The Collector by Scott Wittenburg Book Summary

What at first appears to be an online hoax launches retired PI Alan Swansea into an investigation exposing a gang of sex traffickers. After receiving a mysterious email message from a woman making a desperate plea to save her younger sister, Swansea finds himself entrenched in the horrific world of human trafficking. Once it becomes clear that Polina and several other young Eastern European girls have been abducted and forced to take part in a deranged artist’s bizarre project, Swansea is engaged in a harrowing race to find the girls before they are thrust into a situation even more unthinkable than their present one.

Will Polina become yet another victim of modern day sex slavery like the others?

Throughout his investigation, Swansea becomes increasingly aware of the devastating effects sex trafficking has had on the lives of the victims and what little is being done by law enforcement to stop it. As the toll of victims rises, so does his resolve to bring the villains to justice. But as time runs out, Swansea discovers that the trail of his investigation may very
well have gone cold.
Will he be able to save Polina before it’s too late?

The Collector. I just wrote a long review of this, then accidentally hit "cancel" and erased it. I've already put more effort into slogging through this annoyingly amateurish "novel" than it's worth, so I'll just say that it's bad. Ridiculous characters who instill no confidence whatsoever (I kept feeling like I was going to have to take over for the main character because he just had no clue, and really- what intelligent person is unaware of the evils of human trafficking?!); silly dialogue with so much unnecessary b.s.- I kept saying to myself, "So what?! That info is irrelevant and why do I need to read all of the niceties people use to end phone conversations? Not important OR interesting!"; so many ridiculous plot points that made no sense. I'm assuming there was no editor on this book, and there were so many typos I couldn't believe it got published. They go back and forth between calling the main character "Alan" and "Adam", for example. Really? There were too many characters to keep up with anyway, but to make it worse by referring to the MAIN CHARACTER as 2 different named in the very same paragraph? Very irritating to read, and I was so glad when it ended. I'm sure if he keeps working at it, the author will be mediocre but this felt like it was written by a high school student.

Thanks!. Great book. I really loved the story and learned a lot about human trafficking. You really could use a proofreader, though. Let me know if you need a volunteer!

great read. you get reeled in from the first chapter and it holds your attention to the last word!

The collector. It's good writing and I liked the beginning of the book but then it began preaching too much about the slave trade. I don't mind being educated to some degree but this was too much. At the same time it preached the PI became stupid and I lost interest in the plot...so I skipped entire sections to get to the end. That's bad news!

Fascinating. Very good story! There are some typos, but easily over looked as you are drawn deeper into the story. And the topic is one that can't be told or exposed enough. I can't wait to get another from this author.

The Collector. I could not put it down. REALLY! I even took my iPad to work so I could read on my free time. I found a new author in Scott. THANKS!
