Betty Lee Crosby's Memory House. True Love and happiness is a life long memory and can last an eternity. It enables you to move forward from any sorrow suffered. This book begins with a young girl named Annie Cross. She works and lives in Philadelphia. Her boyfriend had lived with her for seven years then one day he up and walked out. Annie decides to take a road trip with no destination in mind. She ends up at the Memory House Bed & Breakfast run by Ophelia Browne. Ophelia is ninety years old and can feel happy memories in objects other people treasured at one time. Ophelia has an apothecary shop attached to her home where she makes remedies from the herbs and flowers that she grows in her huge gardens. Ophelia feels the time has come for her to find a someone to take over the Memory House. She needs to find a special person who can feel like her for this responsibility. Annie plans to spend the weekend and ends up spending the week. Will staying help her find what she is searching to make her life fulfilled? Will Annie be the one Ophelia wants to take over her Memory House? Will Annie take back up with her boy friend in Philadelphia when he comes a courting again? This is a beautiful story with beautiful artfully drawn main characters. The supporting characters each bring their own flavor to the story. The author mixes mystery, unexpected twists. romance and humor to draw you into the story and keep you reading to the end. The mystery becomes explainable as the book totters between the past and the present. This story teaches how we need to learn to love and accept ourselves before we can make the changes necessary in order to attain a happy existence and succeed in this life. This is a sweet magical read. Thank you to the author for allowing me to pre read. My opinion is my own.

Memory House. Memory House is a masterful book that the author has laced with the wonderment of memories. It is easy to become lost within the opening pages of this story; and I found myself trying to turn pages at its end because I wasn't ready to face the fact that I had finished the book! Memories are powerful; and can lead a person into varied degrees of emotional reverie. The lead roles belong to two women, as different as they are the same. Ophelia, runs the quaint bed and breakfast at Memory House. Annie, discovers the Memory House on a sabbatical and soon begins retuning to its charm and Ophelia's story's of memories. Their relationship becomes more than either had imagined a chance meeting would ever bring. As with every book I have read by Bette Lee Crosby, I loved reading this one--the ending especially! I will definitely be adding more of her titles to my reading list!

I love Bette's stories!. I have loved every single one of Bette's books and Memory House took me back to some of the settings in those wonderful stories and let me reconnect with the great characters that I have come to love. What an interesting idea, that memories are stored, but sometimes forgotten, and that there is a memory keeper who finds and cares for those memories. 'Good memories attach themselves to an inanimate object and stay there until the right person comes along. When they find a soul that welcomes them, those memories live again.' Ophelia is getting up there in years and is searching for someone to take over the task for her. 'If death comes before she finds a replacement, the memories might be lost forever.' Along comes Annie Cross and she just might be the person for the job. '... she was hoping to forget; little did she know this trip would be the start of remembering.' Bette writes very beautiful and magical stories that are woven together to create a wonderful world that I never want to leave. I know when I sit down to read one of her books that I am going to be transported to a place filled with gentle, caring people; people and places that I haved loved before, as well and meeting new people and discovering new places.

An instant treasure!. In full disclosure, the author sent me a free copy of this book to read and review. This is the third book I have read by Bette Lee Crosby. It is not my usual pick in a book (I prefer young adult science fiction/Dystopian novels), but I do enjoy Ms. Crosby's stories! They are heartwarming, relaxing reads. Memory House kept my attention the whole way through. There were times I couldn't put the book down as the main characters sifted through memories of their treasures. However (yes, there is a "however"), I was not satisfied with the ending of this book. Without giving too much away to those of you who have yet to read this novel, I was left feeling like I wanted to know more. When the two main characters finally tracked down the owner of a particular treasure, I felt like I wanted to know more about his story. I felt like there were things left unsaid, and I didn't feel closure in the story. But, maybe the author will reveal his secrets in another novel. I did like how characters from the author's other books were woven into this story, and I am curious now to read their individual stories. You do not have to know their stories to enjoy this book, but I think it would be a different experience to those who do. All-in-all, this was a pleasant read. If you are a fan of Bette Lee Crosby, you will definitely enjoy this book!! If you have yet to read one of Ms. Crosby's novels, this is a good place to start, and I am sure it will lead you to pick up more of her novels!

Memories of a lifetime. How important are your memories? What if you could touch an item and somehow feel a the memories attached to it? Well Ophelia has this quality but her days are numbered and she hopes to find someone to replace her but it has to be someone special! Ophelia owns the bed and breakfast in Burnsville and Annie has been driving away from Philly to get some time away and low and behold she stumbled upon Ophelia's place and the 2 hit it off immediately. Annie is missing a good bit in her life she has boyfriend who moved out because he didn't want to commit among other issues and her company is being invaded changes are happening so fast that she finds comfort at the bed and breakfast where she can be Annie for Annie not anyone else! This book is amazing I couldn't put it down and I wanted to know more.... I think about all my good memories and some bad ones and it rally makes you think. Bette Cosby is a master storyteller and in this book she brings pieces of her other books into it and if you have read them it's fits together like a puzzle but if you haven't you are not lost. I also loved how her job as an insurance underwriter showcased various stories she put herself in the position of the people before approving or denying there applications. This is a 5* novel that you must read! Keep them coming Bette!!! I love your work!

Crosby's characters are the best!. Fans of Bette Lee Crosby's work will love how this novel ties in elements from most of her others. But you don't need to have read Crosby's other novel to enjoy this story of a vulnerable young woman finding her way in the world, aided by the kindness of an older woman who has a unique gift. It's easy to love these two characters, and I hope they'll appear again in future Crosby stories!

Magic and Memories. You will fall in love with this enchanting story! I absolutely, positively love the premise of this book. That we attach memories to physical objects that are meaningful to us, those memories stay with the object, and especially intuitive people are able to see and feel them. If you come across an interesting piece of jewelery or another unique item, in an antique or thrift store, don't you wonder what stories it could tell? In Memory House, author Bette Lee Crosby uses magical realism to weave a warm tale about the magic of memories, the power of love, finding your own path and the promise of new memories to make. I like to write book reviews to simply share my opinion and some things I would like to know if I were deciding to pick up this book. I am grateful to have been given an Advanced Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. This is my first Bette Lee Crosby novel and I enjoyed it so much. I fell in love with Annie, a young woman looking for solace away from home to deal wiith a traumatic break-up with her boyfriend. She takes a short leave from her unfulfilling job analyzing numbers as an actuary, hops into her car and goes where her intuition leads. She ends up in a small town, in front of a small house with a small sign in the yard advertising rooms for rent. Feeling drawn in, she's met by Orphelia, a slight gray-haired woman approaching her ninetieth year. Orphelia has a large herb garden and an apothecary in the front room of her house where townspeople come for remedies of the body and the heart. She was widowed as a young bride, and has stayed all these years in the house she and her husband made many happy memories in. She feels her Edward with her there. In fact, Orphelia has a gift of feeling memories, from different objects that seem drawn to her. A young boy's ball, a silver locket, an old Bible with generations of a family recorded within, a rusted bicycle. When she holds or touches these objects, she is able to see and feel the emotions of the owners. Orphelia feels bound to be the keeper of these objects and their memories, and has been waiting for the special someone who also possesses her gift to come along and become the new keeper before she turns ninety. She knows it's Annie the moment she sees her. I won't spoil the rest of the story. It will surprise you, make you smile and shed a tear or two. I was taken in from the first paragraph, and could not put it down until the end. It transported me into their world. Crosby has a way of bringing you right in, with her vivid images and scenes. The character development was wonderful and I really bonded with these women. I do hope you decide to read Memory House. I highly recommend it. It certainly won't be the last Bette Lee Crosby book I read. 5 out of 5 stars.

Memories and Making a Change. Rated 3.5 stars. This is the first book in the Memory House series. This book can be read as a standalone but you know the story continues in the next book. I did enjoy this story even if it isn't my usual genre to read. It was a nice change. The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. The author did a good job of giving the two main characters, Ophelia and Annie, real emotions and explaining their backgrounds. Can memories be stored in an object? And what do you do with that information, if anything, once you know it? Or is it better to just leave those memories alone?

Memory House. I thoroughly enjoyed Memory House, as I have every book I've read by Bette Crosby. I hope to read many more and thank Bette very much for inviting me to her VIP group. Donna E

A gem. What a lovely story! Totally different from anything I've ever read..

Memory house is great!. Annie comes to the memory house bed and breakfast and finds friendship with Ophelia and some magical realism where can pull memories from things . Annie wants to learn and does pull good and bad memories but finds a true friend in Ophelia ,and loves to hear all her stories and her love Edward . Annie finds she is happier with Ophelia and comes to stay and finds a new life .it's a great read and can't wait to read rest of series !

A New Favorite. Memory House I was lucky to read an advanced copy of Memory House by Bette Lee Crosby. I have enjoyed reading all of Bette Lee Crosby's books. The Memory House has become a new favorite of mine. It has hit home in a special way for me. I started a new profession in my mid-thirties, taking care of the elderly in the south. I have learned so many life lessons from my clients and had a very special connection with a couple of them. I felt I got as much out of them as they got from me. I learned more about cooking, gardening and the life stories of my clients when they were young. I felt the same love that Anne has for Ophelia. I really enjoyed seeing Ethan Allen again and how he was weaved into the story. For readers that have not yet read Spare Change, Ethan Allen's story, you will not feel confused or left out. I had not yet read another book that was referenced in this storyline and it did not take away from this story at all. It did, however, lead me to read the other book which I am enjoying now. What a wonderful, heartwarming book to read. I really hope this becomes a new series from this author. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a thought provoking and good clean wholesome book.

A Sweet Story. Loved this story, one of things and love be both lost and found. It revolves around two women, one in her 90's and one almost sixty years younger. Their connection to each other and memories from objects from the past bind them together in a most unusual way. The writing allows this reader to move easily through the story and while glad for the ending, I was sorry the story was over! Glad to see that this was the first in a series of novels about the special objects introduced in The Memory House. I will be sure to read others in the series!

Memory House. I was lucky enough to get an advanced reader's copy of this book from the author. I have loved every book that Bette Lee Crosby has written to date. I had a favorite before reading this one, but now have a new favorite. This book was so good it was impossible to put down. If you have read her other books then this one will be even better. It has bits and pieces that you will recognize throughout the story. Ophelia has a Bed and Breakfast that Annie accidentally happens upon while she is driving to get away from her troubles. She stops and decides to stay at Memory House for a few days and falls in love with the place and the owner, Ophelia. Ophelia tells her about some of the things she has that contain memories. Of course Annie is not sure if she really believes this or not, until she touches a bike that is in Ophelia's shed. She herself feels the memory of the boy who owned the bike years before. This has her intrigued and makes her want to clean the bike and find out who the owner is. Ophelia believes that a boy named Allen owned the bike. Annie leaves her old life and moves in with Ophelia to help take care of her. She also works hard to get the bike like it was when Allen rode it. After she gets it as new as possible, which is quite a chore, she discovers who Allen really is and where he lives. She decides to take the bike to him, but when she and Ophelia get to his townhouse it is not who she thought, but is Allen's son. They start seeing each other and become very close. They fall in love and he gives her a big surprise for Christmas. Meeting his parents. Mrs Crosby weaves a story in a way that will stay with you for a long long time. It is a wonderful book from the first page to the last, which you will hate to see end. It definitely leaves you wanting more and don't be surprised if you get it one day. That is the great thing about this author's books, you never know when you will get a new book that contains just what you wanted; knowing more about a book you read before and wondered what happened to a character or characters. This is by far my favorite book by Mrs Crosby and I am hoping there will be more about Annie and Oliver in the future. If you believe in memories and want to read a great book about stories in stories this is the book for you. You can get it now for 99 cents, it goes back to the original price shortly after its release on April 14th. This is my honest review and in no way was affected by it being a gift. I can't imagine anyone reading it and not loving it. Great, wonderful touching story...

Memory house. I love reading but while sitting in a bookshop found iBooks (free download) not thinking I would like a book without paper! once I had started could not put it down. I loved the idea of an old lady with such a rewarding life have never heard of the author, as I don't read many American authors, but will read some of the other titles now to see how I get on. Can now return to the other 3 books I am reading Thank you for the pleasure of reading about friendship From Geraldine

Brilliant Idea. The idea behind the novel is brilliant but it lacks depth. The main characters are two-dimensional and Michael ends up doing two about faces - once when he goes all spurned lover angry and then again when he drops all of the anger out of the blue and slinks away with his tail between his legs. Too fast to be believable. Annie's emotions don't come across as anything genuine you'd feel in those situations and Ophelia doesn't connect with the reader. It's almost as if you're just skimming the book, not getting deep in it and losing yourself. The ending is a lovely idea but ridiculously rushed - the author could have spent another half a book on character development and introducing these new ideas and situations but instead washes her hands of it within a couple of chapters. Full of promise but ultimately disappointing.

Memory House. A well written book. The book was not what I expected, I surprisingly enjoyed reading the book.

Memory house. Loved it, wonderful story

Wanted the whole story!. I very much enjoyed this book (I normally read suspense thrillers!). It was something different. But the reason I only gave four stars is that I was really disappointed when I found I had to read four more books to get the whole story.

Memory House. AMAZING AND COULD NOT PUT DOWN!!

Memory House. Memory House grabbed my attention and didn't let go until I turned the last page. The combination of women's friendships, a mystical "gift" to be discovered and passed on, combining past treasures with present and modern day problems with relationships, and work place issues made this book a winner. Bette Lee Crosby creates characters that you come to love, and some for whom you never wish to meet! That is part of good story telling and character development. I highly recommend Memory House and look forward to reading more in this series. I had the privilege of reading Memory House through ibooks and given the opportunity to given an honest review. Jennifer

Just the first chapters?. This book doesn't end it falls off a cliff. The story stops abruptly so you can go get the next book....not. Much of it is written in a closed caption format. Like your overlooking the story. I did not enjoy this type of writing.
