My Not So Perfect Life Book Reviews
My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella Book Summary
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Part love story, part workplace drama, this sharply observed novel is a witty critique of the false judgments we make in a social-media-obsessed world, from the author of The Party Crasher and Love Your Life.
“Sophie Kinsella keeps her finger on the cultural pulse, while leaving me giddy with laughter.”—Jojo Moyes, author of The Giver of Stars and The Last Letter from Your Lover
Everywhere Katie Brenner looks, someone else is living the life she longs for, particularly her boss, Demeter Farlowe. Demeter is brilliant and creative, lives with her perfect family in a posh townhouse, and wears the coolest clothes. Katie’s life, meanwhile, is a daily struggle—from her dismal rental to her oddball flatmates to the tense office politics she’s trying to negotiate. No wonder Katie takes refuge in not-quite-true Instagram posts, especially as she's desperate to make her dad proud.
Then, just as she’s finding her feet—not to mention a possible new romance—the worst happens. Demeter fires Katie. Shattered but determined to stay positive, Katie retreats to her family’s farm in Somerset to help them set up a vacation business. London has never seemed so far away—until Demeter unexpectedly turns up as a guest. Secrets are spilled and relationships rejiggered, and as the stakes for Katie’s future get higher, she must question her own assumptions about what makes for a truly meaningful life.
Sophie Kinsella is celebrated for her vibrant, relatable characters and her great storytelling gifts. Now she returns with all of the wit, warmth, and wisdom that are the hallmarks of her bestsellers to spin this fresh, modern story about presenting the perfect life when the reality is far from the truth.

Love it!. Enjoyable and fun as expected from Sophie Kinsella!
Absolutely Loved It!. Country farm girl, Katie Brenner has dreamt of working in London, for years. So when Cooper Clemmow, a London branding, and strategy company, called to offer Katie an entry level position, she was ecstatic. She decided to reinvent herself. Katie lost her Somerset country accent, straightened her hair, bought a pair of fake eyeglasses and changed her nickname from Katie to Cat. And even though, Cat had to share her flat, sleep in a closet-size bedroom, and work with a rude, evil boss, she was happy; until she was fired. Having no choice but to move back home, Katie volunteered to help her father, and step-mother launch, Ansters Farm Country Retreat, a Glamping business. Katie was just beginning, to enjoy her work, when her ex-boss showed up, with her family, for a vacation. Needless to say, Katie was beside herself. I found Katie’s revenge on her old boss, hysterical. Sophie Kinsella knows how to write hilarious inner dialogue and crazy funny scenes. Katie learned some lessons in this book; 1. People are not always who they appear to be and 2. No one has a perfect life. My Not So Perfect Life is an easy-breezy, well-written, humorous book, with lots of likable characters, and witty dialogue. Be prepared to laugh, a lot. Highly recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this advanced review copy. I loved it!
I Quit. Eh not for me. The main character was very boring and the storyline lost my interest about a third of the way through. Sorry, not for me.
Great book!. If you like romantic comedy's that have slightly more humor than romance this book will work perfectly, overall sweet read would recommend!
Spot On. It perfectly depicts the realities of early adulthood. The internal struggle between true self and growing self, the emotional whirlwind of family dynamics, the hopeful fantasies of romance, all hidden within the our performances on social media.
Not my favorite Kinsella book, but still good!. Kinsella is always on my favorite author list!
Creamy Light Scones of Fun. What fun! I love the sweet imagination of starting a family business in the country while attempting to be a sophisticated woman of the city. In my own life I remember coming back home to the family farm and my parents talk about making it a bed and breakfast while my career has its ups and downs. So much of this fairy tale rings delightfully true. Enjoy.
Funny page eater. It was a very funny story all the way through. The descriptions of the farms, the landscape, all was so brilliantly put in words, I could picture all in my mind. The plot was interesting and more the way the story wraps up. A nice closure.
I. Oo
LOVED this sweet read. Meeting Kat was like meeting myself a few years ago...and I loved her. I enjoyed her throughout the book, her strength and coming into her own. One of Kinsella's best characters.
My not so perfect life. Very disappointed.. the main character became so vindictive and unkind.. I lost interest.
Eh. Least favorite SK book. None of the characters were likable and the plot was very predictable.
Predictable but light and funny!. Enjoyed this book in between heavier books. It’s a nice light read with some humor and love.
My favorite Kinsella book. This is up there with some of my other fav Kinsella books like, “Can You Keep A Secret,” “Undomestic Goddess,” and my previous favorite, “I’ve Got Your Number.” This is witty, surprising yet (somewhat) predictable, and totally charming. The chemistry is felt through the pages and the charm is hard to forget.
Poorly written. I purchased this book because it had excellent reviews. However as someone who reads several books a week, I can say this book was written very poorly.... the plot was boring and predictable. The character development was little to none. The dialogue was confusing and often out of character. The whole thing was very anticlimactic and hard to follow. Don’t waste your time reading this book. :/
It was ok predictable at best. It was alright. The characters were a bit flat and boring. I did not enjoy it at all.
Lovely book!. Just finished reading this book in 2 days and loved it! I've read all of the Sophie Kinsella's books and this was one of my faves. It gets a tad far-fetched in a few places, but that's kind of this author's hallmark, and to me it makes her characters more endearing. Thoroughly enjoyed!
Just so bad. Terribly predictable and uninteresting. Cheesy romance at its worst. The storyline could have been good but instead was cringy and a waste of a book.
Essential. RI'm eetzfrcshfrti frsdcffguibgvexcmdxfcxdo is x s
Loved!!. Absolutely loved this book!
My not so Perfect Life. Predictable and boring. A disappointment from one of my favorite authors
Hilarious. I enjoy every moment I read this book .
Decent writing but I guess not my cup of tea. Wonderful writing, but I personally found it far too difficult to relate or appreciate any of the characters, making this a painful read.
Not your average Kinsella rom com. Romance takes a back seat to career ambition in this stand alone novel. As a young professional I so appreciate Katie Brenner's drive. As a young twenty something girl I aspire to have her self preservation in matters of the heart. This book was a lot of fun to read.
Boring. I tried and failed to get into this book. The main character is incredibly annoying and childlike in her way of dealing with her problems. I eventually abandoned it.
Painful. Tried three times to get past the fifth chapter. Trite. Depressing. Boring. When you can hear the main character whine, it's done for me.

Easy, Fun & Engaging Read. I read a LOT of non-fiction for university, and this book was just what I wanted for a break from textbooks. Funny, cute & easy to read, I sped through it quickly as ever and was sad to see it go ☹️ Not only that, but the book was relatable for a 20-something like myself, and understanding the importance of social media in our lives today was a nice addition
My (not so) Perfect life. I LOVED this book. I read it in one session. It made me laugh out loud and it made me cry. Sophie Kinsella is a gem!
