Nuts by Alice Clayton Book Summary

The New York Times bestselling author of Wallbanger and Rusty Nailed is back with Nuts, the first in a series set in New York’s beautiful Hudson Valley.

Roxie Callahan is a private chef to some of Hollywood’s wealthiest, and nastiest, calorie-counting wives. After a dairy disaster implodes her carefully crafted career in one fell ploop, she finds herself back home in upstate New York, bailing out her hippie mother and running the family diner.

When gorgeous local farmer Leo Maxwell delivers her a lovely bunch of organic walnuts, Roxie wonders if a summer back home isn’t such a bad idea after all. Leo is heavily involved in the sustainable slow food movement, and he likes to take his time. In all things. Roxie is determined to head back to the west coast as soon as summer ends, but will the pull of lazy fireflies and her very own Almanzo Wilder be enough to keep her home for good?

Salty. Spicy. Sweet. Nuts. Go on, grab a handful.

Altitude changes attitude. Loved this but definitely need more. Need to see what happens to Roxie and Leo along with Natalie and Oscar?!?!? Great book Alice.

Hilarious. Love this book awesome love happening in the most crazy places and circumstances awesome

Loved. Very simply put, I love every Alice Clayton book I have read and Nuts did not disappoint.

Heartwarming Humor. Alice Clayton has the ability to weave humor into the realistic lives of people falling into like, then love. She's able to express the journey people go through as their lives morph from the city into the country. I genuinely enjoyed how this book was able to make me laugh and then sigh. Clayton understands character development as she keeps her characters multidimensional. Her writing is superb! This is a must read, for certain!

Just okay. I didn't connect with the main character or humor in this book, and the sex scenes were just ok. I'm not sure why this is a bestseller except that the organic farmer angle is a great idea, and maybe some clever marketing (eg Goodreads promoted it).

Review: Hudson Valley 1: Nuts. Nuts by Alice Clayton is the first book in her brand new Hudson Valley series. It is an absolutely HILARIOUS sexy romp through diner living and farm to table humping. Did I mean to say humping? Yes, yes I did. Roxie and Leo are a spectacular duo. Roxie doesn't date - she is more of a wham bam kinda girl. She has zero time for feelings. Leo is the sexy hot farmer in her hometown that she has recently moved back to and the can't stop falling over each other. Literally. It seems like Roxie and Leo circle each other - her stating "Only For The Summer!" and Leo being all like, "okay" but when she discovers a secret he has been {hiding} not sharing with her, things change - they get real in a way way Roxie is NOT ready for, and she is about to question everything she had laid out for herself.

Loved this!. I wondered if this would measure up to Alice's "Cocktail" and it certainly does! Great story and characters and I can't wait till "Cream" hits the shelves!

The perfect recipe for a rom-com!. I have a confession: I’m a sucker for a well-written romantic comedy filled with double-entendres and innuendos. Bring on the food-related euphemisms and I am a happy girl. I loved Nuts because it is chock-full of all of that--and so much more. Actually, Nuts has the perfect recipe for an impeccable romantic comedy: Take one Hot Farmer plus one Saucy Heroine, and stir in the following ingredients: • A bunch of awkward encounters • A heavy dose of witty banter • A drizzle of instant attraction • Oodles of sizzling chemistry • A relationship with a short expiration date • Liberal use of adorable pet names • A generous helping of steamy scenes • A hilarious assortment of secondary characters • A small town where everyone knows your name…and your business Throw in a plot twist you don’t see coming, and you have Nuts--slow-cooked and seasoned to perfection, with just the right combination of sweet and spicy. Growing up, Roxie (the saucy heroine) is an endearingly awkward, small-town girl who wants nothing more than to reinvent herself. After high school, she strikes out on her own, finds success as a personal chef in LA, and then loses everything she has worked for in a matter of days. This leads to Roxie driving across the country to Bailey Falls, New York to help run her mother’s diner for the summer. To say she is unhappy about the situation is an understatement…until she meets Leo, that is. He’s a charming (and hot!) local farmer and the town’s Most Eligible Bachelor. From the moment they meet, their attraction is undeniable, and I truly loved Roxie and Leo together. I enjoyed the awkward first meeting, the butterflies of the getting-to-know-you stage, and every single phase after. Their relationship takes time to grow and it feels completely organic. I found myself rooting for them through all of the ups and downs they faced. I also enjoyed the secondary characters immensely. They were hilarious and added more depth of flavor to the story. I found myself laughing out loud several times, especially at Roxie's free-spirited mom. She's a trip, to say the least. In a nutshell, Nuts is fun, flirty, and wickedly witty. It left me with a hankering for a yummy farmer (and cake), and I can’t wait to read the next book, Cream.

Great!. I just absolutely love Alice Clayton books. These books are so feel good, the characters all have a sense of humor and they are not afraid to make fun of themselves. This was a great read! The characters developed slowly as the did the relationships, nothing was hurried. We got to meet an entire town of people who are all connected in someway and they care about each other. Roxie and Leo are scorching hot together. Oh and lets not forget about the laughs :) there are plenty of them throughout the book. It is really nice sometimes to read a book and smile the entire time. This one has a hiccup or two that I won't mention so as not to spoil anything but they are good hiccups that just make the story better. Hmm I wonder if we will be getting a dose of Oscar and Natalie in book, maybe some triple cream :)

Lots of fun and LOL-ing!! (No spoiler review). Great, light-hearted read! Highly recommend if you want to belly-laugh your way through a romance. A nice change of pace from all the angst-ridden romances out there right now. Characters are relatable, the chemistry is HOTT, and the storyline is fun. Fast, easy read.

Slow start but Hot times at the end. As a teenager, our hometowns are often not what they are cracked up to be. Or at least in our minds. As the saying goes, the grass is always greener. Roxie has that opportunity to hop the fence and find out if the grass is truly greener. However, Mistress Fate has other plans that sends Roxie back to her 'dreaded' hometown and smack dab into the handsome crotch of an organic farmer. 'I smiled. "But you still want to lick my honey, don't you?" ' I love Alice Clayton's writing style. Her dialogue is witty. Her characters are layered and flawed. And always, always humorous. So why the 3.5 stars? Well, I battled with how to write this review. If I wrote the review on the last 53% of the novel, it would have been 5 scorching stars. Leo and Roxie - between the dialogue and situations - my Kindle was on overheat or sore from laughing. But a review is on the entire novel. The first 47% would have been 2 boring stars. Ms. Clayton gives you wonderful background and you fall in love with the scenery of the Hudson Valley with her vivid descriptions. But, I felt the storyline was mired a bit in the valley at the start. Like I said, I love Ms Clayton's writing. The words of other authors "You're not going to love everything I write" rings in my ears. So, there you go. If you are a huge fan of her books, this is a read that you may enjoy. If you find the pace slow at the start, wait for it at 53%. If you've never read her book, this may be a good starter. Because for me, it just gets better in the others.

First time. I did not get into this story until half way through but from then I loved it. ❤️

Wow, what a read. This would be hands down one of the best books I have read for a while. The characters were full of life and passion, the depth was amazing, the storyline was witty and very entertaining...can't wait to read the rest of this authors books.

5 funny romantic stars. Nuts is a funny romantic comedy, Alice Clayton will keep you spellbound with her sass, wit, humor and sexiness. Her feisty heroine and her gorgeous, sweet charming hero will will leave you laughing out loud. Roxie is a former small town girl now living in LA. She's a chef to the stars and she is loving her job and life in the city. When her mum calls her asking for help to run the family diner for the summer, it's the last thing she wants to do but she agrees. As soon as her mother is back she is out of there. Back in the diner she's finding her feet and falling...Not once but twice she has collided and fallen with a gorgeous man, a man she could have some summer fun with! “I practically went down on you in public. Now that was risky.” Leo is a farmer, he's smart, SEXY and the town bachelor. He is passionate about his work on the farm and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Leo has captured Roxie’s interest from their first collision over nuts. Her sass is refreshing and he is just as feisty as she is. The attraction and chemistry between the two is instant, no point in beating around the bush when Roxie is only here for the summer. Sparks fly when Roxie and Leo come together, their chemistry is off the charts. “He kissed me hot, my thighs parted...more...And he kissed me wet. And he kissed me...slow. Agonisingly, maddeningly, painfully slow.” Their attraction for one another starts to become something more, scaring Roxie who doesn't do more. Her plan to help her mum out, have a little fun and go back to LA is clouded now that ideas are forming and her eyes have been opened to the town she grew up in. There are quite a few possibilities here for Roxie. Can she take the risk to the changes and possibilities laid out or will she head back to LA like she's planed? This is a fun book with loads of moments that will make you laugh and smile.
