American soil. While Corey and his partner, FBI agent Kate Mayfield, chased him across the country, Khalil methodically eliminated his victims one by one and then disappeared without a trace.

Now, years later, Khalil has returned to America to make good on his threats and take care of unfinished business. "The Lion" is a killing machine once again loose in America with a mission of revenge, and John Corey will stop at nothing to achieve his own goal -- to find and kill Khahil.

The Lion. The John Corey character is sarcastic and funny. Great page turner.

Roaring beginning, meow by the end. Wow, starts off great, scary but ends with a whimper. What happened to the story? And the ending? Really? Disappointing. I like the writing and thus was surprised by how it all started to fade towards the end.

The best. This his best book yet. I laughed out loud in restaurants reading it. They think I am as crazy as DeMille! Well, hopefully not... Great story. Keep writing....

Great book, page turner full of sarcasm.. I loved this book. It was def a page turner full of surprises and humor. Loved the writing. Should be made into a movie.

Loved it!. Nelson Demille did it again... I wish there was more...

The Lion. Nelson DeMille. John Corey a special agent The Anti Terrorist Task Force and his wife FBI agent Kate Mayfield are locked in a battle of wits with a Libyan terrorist known as the Lion. He almost killed Kate and now Corey and him will have a fight to the death. An excellent read!! Enjoyed immensely!!

Wrong synopsis. The above synopsis is for "The Lion's Game," the book that precedes Nelson DeMille's current release, "The Lion." UPDATED: They finally fixed the synopsis. Now I just have to read it.

Another great DeMille novel. As with all of his John Corey novels, this one does not disappoint. Lots of action and wit, right up until the last page. I can only hope there are more in the future. One word of advice...if you are new to this series, start with Plum Island and then move on to the Lions Gate.

A bit too thrilling. De Mille is so gifted as a novelist that it's a shame to see him succumb to the excesses needed to push his series too far. Two of the appalling horror scenes are early in the book, and I twice decided not to continue reading. Compelled by the strong narrative voice and plausible, forceful first person character, I nevertheless continued, but could finish the novel only by skipping/skimming the ghastly fight scenes. The narrator's humor is much less marked than in the earlier Corey novels, which is a loss, but this novel remains compelling and frighteningly plausible.

Excellent. By far my favorite author. This is a worthy sequel featuring one of my favorite literary characters, Det. John Corey.

My second novel. Excellent storytelling. Got a little slow in the middle, but I was hooked by then.

The Lion. I love Nelson DeMille. He is one of my very favorite authors. He never fails to satisfy and his sense of humor permeates The Lion as it does in his other books. Worth every penny.

One of his best. Love these characters - I hope that John is here to stay as the cynical old-school cop. This story holds you from beginning to end - it's one that is definitely worth reading more than once. Fast paced and highly recommended. Peter Kingma

Non stop.. Best one yet. Couldn’t put it down.

Sad It's Over. In the end, The Lion did not quite stand up to the original. I missed the even plot splits between Corey's activities and Khalil's...a little too much Corey in this one (though you have to love Corey's dialogue). It's just that we really learned about Khali's motivation in the first and here it was pretty much just cat and mouse without the same depth of plot. That said, I still enjoyed it immensely, finished it quickly and am sad that The Lion's story is over.

great!. Love John Corey...quick read...start w lions game...plum island and night fall I think was John Corey too....

Good read!. I believe those who chose to not like the book just did understand the humor. Mr DeMille is a one in a million author. As a 2 TOD in-country Vet, I salute another one of us who made it back and turned the horror into prose, a useful past time giving a taste of what many of us experienced.

So so.... The last part of the book, which should be the best part, flew by seemingly without much depth. The ending felt almost like he just had menough writing and decided to stop. As always tho, quite witty and I do literally laugh out loud at Corey's remarks. Over all tho it was so so but worth the time.

TOTAL SUSPENSE. This book kept me on the edge of my seat from the very first chapter until the final page. The story was interesting with twists and turns and is one of the best books this author has ever written!

Please help. Hey, I want to get the first book, the lion's game, and this app doesn't seem to have it or a few other books I have wanted to get. Just write a review please I'll look at them every few day

The Lion, sleeps tonight. I've many of Mr. Demilles books including all of the John Corey series and this one was very disappointing. While it has a great beginning and ending very little happens during the rest of the story. Stick with his other titles.

The lion. DeMille is so easy to read and can make you laugh with the sarcasm when the story is serious - hope to see another with John Corey soon!

Great read. Corey is a great character, and this one does not disappoint.

The lion. I liked the narrative part of it, though John Corey's character was pretty predictable and cowbowish.

DeMille at His Best!!!. You've gotta love John Corey! I can't wait for the continuation of this series....hopefully John & Kate have a long life of crime fighting ahead! I've laughed out loud at Corey's sense of humor as well as gasped in horror at the depravity of some of the evil carried out by main characters like Kalil! I hope there are many more stories still to be told in this series!

The Lion. Demille has out done himself with John Corey. Great read. Could not put the book down. Hated to have it end. Hope to John Corey again. Liked the interlaced humor on the fringe of catching the bad guy. The character, Tom Walsh, is boorish and needs to go.

Great story!. Love this book and all the other John Corey books! Can't wait for the next one, especially due to the ending on this one!

Eagerly awaiting. I am currently reading the Lion's Game. I couldn't find it on iBook but I found it using the kindle app. When I'm done I'm buying the Lion. The Lion's Game is sick. Khalil is not your typical terrorist. A killer, a terrorist, a person out to avenge his family. Got to go. More to read.

Couldn't put it down!. This was such a great book! I could not put down my iPad all week. Thank you Mr. DeMille for getting me back into reading again...can't wait for your NEXT Det. John Corey thriller!!!

Great read. Another example of why he is my favorite author. A worthy sequel.

Great book. This is a great read. DeMille, in my opinion, has been hit or miss lately. His "Up Country" was just horrible and near plotless and I thought I had lost one of my favorite authors. "The Lion" however is a terrific read and truly a page turner. I totally hated the villain and loved the main character and the main character's cynical yet humorous way of viewing life. This is the first book I fully read on the iPad and it convinced me that paper is not required for me to fully enjoy a book.

Love it!. I opened this book and started reading yesterday. 1 hour later and 130 pages in, I was easily reminded why I LOVE Nelson DeMille! This book is fantastic and I am trying to slow down my reading because I can tell I'll be sad when this one is over. Mr. DeMille, please write another soon!

A True Masterpiece. Twists around every corner amazing book all around a worth while wait cannot wait for the next one.

Pretty good. The ending was a bit trite, but otherwise a good read.

The Lion. Nelson DeMille is a fabulous writer and an exceptional story teller. The Lion's Game was superb. The Lion could have been another superb sequel. But, it's not. Too bad. All the wit and cynicism of the main character, John Corey, is still there, however, the pacing of the plot is haphazard. The suspense builds erratically and the finale is expected (John Corey actually falls for that?! After all he's been through with the Lion?) The ending was so abrupt that I thought I might have missed a chapter. I wanted a more satisfying ending to the several hundred pages of this story which started with The Lion's Game, all the way through The Lion--and a glimpse of the future for John and Kate. Call me a romantic but I think their story deserved a happy ending. Okay, even if it's an edgy-but-happy ending. Nelson, my money is still on you. You missed with The Lion, but you are still a great talent and I will buy your next book.

Lion. Can't wait for the next one!!!

Great. Great book!

Great!!. Great book with lost of twists and turns to keep u guessing at every moment! Been waiting a long time for this book... Keep em coming! Note to readers: this is a SEQUEL!! I strongly advise that u read The Lion's Game first. And on another note: read the other books in the John Correy series first, starting with Plum Island!

The Lion. Classic DeMille....when's the next one coming out? John Corey never gets old and fans will appreciate this latest addition.

Terrible...disappointing. I read "The Lion's Game". That book made me a fan of Mr. Demille in the first place. This sequel however could just have easily made me not want to read another of his books again except that I also read "The Talbot Odessey" and "Nightfall" which were great so I don't understand what happened here. I was so excited when I learned that he had written a sequel but this is nothing more than a drawn out build up to a cockfight. All this "I'm a bad mother so and so" got really dull quick and all that "I'm gonna get that mother so and so" just drove the last nail into the coffin early on. I continued reading the book hoping it would get better but nope,no such luck. Really disappointed and very angry at having wasted my time and money.

Another page turner. Put a blue collar character into a high level geopolitical thriller with equal doses of passive aggressive and aggressive behaviors and you get a Nelson DeMille novel. Thanks for the ride...

Demille stocks. Another great John Corey novel. Never gets old. Enjoy!

Incredible. Loved it. Heart pounding final few pages. Entire series is incredible.

Tense beyond belief. If you bite you nails or your cuticles when you are nervous, be sure to wear your gloves! What more can I say but while I was chewing away, I was laughing out loud with the un-PC-like jokes that come from this talented writer's head.

Classic. DeMille never let's down. A great sequel to Lion's Game.

The Lion. I love everything this man writes! This is a terrific story that I couldn't put down. My first iPad download! Yeah apple!
